What should I do when someone answers my question?

The first thing you should do after reading someone’s answer to your question is vote on the answer, like any other user (with sufficient reputation) does. Vote up answers that are helpful and well-researched, and vote down answers that are not. Other users will also vote on answers to your question.

As the author of the question, you have an additional option: accepting an answer that you believe is the best solution to your problem.

  • Choose one answer that you believe is the best solution to your problem.
  • To mark an answer as accepted, click on the check mark beside the answer to toggle it from greyed out to filled in.
  • You may change which answer is accepted, or simply un-accept the answer, at any time.

Accepting an answer is not mandatory; do not feel compelled to accept the first answer you receive. Wait until you receive an answer that answers your question well.

Please do not add a comment on your question or on an answer to say “Thank you”. Comments are meant for requesting clarification, leaving constructive criticism, or adding relevant but minor additional information – not for socializing. If you want to say “thank you,” vote on or accept that person’s answer, or simply pay it forward by providing a great answer to someone else’s question.

That may depend on what you mean by questions that cannot be answered.

First: on questions for which there is no clear answer, or at least no answer on which a majority of us can agree.

I have asked two such questions on Quora.

Apparently, there is no final answer on which everyone can agree for either question.

The biggest question on Earth. Does God exist. may itself be unanswerable. Or at least it has no definitive answer.
But I think the question is too important not to ask. We will likely never come to a consensus over whether the answer to that question is yes or no. But I think we can agree: the answer, whichever way it may be, is surely significant to all of us.

Such questions should be asked, and I am all for their being asked on Quora. And though today we do not have a definite answer, it may be that tomorrow someone will bring the answer.
I think that the question can and should wait until such time as someone finds the answer.

And. to connect this to the next point. we can all imagine an answer to the question, Does God exist? More: we can all imagine both answers.
Atheists can also imagine the existence of God, just as theists can imagine the nonexistence of God. Without either of us believing in these opposite scenarios, we can nonetheless imagine them

As for questions that are unanswerable:

I can only think of two:

  1. When is Yellow?
  2. Why is Thursday?

To those, I cannot imagine a good answer. I cannot even imagine a stupid answer to those questions. I cannot in fact imagine any answer being possible.

I think to seriously post When is Yellow? as a question on Quora would be a waste of everyone s time.

Are they both correct? Should there be singular or plural that right after “any”? If they are both correct, what’s the difference?

Here, I quote some sentences from the Internet and I wonder if the word “problem” can be changed into “problems” or vise versa.

  • I don’t think there was any question she wore the pants.
  • I can ask you any question. and you will answer?
  • We were never asked any questions .
  • Any questions about what is happening in mine are put aside until dessert is served.

asked May 3 ’11 at 12:42

“Call me with any questions you may have”.

Yeah, it still sounds better in plural. Though thinking about it, even though it is not a question, it works in the ambiguous or uncertain tense that “any” works with. which is generally plural.

“Do you have any cats, hats, tires, fires, mice, etc”

They all run in plural.

However at the beginning of a sentence, in a more certain, assertive, authoritative tense, singularity is fine.

“Any question can be answered. “

“Any child can learn to swim”

“Any wall can be torn down” etc

Honestly, I think I might need more context to give a thorough answer, But I’ll take a stab at it anyway.

If you are referring to a test, and saying:

“I didn’t miss any question(s) on that test”

Then both are correct, because both are true. You didn’t miss a single question, nor did you miss any 2 (or more) questions.

-EDIT- In general, I think it’s safe to say that both are grammatically correct. But depending on whether you are referring to one, or more than one question, would determine which to use.

answered May 3 ’11 at 12:45

as far as I know, “Any” is singular. )

therefore it should be Any question?

“any question?” is just the shortcut of “is there any question?” if you would like to make it plural then just omit the “any” like

are there questions?

answered Dec 1 ’13 at 15:20

First, any dictionary will tell you that any can be singular or plural as a pronoun. Second, Is there any question? means something different from Are there any questions? choster Dec 1 ’13 at 19:56

10 Science Questions You Should Really Know How to Answer

The U.S. government spends about $60 billion a year subsidizing scientific research, and science and engineering graduate programs at U.S. universities are so good that they attract many of the best and brightest students from the rest of the world [source: National Science Foundation ]. Surrounded by technological marvels, from talking ATMs and telecommunications satellites to supermarket tomatoes that are genetically modified to retain their flavor, Americans must be pretty darn smart when it comes to science, huh?

Well, guess again. The unsettling truth is that U.S. adults tend to be embarrassingly ignorant when it comes to basic scientific knowledge. A 2009 Harris Interactive survey found that only 53 percent knew that it took a year for Earth to revolve around the sun, and only 59 percent knew that the earliest humans and dinosaurs did not exist at the same time, the way they did in The Flintstones. And just 47 percent correctly stated — within a 10 percent range of error — that about 70 percent of Earth’s surface is covered by water. Just one in five U.S. adults could answer all three of those questions correctly [source: ScienceDaily ]. A 2011 University of Michigan study found that only 28 percent of American adults had enough scientific knowledge to be able to read The New York Times’ Tuesday Science section and understand it. Admittedly, that’s an improvement from a 1988 study, when only 10 percent of adults could make sense of the Times’ science articles [source: ScienceDaily ].

So obviously, we’ve got quite a way to go to achieve anything resembling universal scientific literacy. But for those of you who feel the desperate urge to change the subject when someone mentions the Higgs boson. massively parallel supercomputing or the escalating debate over whether dinosaurs had feathers, fear not. We’re going to start you off easy, with the answers to 10 really basic science questions that everybody should know how to answer.

How Teens Should Answer “Why Do You Want to Work Here?”

Updated June 24, 2016

Are you prepared to explain why you want to work at a job? One typical question employers ask applicants is: “Why do you want to work here?” They want to know that you understand the job requirements and the company, and that you have a genuine interest in the job.

Tips for Answering Interview Questions

When you are new to preparing for a job interview, and don’t have a lot of work experience, there are a few things to keep in mind.

The first is to do your research. Find out everything you can about the company and position you are applying for. The more familiar you are with the firm and the job requirements, the better prepared you will be to answer questions relating to your interests and abilities.

Next, practice answering interview questions you are likely to be asked with a friend or family member, or even in front of a mirror. The more practice you get, the more relaxed you will be.

When you re a teen job seeker looking for your first few jobs, connect your personal interests to the position to show why you re interested. If you are applying for a job in a restaurant, mention your interest in cooking and preparing menus. Fashionistas applying for retail jobs can talk about their interest in accessories. Applying for a job as a camp counselor? Mention your experience babysitting, and your love of helping children learn new things.

Make sure you dress appropriately for your interview. Clean, neat attire, light on the cologne and accessories. How you present yourself at your interview is important. It shows that you are mature enough to care about the impression you make. Here are more tips for teenagers looking for employment.

Review these sample answers for teenage job seekers for the interview question Why are you interested in working for our company? then personalize your answer to fit your circumstances and the job you re applying for.

Sample Answers

I am interested in working for your company because I am a frequent customer of your store. As a customer, I ve gotten to know your company well and appreciate your products and the environment that you ve created here. It s important for me to work someplace that I admire, and I know that I would be proud to work here.

I would love to work for your company because I have a passion for clothing and design and I plan to study fashion merchandising in college.

I try to keep myself up to date with the latest styles and trends. I feel working for you would enable me to put my passion to good use, and allow me to share it with your customers. I am also looking forward to the real world experience I would get from working in your shop.

The number one reason I am interested in working with your company is because your company works directly with children.

I love spending time with kids and I think they enjoy spending time with me. Working in your afterschool program would be rewarding and a lot of fun!
