The 5 Best Online Business Degree Programs

The best online business degree programs provide a solid foundation in business principles and leadership techniques, preparing you for entry-level management positions at businesses of all kinds. Most programs offer students the chance to specialize in one of several business areas, including accounting, finance, or marketing, which is essential training for a managerial position within a business department. Although many online business degrees are designed specifically for students who have already completed an associate s degree, there are also options for those who want to complete all four years online. Whether you re looking to start a new business career or to advance in your current career, any of the best online business degree programs listed below should deliver the training you need to succeed.

Pennsylvania State University-World Campus is home to a four-year online business degree program designed to provide you with broad business training as well as specialized skills within a narrow area of focus. After completing your core business courses and general education requirements, you can concentrate in accounting, financial services, or management and marketing. Alternatively, you can work with an academic advisor to create a program of study that better matches your specific career goals. This individualized option allows you to combine courses from the three standard focus areas with courses in business logistics, economics, business law, and, in some cases, non-business courses.

If you already hold an associate s degree, Bellevue University offers perhaps the best general-focus business degree online. This is a two-year cohort program, which means you complete most of the courses in the curriculum with the same group of classmates. Working with the same classmates from course to course helps develop effective communication and collaboration skills. For some students, it also enhances the overall online education experience. As this online business degree utilizes a cohort model, you must follow a predefined course curriculum designed to develop a variety of important professional skills in management, finance, logistics, accounting, and other topics.

Pace University offers one of the best online business degree programs for students interested in either business communication or accounting and internal auditing. This online business degree completion program requires you to complete core courses in essential business topics, such as management, accounting, marketing, and business strategy. You ll also take six or seven specialized courses in your area of focus to develop the practical skills you need to land a job after graduation. According to a recent survey of online bachelor s programs by. Pace University is home to the top-rated online bachelor s degree programs in the country.

Regent University offers a very good four-year business degree online, which includes both general business training and specialized courses in one of five focus areas. As a Regent student, you can choose to concentrate your studies in general management, accounting, human resources management, marketing, or hospitality management. Regent University s online business course list is extensive, enabling you to select courses that closely match your interests and career goals. As a Christian university, Regent emphasizes Biblical principles in all of its courses and requires students to complete at least five special courses in Biblical studies to satisfy general education requirements.

Last but certainly not least among the best online business degrees, Westfield State University s degree completion program enables you to focus your studies on the areas of management, marketing, or finance. In addition to these concentrations, all students take courses in general business topics, including finance, business law, international business, and management information systems. Westfield State University ranks among the most affordable online business degree programs in the country. Note that the program is specifically designed for students who have completed an associate s degree at a Massachusetts community college. Associate s degrees from other states are accepted, but, if you have one, it s important to contact an admissions adviser to make sure you meet all prerequisite requirements before settling on the program.

Anchor essays on corporate sponsorships in schools #corporate #sponsorship #in #schools

Anchor essays on corporate sponsorships in schools

Corporate sponsorship of school programs have existed and funded schools for decades. Although advertisement of certain material items is frowned upon, sponsorships are more beneficial due to the fact that they bring money in that schools need and, if chosen properly, can send a good message to our youth.

Sponsorships support a wide variety of sports programs, clubs and extra-curricular activities in our schools. These corporate sponsorships are necessary because without them, many programs might not have the materials necessary to function or might not exist at all. Sports such as football, baseball, basketball, etc. require sufficient funds for supplies and travel arrangements. Especially now in a poor economy, school districts may not be able to support these necessities fully, and without sponsors, schools would not be able to accomodate them. School sport teams and clubs allow students to express their full potential, and without aid from outside agencies, underfunded programs would limit many students from exploring their potential abilities.

Although sponsorships are beneficial and sometimes needed to support schools, some advertisements can project messages to the youth that are inappropriate. Advertisements endorse products for their companies, but can also endorse messages that create insecurity, low self-esteem, and dangerous tendencies within the children and adolescents that view them. Sponsorships for make-up companies frequently show ads that show the imperfections in average women, which greatly affects teenage girls with a sense that they aren’t good enough. Advertisements for technological products may create dependencies on material items, and even sponsorships from movies or other virtual media can endorse dangerous or illicit activities. If schools are not careful about which corporate sponsors they choose, then the wrong message can be relayed to our students.

Luckily, careful screening procedures are used to select corporate sponsorships and with the right choices, advertisements can benefit society while they benefit school programs. Anti-alcohol campaigns show ads that raise awareness about the dangers of drunk driving, which can aid high schools where fledgling drivers often include themselves in drinking and other dangerous activities. Health groups can sponsor progams with advertisements supporting diets and exercise which benefits our society where childhood obesity is on the rise. When chosen carefully, corporate sponsorships can teach valuable life lessons to students while simultaneously providing financial support.

Students need extra-curricular activities for self expression in physical and mental abilities. Even though advertisements can endorse negative messages in our society, carefully selected corporate sponsorships can not only supply school programs with the money they desperately need, but also teach our children lessons that will help them succeed in life.

Last week as I opened my “50 Essays” text book in English class, about twenty pages fell out from the beat up book. I grimaced in horror and quickly looked for another book, only to find that out of the thirteen books surrounding me, all of them were torn and dismembered. If schools had more financial resources, then there would be much more money for necessary text books, sports equipment, dances, etc. Schools should be able to be sponsored by big name companies so that they can provide the basics to their students as long as the company is moral.

In this day and age, many schools can not give students what they need. Schools that are sponsored by big name companies have more financial means for their students. For example, instead of having no sports teams due to lack of equipment, if a company such as Adidas sponsored the school, the school could get sports equipment, uniforms, and even a coach for their team if they simply advertised for the company by putting up posters. Is this wrong? Is advertising for a company so that one can give their students what they need shameful? No. Providing for the students is what a school is supposed to do.

In many cases a school does not accept the sponsorship of a corporate company because they feel like they are accepting bribes. Schools also do not want to limit the freedom of their students and make them feel as if they are following what the corporate leaders say. To this, one could simply make a contract with the company so that it is put into place that the student’s wants and needs come before the corporations. To avoid “selling out” the schools could advertise within reason and accept sponsorship from more than one brand.

Ads placed along school grounds can be very distracting to the students, or they can be seen as beneficiary means to help the school. Not all ads are bad, in fact, if the ad puts an emphasis on education it can be seen as helpful for the student. Schools could keep the right to veto and get rid of an ad if it creates a distraction to the students. Ultimately, if the ads do not distract the students or provoke them in some way there is nothing wrong with that. If an advertisement helps the student, what is wrong with it?

Schools all over America are having budget problems. If a company stands for good morals then they should be able to help schools. Getting sponsorship from outside resources could provide new textbooks and other necessities for schools that need the help. Is it “selling out” to provide for the future generations?

        What is Psychology: The Study of The Human Mind #top #psychology #degrees, #psychology #schools, #psychology #degree #search, #areas #in #psychology,psychology #careers, #what #is #psychology, #psychology #fields, #structualism

Why are children stubborn? Why do some people become addicted to alcohol or gambling? How do you help an abused child? All of these are difficult and challenging questions that the many psychology schools of thought are trying to answer.

So, then what is psychology? There are many misconceptions created by television and movies today, but the basic answer is that psychology is both an applied and academic science that studies the human mind and behavior. No matter what area of psychology you refer to, research in psychology seeks to understand and explain thought, emotion, and behavior. Psychology is applied to individuals via mental health treatment, performance enhancement, self-help, ergonomics, and many other areas affecting health and daily life.

Psychology Schools of Thought and History

While people have always been fascinated by human behavior, it wasn’t until the late 19th century that psychology began to be considered an actual science. Wilhelm Wundt established the first psychology lab in Germany. He believed in an area of psychology called structuralism—believing that certain structures in the mind caused behavior. Over the course of psychology’s history, different schools of thought have competed for prominence. Here are the major psychology schools of thought:

Structuralism. This area in pyschology holds the belief that there is a connection between sensation and emotion and behavior.

Functionalism. This area in psychology suggests the idea that the human brain is much like a computer, designed to carry out specific functions.

Psychoanalysis. This psychology school of thought was created by Sigmund Freud, and believes in the rigorous probing of an individual s personal problems, motives, goals and attitudes as a way to heal the mind.

Behaviorism. Proponents of this area of psychology essentially hold that all human behavior is learned from one s surrounding context and environment.

Humanism. This much more recent psychology school of thought came as a reaction to behaviorism and Psychoanalysis, and emphasizes the importance of values, intentions, and meaning in the individual. The concept of the self is a central focus for most humanistic psychologists.

Cognitivism. This area in psychology believes that psychology should be concerned with a person s internal representations of the world and with the internal or functional organization of the mind.

As psychology moved away from its philosophical roots, psychologists began to employ more and more scientific methods to study human behavior; this opened up many more psychology careers. Today, researchers employ a variety of scientific methods, including experiments, correlational studies, longitudinal studies, and others to test, explain, and predict behavior.

        Areas of Psychology

Students of psychology soon realize that the subject covers a huge range of material, and may never provide a definitive answer to the question, What is psychology? The diverse topics students might study as they explore the various areas in psychology include social behavior, personality, research methods, therapeutic techniques, and much more. Because it’s such a broad and diverse field, a number of different subfields and specialty areas have emerged. The following are some of the major areas of research and application within psychology, and provide some of the many rewarding and satisfying psychology careers:

Abnormal Psychology is the study of abnormal behavior. This specialty area of psychology is focused on research and treatment of a variety of mental disorders and is linked to psychotherapy and clinical psychology.

Biological Psychology studies how biological processes influence the mind and behavior. This area of psychology is closely linked to neuroscience and utilizes tools such as MRI and PET scans to look at brain injury or brain abnormalities.

Clinical Psychology is focused on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental disorders.

Cognitive Psychology is the study of human thought processes and cognitions. Cognitive psychologists study topics such as attention, memory, perception, decision-making, problem solving, and language acquisition.

Comparative Psychology is the branch of psychology concerned with the study of animal behavior.

Developmental Psychology is the area of psychology that looks at human growth and development over the lifespan.

Forensic Psychology is an applied field focused on using psychological research and principles in the legal and criminal justice system.

Industrial-Organizational Psychology is the area of psychology that uses psychological research to enhance work performance, select employee, improve product design, and enhance usability.

Personality Psychology looks at the various elements that make up individual personalities.

School Psychology is the area of psychology that works within the educational system to help children with emotional, social, and academic issues.

Social Psychology is a psychology school of thought that uses scientific methods to study social influence, social perception, and social interaction. Social psychology studies diverse subjects including group behavior, social perception, leadership, nonverbal behavior, conformity, aggression, and prejudice.

Today, psychologists prefer to use more objective scientific methods to understand, explain, and predict human behavior. Psychological studies are highly structured, beginning with a hypothesis that is then empirically tested. Academic psychologists focus on the study of different sub-topics within psychology including personality psychology, social psychology, and developmental psychology. These psychologists conduct basic research that seeks to expand our theoretical knowledge, while other researchers conduct applied research that seeks to solve everyday problems. Applied psychology focuses on the use of different psychological principles to solve real world problems. Examples of applied areas of psychology include forensic psychology, ergonomics, and industrial-organizational psychology. Many other psychologists work as therapists, helping people overcome mental, behavioral, and emotional disorders.

Psychology is a broad and diverse field with a variety of related professions. If you are considering a career in psychology, you are pursuing one of the most important and basic of the human sciences. You can expect to have a long, satisfying, and fascinating career if psychology is your field.

accelerated bsn program with few pre-reqs required, and no previous bsn

I wanted to know if anyone happens to know of an accelerated bsn program that does not require a previous bsn degree, and does not have a wait list. I know I am asking for alot, however I know there has to be one out there . I am willing to move anywhere. I have been calling state to state and am still not having much luck . I have completed Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Nutrition, and Lifespan Development. I also scored an 80% on my TEAS exam. The schools I have come across either require a previous bsn or more pre-reqs like public speaking or Statistics. I know I might just need to bite the bullet and take those classes, however I feel there has got to be a private or public school out there that will accept me for what I have. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you all.

I’m not really sure what you’re looking for. None of the accelerated BSN programs I’ve seen require a previous BSN. who would get two BSN’s?

Any of the Accelerated BSN programs I’ve seen, do require a bachelors degree in something. That’s how they make it accelerated, you only do your nursing courses since you have the rest of the requirements for a bachelors degree finished.

If you don’t already have a bachelors degree, you’re going to need to do non-nursing coursework (as was mentioned by the previous poster) in order to meet your state’s definition of a bachelors degree.

Maybe if you could clarify what exactly you’re looking for (ie do you have your RN, and are looking for a RN-BSN? or do you have a bachelors degree in something else and you’re looking to get your RN?).

There are no 2nd Degree Accelerated BSN programs that do not require a previous BS/BA. There are some without a waiting list, b/c I am in one that did not have a waiting list, but none that don’t require a previous Bachelor’s degree (which is what I assume you mean when you say BSN , which is actually the degree you’d be working towards if you were accepted into one of these programs).

Thanks for all your insight. I do not have my RN or a Batchelors Degree. I have completed 65 credits of general ed as well as most pre-reqs required for Nursing beside Statistics and Public Speaking. So I am basically trying to find a program that has an: accelerated bsn program, that only requires about 60 credits of all general ed, and science pre-reqs like Anatomy, Chemistry, Physiology, Microbiology, Nutrition, and Lifespan Development. I know they exsist, because I came across one once. but I forgot the name . I think I am just going to keep researching state to state. hopefully I will find something .

I think most of them require stats and public speaking. We’re using stats now in my research class. I’m in an LPN/BSN bridge.

If you are strongly thinking about that school, you need to make a decision soon. I think I saw that their Fall semester deadline is in January.

        Advanced Practice Registered Nurse

What Does an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Do?

The term Advanced Practice Registered Nurse is a general title granted to those registered nurses that have completed advanced educational and clinical requirements, usually a master s degree at the least. Advanced Practice Registered Nurses can be employed in a wide variety of positions and locations, from hospitals to community clinics and private practices. Under the APRN umbrella are Nurse Practitioners that are able to act independently of physicians, Certified Nurse Midwives that provide midwifery skills for pregnant women and newborns, Clinical Nurse Specialists who are experts in diagnosing and treating illnesses, and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists who are specialized in administering anesthesia. Each of these four professions can also have specialized subsets or concentrations, like pediatrics, geriatrics, neonatal and more. These professionals generally possess a wider knowledge of patient assessment and planning, implementation, diagnosis and evaluation of patient care. Their roles and responsibilities are varied, but all draw from the advanced level of education they earn.

How Can I Become an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse?

Earning the distinction of Advanced Practice Registered Nurse requires students to earn an advanced education above the required amount to become a registered nurse. This means that after earning a registered nursing degree at nursing school, APRNs must also earn at least a Master s Degree as well. Currently, there is a movement in the health care industry that will require APRNs to earn a Doctorate in Nursing Practice beginning in 2015. This additional education is believed to meet the ever changing medical need of patients, as well as changes in the health care industry. A doctorate education can take a student up to seven years to complete, so it should not be entered into lightly. On top of the education requirement, some specialties, like Nurse Practitioners, must also take a state mandated board exam to become licensed and certified.

What Is the Career and Salary Outlook for an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse?

Today there are over 200,000 Advanced Practice Registered Nurses employed in the health care industry in the United States. The average salary is around $78,000 per year. The average salary for Nurse Practitioners is $89,634 per year. As you can see from those numbers, the more specialized the education and expertise of an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, the larger salary they can earn. Government economists believe that despite the current recession, the outlook for registered nurses, especially APRNs, is very positive. They believe that the profession should continue to grow very quickly in rural and inner-city areas through 2018. Because the required amount of education will be raised in 2015 and the nation is facing a nursing shortage, job prospects are high for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. The demand is high because these professionals provide a very high level of care, yet do not cost as much as a physician to employ.

        Best Journalism Schools at U #journalism #schools #in #the #us

A faculty colleague in another field recently asked me what journalism schools I would most recommend for her college-bound son, who is apparently an aspiring newshound. Below is a listing of the ones I offered her in response AKA what I consider to be the best college and university journalism schools nationwide AKA places I would strongly consider enrolling if I woke up tomorrow back in high school.

The list is NOT meant to be all-inclusive or objective. It is based on nothing more than my personal knowledge of various schools and colleges reputations, faculty, affiliated student media, classes, and feedback I ve received in spurts from students and (mostly younger) alums.

It is strongly biased in favor of schools that are exciting me in the digital journalism realm and that are in some way aligned with quality campus media or professional publishing opportunities. It is biased against journalism programs and departments (only schools included here) and certain schools I simply do not know enough about (although in some respects the fact that they have not crossed my daily college media blogging radar is a sign).

In alphabetical order, here are what I consider to be the best j-schools in the country:

My mother attended U of Missouri, in her day the best journalism school, but I chose OU and not only became a journalist, I went on to own a PR firm in Denver with national clients because of my writing skills. Glad to see them both on your list today.

Ohio State has a very strong Journalism program. Early introduction into both the print and digital side of journalism. Also with a very good student paper, The Lantern, that is easy to get a job with and the people running it are incredibly nice. Also with one of the biggest schools in America, there is always something going on to report on.

What about masters programs? Us News doesn t rank them.

Read again. This is for undergrad. CU does not have an undergrad J school.

Remember, the above article states that this is only the writers personal opinion. Obviously, the actual rankings based on all of the criteria that makes a top journalism university was not read or acknowledged by the writer. The University of Missouri was the first journalism school in the country and has a record of producing some of the country s best journalism professionals; therefore has been ranked in the top 2, not where it is ranked by this writer. Pay no attention, it s just media misrepresented 🙂

Kelly Jane- Your comment made me giggle. ) Scroll through the list again. Notice anything? The schools are listed in alphabetical order! Mizzou isn t ranked here, simply included, as it should be. Dan

I m debating between Kent State and Depaul, what do you guys say?

University of Nebraska-Lincoln s J-School gets forgotten on most lists, but has been recognized at national conferences as one of the best schools in the nation. I m slightly biased, but the awards are there to back me up.

I spent three years studying health care classes before I got an internship and realized I strongly disliked it. I made a bold choice to change my degree even though I had already completed three years of college. I LOVE public speaking so I enrolled in Walter Cronkite Mass Comm. and Journalism at Arizona State University. The school is indeed amazing, but I m kind of frustrated. There are so many requirements that it will take me three more years just to obtain a bachelors. I don t mind most of the requirements because I enjoy school a lot. However, I m supposed to take at minimum 2 years worth of Spanish classes (4 semesters total) but I do not plan on using Spanish after college and don t necessarily have a passion for it. I m considering transferring because I feel like I m wasting my time and money on something I won t use after graduation. Suggestions? Ideas? Anything will help. THANK YOU!

I had to take 4 semesters of a foreign language at Marshall University and that was 13 years ago. I think it would be tough to find a J-school that doesn t require it in this day and age. I took mine entirely in summer school to get done faster.

Really? Darn. Thank you for helping! Did anyone go to a J-school that didn t require so much foreign language? I don t mean to sound apathetic; I just know the likelihood of me using Spanish after school is small so I m annoyed with wasting time and money. Thanks guys!!

CRNA Schools… Where Will You Apply?

With so many CRNA schools to choose from, how do you know which school is best for you?

        • Picking the best school involves more than just selecting the school closest to home.
        • It involves weighing all of the factors and picking the CRNA program best suited to your specific priorities.
        • These are just some of the benefits you’ll discover in my Step by Step CRNA School Guide.

        Schools by Cost

When the price tag for a degree ranges from $20,000 to $200,000, it pays to do your research. Thankfully, we’ve done the tedious math for you. (You’re welcome!)

        Schools by Rank

For the first time ever, find school ranks based on ACTUAL DATA (NOT opinion surveys). Schools evaluated by first time pass rate, attrition rate, and clinical experience. You’ll be shocked to see how the programs compare!

        Unique CRNA Programs

If you’re looking for programs that stand out against the rest, you’re looking in the right place. Less competitive? Doesn’t require that one class you haven’t taken? You’ll want to read this.

How do we keep it all updated?

Our team manually goes through each school website looking for changes; each school is reviewed twice per year. We also have established relationships with many of the program directors and are notified directly and immediately when they update their websites. Beyond this, we are often notified by students who attend programs when changes are made to the programs.

This is the most complete, helpful and accurate guide to CRNA schools on the internet.

Nowhere else on the internet will you find such a complete description of all the nurse anesthetist programs in one place – I know, because I’ve looked!

        Which Schools Offer Certified Nursing Assistant Programs Online? #online #nursing #assistant #programs, #which #schools #offer #certified #nursing #assistant #programs #online?

Which Schools Offer Certified Nursing Assistant Programs Online?

Certified nursing assistants (CNAs) work under the supervision of registered nurses and help medical patients perform such daily living activities as dressing, eating and bathing. Certified nursing assistant programs include a classroom component and clinical experience, and there are no programs offered entirely online. This article highlights types of schools that offer CNA programs. Schools offering Nursing degrees can also be found in these popular choices.

        CNA Program Overview

While there are no CNA programs offered entirely through online study, a few schools offer some recorded lectures online or through distance learning for students who miss class. In rare cases, a school may offer a portion of its CNA program online. Online study isn’t possible because students must complete hands-on clinical experience to be eligible to take the certification exam.

CNA programs may award certificates or diplomas upon completion. Most require just a few weeks to complete. The curriculum generally includes courses in medical terminology, basic nursing skills, personal care skills and patient rights. Students practice their skills through supervised clinical experience in real healthcare facilities. All states require that graduates must pass a competency exam.

Important Facts About Online Certified Nursing Assistant Programs

Certified nursing assistant (CNA), certified nurse aide, nursing assistant, resident assistant, caregiver

Basic nursing skills, personal care skills, mental health and social service need, care of cognitively impaired residents, basic restoration services, resident’s rights

Communication, compassion, patience, and physical stamina

Hospitals, nursing care facilities, government, assisted living, continuing care retirement communities, and home healthcare services

        Schools that Offer CNA Programs

Prospective students can find CNA programs in various types of schools. Many community colleges and vocational schools across the U.S. offer these programs. Though most programs award no degree, they do prepare students for the certification exam in their state of study and practice. The following are a list of on-campus certified nursing assistant programs.

        Community College CNA Programs

CNA programs at community colleges include complete classroom, lab and clinical coursework. Students learn valuable communication and interpersonal skills, along with emergency procedures and evaluation of vital signs. The length of each program varies in accordance with state requirements, but can take between six to 12 weeks to complete. Here are some community colleges that offer CNA programs:

        • Community College of Rhode Island in Warwick, RI
        • Macomb Community College in Warren, MI
        • Mesa Community College in Mesa, AZ
        • San Diego Community College in San Diego, CA

        CNA Programs at Vocational Colleges

Vocational colleges, also known as technical schools, are another place to look for a CNA program. As with community colleges, vocational colleges prepare aspiring CNAs for the certification exam through coursework and clinical study. Topics covered in a typical program include patient rights and fundamental nursing skills. CNA programs can be found at these and other vocational schools across the country:

        • Renton Technical College in Renton, WA
        • Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, WI
        • Okefenokee Technical College in Waycross, GA

Differences Between Interior Design and Interior Decorating #oregon #interior #design #schools

        Interior Design vs Interior Decorating

So you ve decided to make a few changes at home, and you realize that you re going to need a bit of help. You begin looking for possible services and find that some list their work as interior design while others are interior decorators. Suddenly you re faced with new questions, namely, What s the difference? And more importantly, Which one do I need?

Interior design and interior decorating are often mistaken for being the same thing, but the terms are not completely interchangeable.

There are many similarities between the two jobs. So many, in fact, that opinions vary on exactly where to draw the distinction. Yet there are more than a few differences between what makes an interior designer and an interior decorator – some subtle, some significant. So with nearly as many opinions on the subject as there are people to express or hear them, here is a brief comparison of the two that can help you make the distinction for yourself and decide which one you really need to help in your home.

        What is Interior Design

Schooling – Interior design is a profession that requires specific schooling and formal training. The work involved usually includes studying color and fabric, computer-aided design (CAD) training, drawing, space planning, furniture design, architecture and more. Upon graduating designers often apprentice with a registered and established interior designer before moving on to create their own companies.

Credentials – In some states and provinces professionals are required to pass an exam and become registered with a governing council (which one will depend on what country and state/province he or she is in) before they can be called designers. However, there are just as many where this is not the case.

So it s a good idea to find out what the situation is in your area before starting your search.

What They Do – Designers are comfortable with spatial planning and can help design and renovate interiors, right from drawing up the initial floor plans to placing the last decorative accent. They don t just enhance the look, they enhance the function of a room.

Who They Work With – Interior designers often work closely with architects and contractors to help achieve the look the client desires, whether that client is designing a residential home, an office, a hotel, or any other interior space.

Schooling – Interior decorators don t need to have formal training or schooling because decorators focus primarily on aesthetics. Decorators don t generally take part in renovations or structural planning. They come in after that part is complete and focus on the surface look of the space.

Credentials – Even though no schooling is required to become an interior decorator there are many programs and courses available. These courses often focus on color and fabric, room layouts, space planning, furniture styles and more.

What They Do – Decorators are great for coming into a room and whipping it into shape.

They can help clients decide on a style, choose a color scheme. purchase furniture, and accessorize. They re often brought in to spruce up an existing space that needs to be updated or redone.

Who They Work With – Decorators don t generally work with any contractors or architects since often any structural work is complete before they come on board. They do however work with furniture makers, upholsterers, and other industry professionals.

Should I Hire a Designer or a Decorator

Who you should hire will depend on your needs. If structural changes are desired (such as removing a wall. moving plumbing around, or adding new windows or doors) then generally an interior designer would be the better choice. They can help plan for significant structural changes and help make them happen. On the other hand, if there are no structural changes needed but you need help deciding on a style; choosing wallpaper, paint, and furnishings; picking window treatments, and choosing lighting and accessories, a decorator will probably do the trick.

They know what works together and can transform a room to suit the clients needs and desires, without doing any technical work.

In the end, however, making the right decision for your home will likely be more a matter of what you re hiring someone to do than a question of job titles. The majority of formally schooled designers spend most of their time doing work that would be described here as decorating because it includes no renovation or structural work. At the same time, there are any number of decorating professionals with no formal schooling who are capable of working with contractors to perform whatever structural work may be required in a home while providing the same high level of aesthetic detail that a formally trained designer would. Given that, the best thing to do when faced with this choice would be to assess your needs and compare them against the services being offered before making a decision.

        What is Medical Assisting?

A medical assistant in responsible for the daily care and treatment of patients, including intake, cleaning, and the delivery of medication all under the supervision of a physician or other qualified medical professional and are responsible for the daily treatment and review of patients, notifying supervisors when changes in the patients status occur. Medical assistants are also responsible for the day to day management of paperwork; supplies and other office work that may otherwise be attributed to a medical office assistant. Medical assisting is a fast growing field that requires the individual to be familiar with medical vocabulary, clinical and hospital environments and standard protocols in order to be effective.

        Educational Requirements

Medical assistant programs provide the knowledge necessary to operate and finish duties within a medical environment such as a clinic or a hospital. Medical assistant programs will offer an associate’s degree or certificate depending on the program and typically take between one to two years to complete based on the type of program one is enrolled in. The primary difference between the two is that a certification program offers only classes that are directly related to medical assistance whereas an associate’s degree will also have general education courses necessary to earn a degree and the credits earned from which may also be used when pursuing higher level education.

An education in medical assisting may be obtained through private career colleges, specialized schools or community and junior colleges. Such schools typically provide the program and curriculum necessary to successfully enter the field of medical assistance. Students interested in entering the field may find that community and junior colleges generally have lower cost educations versus the accelerated curriculum of a private career college or specialized school.

Courses one may encounter in a medical assistant program include:

        • Medical Terminology
        • Human Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology
        • First Aid
        • Medical Laws and Ethics
        • Pharmacology

        Employment Information and Specializations

Though medical assistants do not need a postsecondary education to find work, it has become increasingly difficult to do so. Potential employers are quickly turning toward trained professionals to bring into the work place and it is prudent to consider at least a certificate program if one plans to enter the field. Medical assistants will help organize, file, and diagnose patients, if one is licensed to do so, among other tasks. Medical assistants working in a clinical setting may be required to obtain a license depending on state law.

Medical assistants primarily work in clinics and hospitals, though they may be found in smaller practices to assist physicians. The work done by a medical assistant assists in the day to day care of patients as well as administrative tasks as determined by the employer. Medical assistant will work under the supervision of nurses and physicians, as well as medical administrators.

Medical assistants may also pursue specializations, particularly in larger hospitals that require specific skills sets for specific areas of medicine. Such medical assistants may experience an increase in pay and responsibilities as specialization requires the development of new skills and additional knowledge. Clinical, podiatric, and administrative specializations are just some of the many fields a medical assistant may enter. Individuals pursuing long term careers will most likely cover several specializations, as well as expanding their overall skill set in order to provide as many services as possible for their patients and employers.

Job Growth, Salary and Related Fields

Work for medical assistants is expected to grow rapidly over the coming years as a large portion of the population grows older. Demand for medical care will increase, as will the need for medical assistants. The overall demand over the next decade is expected to increase 31%. The increase in the number of health center, hospitals, care facilities, clinics and other service providers will create a number of new positions resulting in more opportunities to go along with opening in previously existing positions due to retirement or turnover.

The average salary for a medical assists is approximately $28,000 per year, with a low of $23,000 per year. Individuals with experience tend to make more, as do those with specializations or degrees. Education often is a determining factor in starting pay, with degree or certificate holders typically earning more than those without.

UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) #internet #safety #in #schools

UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS)

New technologies inspire children to be creative, communicate and learn. However, while the internet is a great resource, it is important that children and young people are protected from the risks they may encounter. The UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) is a group of more than 200 organisations drawn from across government, industry, law, academia and charity sectors that work in partnership to help keep children safe online. The Council was established in 2010 following a review by Professor Tanya Byron discussing, and taking action, on topical issues concerning children’s use of the internet.

        UKCCIS latest news:

The UKCCIS Education Group has developed guidance for school governors to help governing boards support their school leaders to keep children safe online. Governors can use it to: gain a basic understanding of the school’s current approach to keeping children safe online; learn how to improve this approach where appropriate; and find out about tools which can be used to improve the approach. The document includes examples of good and outstanding practice, as well as identifying when governors should be concerned. This guidance is non-statutory and should be read alongside the Department for Education’s Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance.

The UKCCIS Education Group has produced advice for schools and colleges on responding to incidents of ‘sexting.’ The advice aims to support them in tackling the range of issues which these incidents present including responding to disclosures, handling devices and imagery, risk assessing situations and involving other agencies. The advice also contains information about preventative education, working with parents and reporting imagery to providers. This advice is non-statutory and should be read alongside the Department for Education’s Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance and non-statutory Searching, Screening and Confiscation advice for schools.

        UKCCIS achievements include:

        • implementing an unavoidable choice for home broadband customers about whether to turn on parental control filters, as well as considering potential problems around overblocking.
        • working with the RDI (UK) Holdings to design a Friendly Wifi logo ,to allow parents and families to easily identify places where they can be sure that the public wifi has filtered inappropriate websites.
        • creating summaries of a large body of internet safety research
        • creating a guide for providers of social media and interactive services ( PDF. 4.23MB. 60 pages ) with examples of good practice from leading technology companies, and advice from NGOs and other online child safety experts. Its purpose is to encourage businesses to think about “safety by design” to help make their platforms safer for children and young people under 18. HTML version available here .
        • creating a guide for parents and carers ( PDF. 105KB. 2 pages ) whose children are using social media. The guide includes practical tips about the use of safety and privacy features on apps and platforms, as well as conversation prompts to help families begin talking about online safety. It also contains pointers to further advice and support.
      • They have also produced a video about a new best practice guide for smaller and start-up social media companies, which aims to promote a culture of “safety by design” in the online content industry.

        Eight Great Forensic Nurse Specialties

Learn about the different areas of forensic nursing and get forensic nursing job insight.

Forensic nursing encompasses a body of specialty professions that serve unique and critical roles to the health care and judicial systems. Forensic nurses might treat assault victims, investigate crime scenes or provide health care in a correctional facility. If the idea of a forensic nursing degree appeals to you, take a closer look at the aspects of each of the eight specialty areas described below.

        1. Correctional Nursing Specialists

Correctional nursing specialists provide efficient, quality health care to individuals detained by the courts, including those in jail, prison, juvenile offender facilities and other correctional institutions. Within these facilities, correctional nursing specialists may tend to the sick, perform routine physical examinations and administer medication to people with chronic needs.

        2. Forensic Clinical Nurse Specialists

Forensic clinical nurse specialists hold a master s or doctoral forensic nursing degree and use their advanced training to serve as expert clinicians, teachers, researches, consultants and administrators in different forensic settings. They may work in emergency rooms, sexual assault examination programs, psychiatric forensic treatment units or death investigation teams.

        3. Forensic Gerontology Specialists

Forensic gerontology specialists help investigate cases involving the abuse, neglect or exploitation of elders and work to raise awareness regarding legal and human rights issues. These forensic nurses typically work in hospitals, nursing homes and other facilities dedicated to caring for the elderly.

        4. Forensic Nurse Investigators

Forensic nurse investigators uncover the circumstances surrounding an unexpected or violent death. Typically employed in a medical examiner s or coroner s office, forensic nurse investigators examine the body, study the scene, assist in autopsies and collect medical and social history information on the deceased in order to determine the exact cause of death. Forensic nurse investigators often work with nurse coroners or death investigators.

        5. Forensic Psychiatric Nurses

Forensic psychiatric nurses specialize in managing offenders with psychological, social and behavioral disorders. They assess and select patients for treatment, provide rehabilitative care and supervise a patient s actions within the community. In addition, forensic psychiatric nurses may examine and treat criminal defendants and assist colleagues who have witnessed assaults or experienced some form of emotional trauma.

        6. Legal Nurse Consultants

Legal nurse consultants aid attorneys working on civil cases where the law and medicine overlap. Some of these situations might include medical malpractice, personal injury, workers compensation and probate. Legal nurse consultants apply their forensic nursing education and clinical experience to interpret, research and analyze the medically-related information relevant to a case or claim, educating attorneys about medical facts and acting as liaisons between attorneys, physicians and clients.

        7. Nurse Coroners or Death Investigators

Nurse coroners or death investigators apply their nursing skills to crime scene investigations. As the first forensic professional to arrive at the scene of a suspicious death, a nurse coroner or death investigator analyzes the scene and examines the body in order to approximate the time of death and find medical clues that might explain the cause.

        8. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners

Sexual assault nurse examiners offer compassionate, prompt care to victims of sexual assault. Qualified through a specialized forensic nursing education, they assess and evaluate injuries that a victim has suffered; locate, collect and package forensic evidence relevant to the crime; and provide information or referrals regarding the victim s continued care. In the court room, sexual assault nurse examiners represent the victim, serving as expert witnesses who offer testimony based on their documented evidence.

Through their work and dedication, forensic nurses have a profound effect on the criminal justice system and the public at large. A forensic nursing degree can lead to a career that makes a difference to health of the patients, the victims whose voices they represent and the communities they improve as a result of their expertise and compassion.

        Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology Online Program #online #schools #for #speech #pathology

Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology Online Program

This three-year program, which is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), is designed to prepare students for entry-level activity as speech-language pathologists. The program uses a clinician-researcher model to prepare students to be life-long learners with a strong foundation in evidence-based practice (EBP) and academics. The curriculum supports the development of skills related to EBP in a sequence that builds on students’ hands-on learning opportunities in clinical practicum settings. Throughout the curriculum, students gain experience formulating clinical questions, examining research, collecting data, evaluating outcomes, and presenting their findings in written and oral formats. Through their coursework and clinical training students develop critical thinking skills that will support their future work and development as speech-language pathologists.

The online program was developed specifically to meet the needs of non-traditional students with employment and/or family commitments that preclude participating in a full-time on-campus program, who wish to earn a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. This program assumes an undergraduate background in Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, or Communication Disorders. Students who do not have such a background must complete a core of undergraduate courses prior to beginning the program. Additionally, students must be employed as an SLPA or the equivalent, or under a Temporary Teacher Endorsement (TTE)/SLP, to participate in the online program.

During the program, students use web-based instruction and other technologies to participate in academic classes and clinical seminars. On-campus class meetings are required for two to three weeks during the first summer (third semester) of the program and a full-time, 12-week internship in a medical setting is required during the final summer of the program. All students must have access to the Internet. Email accounts provided by the university must be used throughout the program.

Clinical practicum courses are completed through a partnership between university faculty and a clinical supervisor(s) at each student’s place of employment. Once admitted to the program, students must maintain employment as a speech-language pathology assistant at a site where they can obtain their clinical hours under the supervision of an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist throughout each semester beginning with the first spring semester. If the student’s place of employment is not a public school, they will be required to complete a 2nd full-time internship at a school. This would add an additional semester to the program.

Upon completion, graduates are eligible to take the National Examination in Speech-Language Sciences (NESPA) and to complete the Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) required by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) for the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). Graduates are also eligible for the licensure/certification through the Departments of Education in most states. The program is accredited by the Council of Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and by the Colorado Department of Education. Certified speech-language pathologists find employment in the public schools, private practice, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities and freestanding clinics.

Students are admitted in cohort groups who progress through the program together. We anticipate that the next cohort (Cohort XII) will begin in Fall 2018 or Fall 2019 (to be determined). Applications will be accepted beginning October 1, 2017. The application deadline is February 1, 2018. Decisions regarding admission will not be made until after the deadline. Please check back in Summer 2017 for information about the next admissions cycle.

        Next Anticipated Application Cycle Deadline:
        February 1, 2018

        Applications may be accepted beginning:
        October 1, 2017

If you have any questions about the following information, please contact the Center for P-20 Safety and Security at 614-644-2641 or send us and email at [email protected].

Ohio’s current school safety plan statute went into effect on January 5, 2015. This page provides links to the Ohio Revised Code statute, the associated Administrative rule, and resources that will help you comply with the law.

Safety Plan Resources – REQUIRED DOCUMENT SAMPLES

A safety plan is a comprehensive all-hazards plan that takes into account all threats and hazards for a particular school. The plan must address ways the administrator will address those threats and a protocol for responding to those threats.

Floor plans must be submitted for each floor of each building for which you are responsible, and identify key infrastructure elements of the building.

A site plan is a view of your facility and all surrounding area, and identifies school buildings and nearby roadways.

An emergency sheet contains information so first responders can reach you and other people within your organization during an emergency, while the signature page identifies stakeholder involvement.

        (Updated November 2016)

Ohio Revised Code 3313.536 requires the Administrator of each facility in the state of Ohio that provides educational services to children and is subject to regulation by the Ohio Department of Education to submit an emergency management plan. Other regulations are also in place including the requirement to conduct an annual review and exercise of the plan. The statute can be found here: Ohio schools submit school safety plans via a secure online SAFE portal to help first responders in case of an emergency.

State experts with Ohio Homeland Security review the safety plan information submitted and provide guidance to help schools implement best practices and improve their plans. The grading rubric used to determine compliance (known as the Gap Analysis Tool, or GAT) can be found by clicking here. Additionally, the statute requires schools to review their plans each year and conduct emergency training drills so students and teachers can practice what to do in the case of a real emergency.
