Christmas Mad Gab and Choose the Right Cup Singing Time!

Update: This went really well and was super fun for both the senior and junior primary activities. I highly recommend! The senior activity is not my most quiet activity since the children have to sound the words out to hear the titles, but it’s a lot of fun and can still be done in a reverent manner. I mentioned previously that I was debating how to choose the child and song for the Senior Primary Mad Gab game. I decided to just use a jar to pick a name and call a child up. The child then chose from a stack of papers, each with a different song on it. I then let everyone try to figure it out and raise their hands as they guessed the song title. It was fun to see how well the children participated in both the singing, and the activity to pick the next song. I think it really motivated them.

I have a different activity for Senior vs. Junior primary this Sunday, since the Christmas program will be running into Junior primary time, and since Junior primary children aren’t as advanced with their reading skills.

Senior Primary – Mini Mad Gab

This game is loosely based on Mad Gab, where players try to identify the “real” phrase, for example, the Mad Gab example I found on Wikipedia was figuring out that “These if Hill Wore” is really “The Civil War.” (Say the first phrase aloud if you’re confused, and I think it will start to make sense to you.) I have seen some funny commercials about people mishearing the lyrics of songs, too, so it will be great to start this activity by giving an example and explaining that the reason we focus on enunciation is that a line in a song that sounds familiar to us will sound very different to the people listening if we slur the words.

The premise for this game is simple: once children correctly interpret a song title, they sing it.

I am debating on different ways to uncover the songs right now. I might turn over a few at a time and let children raise their hand as they recognize a song. Or, I might let children choose an image to turn over the missing word. Or, I might let each class turn a song over, then confer together to figure out the song title. There are so many fun ways to do this.

Here are the “Mad Gab” versions I came up with for each song (with help from my clever husband, on whom I tested each version). I would love your suggestions if you have any other ideas too – some of these song titles went through four or five different versions.

Away in a Manger (#42)
A weigh inn uh main jeer

Christmas Bells (#54)
Chris muss bails

Have a Very Merry Christmas! (#51)
Half a varied Mary Chris Must

He Sent His Son (#34)
Eave scent hiss sun

The Shepherd’s Carol (Round) (#40)
Thud share pearls care ‘ole

When Joseph Went to Bethlehem (#38)
Window soft wind tuba the hem

Thank you to Primary Singing Time. a “retired” primary chorister who posted the below “Mad Gab” Christmas song titles in 2009. I made up all of the above Children’s Song Book versions but she covered the bases for me (and inspired this Sunday’s Singing Time) with her 2009 hymnal versions, below:

201 – Joint Tooth a Whirled – Joy to the World
202 – Oak Hum Haul Leaf Eighth Full – Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful
203 – Aim Jail Sweet Half Her Dawn Eye – Angels We Have Heard on High
204 – Sigh Lent Knight – Silent Night
204 – One Sinner Oiled Hay Fit Sit Tea – Once in Royal David’s City
206 – A Weigh Yin Hum Age Her – Away in a Manger
207 – Hit Cane a Pawn Thumb Hid Mike Leer – It Came Upon the Midnight Clear
208 – Ho Lit Tall Down Dove Bed Luck Hem – Oh Little Town of Bethlehem
209 – Heart Duh Hair Old Day Gels Seen – Hark! The Harold Angels Sing
210 – Whisk One Drink Caw – With Wondering Awe
211 – Wild Shape Heard Swatch Sheriff Locks – While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks
213 – The Fir Snow Well – The First Noel
214 – Eye Herd Thud Elf Song Crisp Messed Hay – I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day

Junior Primary – Your Favorite Christmas Song

I am expecting to have about 10 minutes in junior primary at the most, since the Sacrament Christmas program will go long so I am going to keep it simple by modifying a game I have done before:

I will have three cups and three different colored pieces of paper, wadded up. One color represents that I pick the Christmas song that we will sing next. One color represents that the child’s teacher will pick the Christmas song that we will sing next. One color will represent that the child will pick the Christmas song that we will sing next. I will call a child up to the front of the room, remind them of what each color represents, then cover each color with a cup. I will then move the cups around very quickly and then ask the child to choose a cup. Then, based on what color he selects, either the child, one of the teachers in that child’s class, or I will choose a Christmas song to sing. That’s it!

Singing Time, Music, and Songs

This is a blog that gives ideas for singing time activities for children ages 3-12 to make learning new songs, and learning about the gospel of Jesus Christ, a fun experience for everyone. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am grateful for the blessings in my life, including this opportunity that I have to work with children.

Greatest 101 questions of all time: 1-20

Where is the safest place to stand outside in a thunderstorm?

Tall, pointy objects standing alone in an open space are more likely to get struck by lightning but it s by no means a certainty. Sometimes the flat ground next to a tall tree can be hit. A car or other enclosed metal structure is the safest place to be in a thunderstorm. Failing that, a ditch, trench or group of shrubs of uniform height is better than nothing. Keep away from boundary areas between dissimilar terrain (water and land; rock and earth; trees and fields). Also keep at least five metres away from metal objects or other people as lightning will often jump from one object to another.

Why do identical twins have different fingerprints?

Although identical twins share the same DNA, they don t look identical cell-for-cell, because not every aspect of your physical appearance is rigidly determined by your genes. Fingerprints are formed semi-randomly as the foetus develops in the womb andare affected by such things as chance fluctuations of hormone levels. Similarly, the pattern of freckles and moles on the skin is caused by random mutations and will vary between identical twins.

Is the human race still getting taller?

Related Articles

The average height, at least in Western society, is increasing because of better childhood nutrition and sexual selection. But the tendency of women to find men taller than six feet (183cm) more attractive can t be extrapolated upward, and people above 6ft 2in (188cm) are much more likely to suffer back problems. Above 6ft 8in (203cm), and the heart strains to pump blood round the body.

Why do I feel cold and shiver when I have a fever?

A fever is when your body increases its internal thermostat, found in the hypothalamus. If you exercise hard or it s a hot day, your body temperature might increase, but the thermostat remains at around 36.8°C. When you feel hot the hypothalamus tries to correct this with sweating and increased blood flow to the skin. But with a fever, it is the thermostat that has risen. This means your body temperature is now below 36.8°C, so you feel cold and shiver, to try and raise your temperature. The higher body temperature may help fight infection by speeding white blood cell production and slowing bacteria reproduction.

What is OK short for?

The most popular theory is that OK comes from oll korrect , a deliberately misspelled writing of all correct . It was popularised in Boston newspapers around the 1840s when it was fashionable to go around spelling things incorrectly for humorous effect. Legend also has it that New York Democrats later adopted the abbreviation to promote their candidate Martin Van Buren the initials OK were derived from his nickname, Old Kinderhook.

Why can t we just fill in the ozone hole with man-made ozone?

The sheer scale of the notorious hole or, more accurately, depleted region in the Earth s ozone layer over the Antarctic beggars belief. At its peak each September, it spans an area bigger than the continental United States, and tens of millions of tonnes of ozone would be needed to fill it up again. Simply creating that amount of ozone, let alone getting it where it s needed, would be astronomically expensive.

Why do fingers and toes wrinkle when left in water?

The waterproof coating on our skin gets rubbed away from areas of our bodies like our hands and feet that are frequently in contact with objects. If you immerse yourself in water with a lower concentration of dissolved salts than that of your cell contents, water will be absorbed by osmosis and cause your skin cells to swell. Since they are anchored to the tissues below, they are forced to corrugate to accommodate this.

A hiccup comes from an involuntary contraction of the diaphragm, producing asudden intake of air. The glottis (the vocal apparatus of the larynx) slams shut at the same time, so that the column of air strikes the closed glottis to produce the characteristic, onomatopoeic noise.

Is there an easy way to prove the Earth is round?

Yes, travel. Because the Earth s surface is curved, you ll notice that different constellations of stars are revealed.

Can you have a fish out of water?

Yes. Several species of fish can breathe air and crawl on land. There are about 50 species of flying fish, too.

Why is sea air good for you?

It isn’t, particularly. In Victorian England, seaside resorts got a reputation for having healthy air maybe in comparison to the era’s city smogs. The seaside’s “bracing” smell is caused by a chemical produced by coastal bacteria, present in very low concentrations. But a study last year found that sea salt can react with chemicals in marine exhaust fumes to worsen the atmospheric pollution in a busy port.

Do plants die of old age?

Given good conditions, some plants can live for ever. It takes a change in external conditions to finish them off. But annuals die soon after seeding.

Does chewing gum really stay inside you for years?

No. Chewing gum is indigestible but it doesn’t have any magic property that allows it to escape the normal digestive transit. Three days is the usual limit.

Where do phobias come from?

Around 10 per cent of the population suffer from phobias. Some may be triggered by a traumatic event while others are linked to physical problems. Studies suggest that simple phobias are partly genetic while others may be due to cultural history. For example, a fear of spiders may be passed down from the Middle Ages when spiders were associated with the plague, as victims’ deserted homes became shrouded in cobwebs.

Do men have cellulite?

Yes. It’s not just women who are cursed with orange peel skin, although in men cellulite tends to be in different places, usually around the neck and abdomen.

Can germs catch germs?

Yes. The germ would be an even smaller organism that attacks its host germ from within.

Why do I get more car sick in the back?

It’s probably because you don’t have such a good view of the horizon. Motion sickness occurs when the balance mechanism in your ear registers movement while your eyes are telling you that you are stationary.

Could we live on water and supplements?

No. As well as vitamins and minerals we need carbohydrates, fats and proteins for energy and cell repair.

Do hot drinks cool you down?

Yes. They make your body think you are hotter than you really are so you sweat more and that leads to heat loss.

What would happen if there were no Moon?

The most immediate effect (other than the lack of moonlight, of course) would be on the Earth s tides. With only the Sun s gravitational influence, the difference between high and low tides would be reduced dramatically – as would tidal drag, which slows the Earth down at a rate adding about 0.002 seconds to the length of a day each century. Long term, the effects would be far more serious. The climate of the Earth is sensitively dependent on the 23.5° tilt of the Earth s axis, and without the stabilising presence of our relatively huge Moon, the gravity of the other planets would produce big changes in this angle – as it does with Mars, whose tilt changes by 60° over a few million years.

Another holiday, another set of Hink Pinks, Hinky Pinkies, and Hinkity Pinkities. Ever since I attended my 1st state conference for Gifted and Talented Education, I have seen, heard and read about Hink Pinks. These vocabulary building, problem solving, critical thinking riddles are staples in GATE. Perhaps my decades long connection with Hink Pinks, et al, is best explained by the fact that my students absolutely love them! They loved them when I was in the classroom and when I became an enrichment resource teacher, my pull-out students literally begged for more of them.

If you are new to the land of Hink Pinks, here’s how they work:

  • Hink Pinks are riddles wherein the clues lead you to a 2 word answer. Each answer word must have just 1 syllable and the 2 answer words must rhyme.
  • Hinky Pinkies are riddles seeking answers with 2 syllables in each word. The 2 words must rhyme.
  • Hinkity Pinkities are rhyming answer words with 3 syllables each.

Some teachers like to distribute these clues on a work sheet, but I continually strive to eliminate worksheets from my teaching. About 20 years ago, I started putting the clues on 1/4 sheet cards. By doing so, I was able to create a resource that was ready to use year after year.

Armed with my Hink Pink, et al cards, I was able to use them as an anchor activity when students were arriving each morning. They also work well as a sponge activity or at a center. When working as a pull-out enrichment specialist, I used these cards as a warm-up activity. Without a doubt, G/T students are enthralled with these riddles. But, I also found that “average” students were intrigued and set their caps to solve them.

First time buyer mortgages

Average time: 2-3 months

The legal side of buying or selling a property can be carried out by either a solicitor or licensed conveyancer , for simplicity we refer to both of these as conveyancer . They will check who owns the property you want to buy, what s included in the sale, and whether there are any clauses in the property s legal title you or your lender need to be aware of. In Scotland your solicitor will also put in your offer to buy the property and negotiate for you.

You ll need to:

  • Get an estimate from them of costs, including any legal fees and VAT
  • Ask your conveyancer to explain anything in your Mortgage Offer you don t understand
  • Ask your conveyancer to confirm any Stamp Duty Land Tax/Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (properties in Scotland) charge payable
  • Tell your conveyancer if you have negotiated for any items such as curtains, carpets or kitchen appliances to be included in the sale
  • Make sure you read any documents your conveyancer sends you very carefully.
  • You and the seller, known as the vendor
  • Seller s estate agent
  • Your conveyancer and the seller s conveyancer
  • Your lender.

You can use the Lloyds Bank Conveyancing Service to compare quotes from our panel of up to 200 conveyancing professionals. You can review the quotes and choose a conveyancer based on what matters to you – the price, the firm’s location or their service rating.

Alternatively, you can appoint your own conveyancer, or your mortgage adviser can help arrange one during your mortgage appointment using the Lloyds Conveyancing Service.

All conveyancers instructed through the Lloyds Bank Conveyancing Service offer a ‘no completion, no legal fee’ guarantee, so you’ll have nothing to pay for the legal work done if the purchase falls through. No legal fee is payable, however if the conveyancer has made payments to third parties on your behalf, such as fees for searches, these will still be payable.

Using the Lloyds Bank Conveyancing Service isn t a requirement of applying for a mortgage with us and inclusion of a firm on our eConveyancing panel does not constitute a recommendation or endorsement of that firm by Lloyds Bank.

How to: Time Machine backup for PC with Windows 10, 8 or 7

Learn how to set up a Time Machine style backup for your computer with Windows 10, 8 or 7. Run and done – full protection with one click.

How-to Summary: How to set up an automatic, complete, fast backup that does not slow down your computer – similar to Apple’s time machine. Software itself available here (it has a 30-day free trial): Zinstall Backup.

In this article, we’ll see how to easily set up a complete backup for your computer. and not just a one time thing – a backup that will automatically and silently update itself all the time, without slowing down your computer .

The “gold standard” of user-friendly, non-intrusive backup systems is Apple’s Time Machine. It’s a “run-and-done ” product: once started, you don’t need to do anything else and are protected immediately and forever. Unfortunately, that is only available for Apple computers.

Luckily, we have found a way to get the Time Machine experience on your Windows PC (Windows 10, Windows 8 or Windows 7). In fact, there are two ways to do it, as seen below.

Traditional PC backup solutions are powerful, but pretty difficult to use for a non-technical person. They require extensive setup and configuration, they ask you to point them where your important stuff is, and worst of all – they slow down your computer quite heavily.

Here is what you want to get in terms of your backup solution:

  • Complete. Your backup must, well, backup your stuff. This means that if you accidentally delete a file, or if your computer stops working, you must have a way to restore everything.
  • Fast. It must not slow down your computer. Too many backup products keep your files safe, but make the computer slow down to a crawl and become unusable.
  • Easy. If you can’t easily make the backup work, it’s not worth much. Your backup must start with a click, and do its job without requiring your attention
  • Restorable. The point of having a backup is to be able to restore your stuff when disaster strikes. This process must be easy, otherwise the backup is again worthless.

Let’s examine the two easiest ways to handle your backup:

Windows File History . Built into Windows already, and will help if you lose a file. However, can’t protect you from real disasters when your computer breaks.

Zinstall Backup . Answers all the requirements above: complete, fast, easy, restorable. Basically just run it, and never look at it again. When disaster strikes, it will restore all of your stuff, including your programs, settings and profiles – not just files!

How to use Windows File History

Windows has a built-in system called File History. It stores multiple old versions of your files, so that if you accidentally erase a file, or delete it, you can restore the original version as if nothing happened.

Here is how to enable it:

  1. Connect an external USB drive to your computer
  2. Click the Start Button to open your Start Menu, and type in the words:
    file history
  3. Click on the “File History” option that shows up
  4. In the menu that opens, click “Turn On”
  5. You can select a different drive using the “Select drive” option

That’s it – you now have File History enabled.

To restore a file you’ve deleted, simply locate the folder it was in, right click on it and select “History”. This will show you the past states of this folders – and your file will be there!

As you can see, the File History approach is relatively easy to set up, and it’s free with your Windows. Its disadvantage is that it does not protect you from a computer crash and does not allow you to restore your files to another computer. So while it’s better than nothing, it’s still not enough. Let’s move on to a better option.

How to use Zinstall Backup – a Time Machine alternative for Windows

Zinstall Backup is an even better approach. It is even easier to set up, it protects all your files and all your programs, it does not slow down your computer, and when your computer breaks (hopefully far in the future!), it will gracefully restore everything you have to a new computer that you get – and that’s the single most important requirement in a backup.

Here is how to set it up:

  1. Download Zinstall Backup (you can get Zinstall Backup here .)
  2. Run it on your computer
  3. That’s it.

It will automatically look for the best place to keep your files safe. If you have a USB drive connected, it will use that. If you have Dropbox or Cloud backup solutions, it will use that. If you have other computers on the network. it will use them. You don’t need to worry about a thing.

Zinstall Backup will then automatically create hourly. weekly and monthly backups of every single file and program on your computer. It’s extremely fast and efficient, so it takes very little extra space. and you won’t feel any slow down .

The best thing about it is the restore. When your computer breaks, and you get a new one, all you need to do is run Zinstall’s Rescue Kit on the new computer. It will restore not just files, but even programs (!) from your backup .

This means that in a short while, you will have the new computer set up exactly like the old one. with your Office, your programs, emails, accounts, passwords, documents, pictures and everything else .

It doesn’t even need to be the same Windows version. Even if your old computer was Windows 7, and your new computer is Windows 10. Zinstall Backup will be recovered to it, no questions asked.

Ready to protect your entire computer without slowing it down? Get Zinstall Backup here .

When disaster strikes: Here is how easy it is to restore your programs and files from Zinstall Backup to a new computer

Back to the Roots: What Is Reverse Factoring? #reverse #factoring,e-procurement,secure,compliant,integration-ready,value-added #services, flexible, visibility, real #time

#

Great question. Though perhaps in coming to an answer, it is important to have a basic understanding of what factoring is.

What Is Factoring?
Factoring is a type of debtor finance and financial transaction whereby a supplier sells its invoices to a third-party (i.e. a factor) at a discount. It is often used by businesses who want to factor their receivable assets to meet their immediate cash flow needs. Importantly, factoring is not the same thing as “invoice discounting”. Factoring is very specifically the actual true sale of receivables, whereas invoice discounting is a loan whereby the accounts receivable (AR) assets are used as collateral.

Reverse Factoring
Accounting Tools offers the following definition: “Reverse factoring is when a finance company, such as a bank, interposes itself between a company and its suppliers, and commits to pay the company s invoices to the suppliers at an accelerated rate in exchange for a discount.”

Reverse factoring (also known as approved payables finance ) works in a slightly different way to traditional factoring. Factoring occurs when a supplier wants to finance his receivables, whereas reverse factoring is a financing solution that is initiated by the buyer in order help finance the supplier’s receivables more easily, and at a lower rate, than what they would normally be offered. Reverse factoring is one of the key initiatives in successful supply chain finance (SCF).

Reverse factoring allows suppliers to receive discounted payments of invoices which are due to be paid by a buyer (i.e. an account payable (AP)). Once the buyer has approved the invoice for payment, the finance is raised separately against the AP by the supplier from a finance provider (usually a bank), who relies on the creditworthiness of the buyer. The buyer will pay the finance provider at the agreed invoice due date, and the supplier receives a much prompter discounted payment from the financer. Since the buyer is often a large company with a very high-quality credit rating, it is their liability that is engaged, which therefore means that the interest that is applied is much lower than what the supplier could have obtained on its own. (See Figure 1 below).

Reverse factoring is similar to factoring in that it involves the same three parties: the ordering party, the supplier, and the factor. Just as with traditional factoring, the purpose is to finance the supplier’s receivables by a factor so that the supplier can cash in the money immediately for what he sold (minus the interest that is deducted by the factor to finance the advance of payment).

Where reverse factoring differs, however, is that it is the ordering party (a company that is a buyer) who initiates the process. as it chooses the invoices that it will allow to be paid earlier by the factor. Because it is the ordering party that starts the process, it is that company’s liability that is engaged, which then enables the deduction on the interest that the supplier would not have been able to attain on his own.

The Benefits Of Reverse Factoring For Suppliers:

  • Suppliers who are struggling with cash flow can be paid much earlier than normal.
  • The interest rate is normally low, since it is based on the credit standing of the paying company rather than the supplier.

The Benefits Of Reverse Factoring For Ordering Parties (Buyers)

  • Close links with its core group of suppliers can be fostered since the suppliers benefit greatly in terms of accelerated cash flow.
  • 100% of the invoice is available for factoring, rather than the discounted amount that is normally available when using traditional factoring methods.
  • The ordering party no longer has to fend off requests from suppliers for early payments, as they are now being paid as soon as possible.

Reverse factoring is the payment solution that creates the win-win scenario that the supply chain craves, and, though still rare today, more and more we will see this method in use as an effective cash flow optimization tool, especially for those companies who outsource a large volume of goods and services.
