The experimenter asks all of you, one at a time, to choose which of the three lines on the right card matches the length of the line on the left card. The task is repeated several times with different cards. On some occasions the other “subjects” unanimously choose the wrong line. It is clear to you that they are wrong, but they have all given the same answer.

To Asch’s surprise, 37 of the 50 subjects conformed themselves to the ‘obviously erroneous’ answers given by the other group members at least once, and 14 of them conformed on more than 6 of the ‘staged’ trials. When faced with a unanimous wrong answer by the other group members, the mean subject conformed on 4 of the ‘staged’ trials.

Why did most subjects conform so readily? When they were interviewed after the experiment, most of them said that they did not really believe their conforming answers, but had gone along with the group for fear of being ridiculed or thought “peculiar.” A few of them said that they really did believe the group’s answers were correct.

He found that the subjects conformed to a group of 3 or 4 as readily as they did to a larger group.

However, the subjects conformed much less if they had an “ally” In some of his experiments, Asch instructed one of the confederates to give correct answers. In the presence of this nonconformist, the real subjects conformed only one fourth as much as they did in the original experiment. There were several reasons: First, the real subject observed that the majority did not ridicule the dissenter for his answers. Second, the dissenter’s answers made the subject more certain that the majority was wrong. Third, the real subject now experienced social pressure from the dissenter as well as from the majority. Many of the real subjects later reported that they wanted to be like their nonconformist partner (the similarity principle again). Apparently, it is difficult to be a minority of one but not so difficult to be part of a minority of two.

50 Common Interview Questions And Answers

Review these typical interview questions and think about how you would answer them. Read the questions listed; you will also find some strategy suggestions with it.

The most often asked question in interviews. You need to have a short statement prepared in your mind. Be careful that it does not sound rehearsed. Limit it to work-related items unless instructed otherwise. Talk about things you have done and jobs you have held that relate to the position you are interviewing for. Start with the item farthest back and work up to the present.

Stay positive regardless of the circumstances. Never refer to a major problem with

management and never speak ill of supervisors, co-workers or the organization. If you do, you will be the one looking bad. Keep smiling and talk about leaving for a positive reason such as an opportunity, a chance to do something special or other forward-looking reasons.

Speak about specifics that relate to the position you are applying for. If you do not have specific experience, get as close as you can.

You should always answer yes and briefly explain why. A good explanation is that you have set goals, and you have met some and are on track to achieve the others.

Be prepared with a quote or two from co-workers. Either a specific statement or a

paraphrase will work. Jill Clark, a co-worker at Smith Company, always said I was the

hardest workers she had ever known. It is as powerful as Jill having said it at the interview herself.

This question is one reason to do some research on the organization before the interview. Find out where they have been and where they are going. What are the current issues and who are the major players?

Be honest but do not spend a lot of time in this area. Keep the focus on this job and what you can do for this organization. Anything else is a distraction.

This may take some thought and certainly, should be based on the research you have done on the organization. Sincerity is extremely important here and will easily be sensed. Relate it to your long-term career goals.

Be aware of the policy on relatives working for the organization. This can affect your answer even though they asked about friends not relatives. Be careful to mention a friend only if they are well thought of.

A loaded question. A nasty little game that you will probably lose if you answer first. So, do not answer it. Instead, say something like, That’s a tough question. Can you tell me the range for this position? In most cases, the interviewer, taken off guard, will tell you. If not, say that it can depend on the details of the job. Then give a wide range.

You are, of course, a team player. Be sure to have examples ready. Specifics that show you often perform for the good of the team rather than for yourself are good evidence of your team attitude. Do not brag, just say it in a matter-of-fact tone. This is a key point.

Specifics here are not good. Something like this should work: I’d like it to be a long time. Or- as long as we both feel I’m doing a good job.

This is serious. Do not make light of it or in any way seem like you like to fire people. At the same time, you will do it when it is the right thing to do. When it comes to the organization versus the individual who has created a harmful situation, you will protect the organization.

Remember firing is not the same as layoff or reduction in force.

The interviewer is not looking for a long or flowery dissertation here. Do you have strong feelings that the job gets done? Yes. That’s the type of answer that works best here. Short and positive, showing a benefit to the organization.

Answer yes if you would. But since you need to work, this is the type of work you prefer. Do not say yes if you do not mean it.

If you have not, say no. If you have, be honest, brief and avoid saying negative things about the people or organization involved.

You should be anxious for this question. It gives you a chance to highlight your best points as they relate to the position being discussed. Give a little advance thought to this relationship.

Point out how your assets meet what the organization needs. Do not mention any other

candidates to make a comparison.

Have a good one ready. Be sure and use a suggestion that was accepted and was then

considered successful. One related to the type of work applied for is a real plus.

This is a trap question. Think real hard but fail to come up with anything that irritates you.

A short statement that you seem to get along with folks is great.

Numerous answers are good, just stay positive. A few good examples:

Money is always important, but the work is the most important. There is no better answer.

Ask questions and get answers How do I find and repair air leak in an inflatable boat, kayak or raft?

Ask questions and get answers If you are losing air pressure, (aside from pressure loss commonly caused by colder temperatures), check the boat over for air leaks. Air must to escape somewhere for air chamber to become soft. No magic here. The best tool to find air leaks is soap, shampoo or dish detergent mixed with water in a spray bottle. Start by checking the valves first. Spray around the valve on a suspected air chamber. If you see bubbles forming, check your valve fitting and base and be sure the valve insert is screwed on tight and pushpin is in correct position. See FAQ below for more help with leaky air valves.

To find tiny leaks on a boat surface, fully inflate the boat until it’s hard to the touch. Put some liquid detergent in a bucket of water and scrub it all over the boat with rag or big wash brush. Watch for elusive or tiny bubbles. When you find the first leak, keep looking. You might as well fix them all at the same time! Remember, the number one cause of slow leaks is due to poorly fitted valves. Unscrew the valve and clean the area. Make sure the little rubber O-rings are still good. They are the cheapest repair possible.

If you have no luck finding a slow leak with air bubbles, inflate the boat to it’s maximum air pressure and try to listen for the leak. If you can narrow the area down, return with a spray bottle to identify the source of the leak.

Divide air chamber surface into imaginary squares, and apply soapy mix to that square and then look against surface to see for bubbles. If no bubbles are appears after 5-10 minutes, then move to another square. Don’t forget to apply soapy water all along seams.

Punctures less than 1/8″ in size can be repaired simply without a patch. Deflate your boat, then clean and dry the area to be repaired. Apply a small drop of glue to cover the puncture and let dry for 12 hours. If you need to get on the water sooner, let dry for 30 minutes and then inflate the boat, inflating the compartment with the repair only 3/4 full. This repair might not be permanent so add a drop again at a later date to make it permanent.

Your inflatable boat comes with a repair kit as standard equipment. It is recommended to do repairs in dry weather. Humidity will decrease glue bond. Cut a piece of repair material large enough to overlap the damaged area by approximately 1″ and round off the edges. Apply glue to the under side of the patch and around the area to be repaired. Too much glue will often interfere with a proper repair. Allow adhesive to become tacky for 5 minutes, and then place patch on the damaged area. Use a weight to apply 3-5 lbs. of pressure for 24 hours. After the patch has dried, apply glue around the edges for a complete seal (dry 6 hours).

Repeat same operation with different chambers until you will pinpoint leaking chamber.

If air leak is very slow, it might be difficult to immediately detect air bubbles. Try to press on air chamber to increase pressure or leave for couple minutes. If valve is leaking, then you will see small bubbles forming in a place of air leak.

Welcome to TED TALKS PSYCHOLOGY a series of curated lessons derived from TED. TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a global set of conferences owned by the private non-profit Sapling Foundation under the slogan “ideas worth spreading”. Speakers are selected for their originality, clarity of vision and insight into present problems. Many of their presentation conclude with optimistic suggestions for change. The speakers are given less than 18 minutes to present their ideas in an innovative and engaging manner. They address a wide range of topics within the research and practice of science and culture, often through storytelling. Presenters include leading thinkers, innovators, scientists, and many Noble Prize winners. TED TALKS PSYCHOLOGY was created by two university professors with over 90 years of professional practice and teaching to help psychology students and their professors see beyond the material (often dated material) found in their text books and tune in to some of the most cutting edge thinking and research currently going on anywhere on the planet. They have taken TED talks and assembled them into specific topic areas within psychology. They have provided advanced organizers (or pre-thinking prompts) to engage student awareness. This course can help prepare students who wish to continue their social studies education after high school, as well as students who wish to perform exceptionally well on the SAT exam. The level of aptitude in this subject will assist students wishing to excel on the SAT and in college courses.

While there is no official prerequisite for AP Psychology, it is highly advised that students take a basic psychology course before tackling an AP Psychology course. This will ensure that students are familiar with basic psychology terminology and that they don’t fall behind in class discussion. Students should also make sure that they are prepared for the course load associated with an Advanced Placement Psychology course. Most social studies classes include extensive readings of both textbooks and case studies. Students should be prepared to both read and analyze what they read in order to apply it to the class. They should also be somewhat familiar with general Psychology concepts and terminology before enrolling in an Advanced Placement Psychology class.

According to the College Board’s website, this course introduces students to the systematic and scientific study of the behavior and mental processes of human beings and other animals. Included is a consideration of the psychological facts, principles, and phenomena associated with each of the major subfields within psychology. Major topics include the various perspectives from which psychologists view behavior and mental processes. They range from a study of the brain and child development to personality and psychological disorders. Students also learn about the ethics and methods psychologists use in their science and practice.

Among the different topics that AP Psychology will cover are:

  • History and Approaches to Psychology, where students will gain an appreciation for the different perspectives that have shaped the development of psychological thought.
  • Research Methods, where students will learn about the different means of obtaining scientific information and how to analyze that information.
  • Biological Bases of Behavior, where students will learn about the relationships between the physiological processes and animal (human) beavior.
  • Sensation and Perception, where student will learn how the body translates different sensations and stimuli into psychological processes within the mind.
  • States of Consciousness, where students will be taught about the difference between different amounts of brain activity and consciousness.
  • Learning, were students will come to understand how humans can learn through different sensory experiences and experiences.
  • Cogntion, where students will be taught how the brain is able to convert sensory information into different kinds of information.
  • Motivation and Emotion, where students will explore the biological and social factors that motivate typical and extreme human behavior.
  • Developmental Psychology, where students will learn how the brain develops over time, and how different experiences may affect the brain’s development.

Students will also be able to use study notes, study guides, and other various study techniques in conjunction with Psychology textbooks and case studies.

Students considering taking AP Psychology or any other Advanced Placement course should recognize that taking these classes requires a more serious commitment than other high school courses. Students that commit themselves to their coursework will see a substantial payoff in both their SAT exam scores as well as their college preparedness.

Students that wish to get accepted into prestigious or highly-selective schools should seriously consider taking AP courses. They not only look outstanding on high school transcripts, but they can also give students an inside look at college courses before graduating from high school. Most importantly, they can assist students in earning college credit while still in high school, saving valuable time and money in the process. They will also help students develop the skills they need to succeed in the rigorous college atmosphere, and give students valuable knowledge that they can use both inside and outside of the classroom. The sooner students get a jump on their education, the sooner they’ll be able to reap the benefits of their efforts!
