Is the Allah of Islam the God of the Bible? Long before Muhammad was born, Arabic Christians already were referring to God as Allah—and millions continue to do so today. The Allah of Islam, however, is definitely not the God of the Bible. For while Muslims passionately defend the unity of God, they patently deny [ ]

The oremus Bible Browser is, and always has been, offered free of any charge. If you would like to make a contribution to costs then donations can be accepted via Amazon or PayPal. Amazon gift vouchers can be purchased online at Amazon UK for delivery by email to simon oremus.org

Please use amazon.co.uk when buying vouchers; if you use amazon.com then it costs $12.50 to ship each and every book purchased.

An API for the oremus Bible Browser

A frequently-asked question is whether it is possible to interface to the oBB. The answer is that it is, but that the interface has not been publicly documented. That has now been put right, and the web interface is described here.

oBB on Mobile Devices

At version 2.2.6 (June 2010) we have made a few minor changes to the formatting of the oremus Bible Browser when displayed on iOS devices (such as the iPhone and iPod touch) as well as on other mobile devices. These changes should make it significantly simpler and easier to use the oremus Bible Browser on such devices. Further improvements are also planned. Whilst it is not possible to implement the oBB as an iOS app , both for practical and copyright reasons, we do intend to provide an optimized web version for this platform.

Cookies and your privacy

In normal usage the oremus Bible Browser does not use cookies at all. However, if you choose to customize the default settings of the oBB (through the Set preferences button, then your choices will be saved in a cookie that is saved to your computer and is read whenever you visit the oBB. The cookie only stores information about your default preferences and is not used to track your usage of the site, and no information is passed to third parties. Third party cookies are not used at all.

Welcome to the oremus Bible Browser, version 2.2

Version 2.2 has a new feature which allows you to dynamically toggle the display of verse and chapter numbers, footnote markers, and section headings after you have displayed a bible passage rather than having to decide in advance. These buttons will not remove these text elements if the text is copied from some web browsers into, say, a text editor. To do this click the ‘Remove hidden text’ button after clicking the required checkboxes, before copying text to the clipboard.

The dynamic toggling of footnotes, verse numbers etc continues to be troublesome in some web browsers when copying and pasting to some word processors. Version 2.2.5 provides a checkbox which when ticked means that any hidden text (as determined by the other hide/show checkboxes) is never written when displaying the specified passage(s). This may make it easier to copy and paste text from the oremus Bible Browser; but the consequence is that the dynamic toggle buttons do not work in this case.

We will be adding more new features in the coming months. Please do write to us at the following address with suggestions for enhancements.

Bible Query – Answers to Bible questions, bible answers.#Bible #answers

bible answers

Why So Many Questions?

I have attempted to hunt down every objection, difficulty, and alleged contradiction every non-Christian and Christian has asked. I tried to show some of the archaeological support for the Bible, discuss Bible and science issues, and give multiple answers in some places where Christian scholars disagree. I often look at things skeptically, but praise God Jesus died for skeptics, too. I also believe the Bible in the original manuscripts is the inerrant word of God. However, I am extremely skeptical of other things, such as the claims that the universe could have started by random chance.

How Important is All This?

Frankly, it is not critical for a Christian to know the answers to all these questions. Could anyone have been a good Christian prior to having the wealth of archaeological evidence we have in the twentieth century? Of` course! Many fine Christians have a deep relationship with Jesus, and other gifts, without having this head-knowledge.

What About non-Conservative Christians?

I grew up in a liberal Christian environment where most thought the Bible had many errors. I believe there are a large number of non-conservative Christians who would be happy to become conservative Christians, except that they see some alleged errors in the Bible, and see no hope of ever resolving them. If this describes you, perhaps these answers will really help.

What If You Don’t Have an Answer?

For much of my Christian life, there have been one or two questions I could not fully answer. I would pray about them, read the Bible, study what others said, and eventually, sometimes months later, I would have the answers. Meanwhile, by then I had new questions. My questions were a way God used to teach me.

How Do I Become a Christian?

Two words: repent and believe. Here is what these mean, as well as what they do not mean.

Bible History

The Bible is the history book of the universe. It provides an accurate account of historical events that serve as a foundation and a framework for understanding, dating, and interpreting secular history and historical science.

Seven C’s of the Bible

Most people look at the Bible as a book that contains many interesting stories and theological teaching. While this is true, the Bible is so much more—it’s a history book that reveals the major events of history that are foundational to the Bible’s important messages.

Chronology of Ancient Civilizations

Nothing in ancient history (when properly understood) can possibly conflict with biblical history. As archaeologists continue to make exciting new discoveries, we have nothing to worry about. God’s eyewitness record is 100% true and reliable, the only sure starting point for studying the timeline of human history.

The Biblical Timescale

The Bible provides us with a timescale for history. Although not measured by means of atomic clocks, the several dates and facts underlay a proper understanding of the Bible.

Josephus and Biblical History

Josephus is an eminently important and helpful source for gathering details about New Testament times, but Christians should be careful not to read him as an apologist for Christianity or to rely upon him too heavily. Nor should they be ignorant of his bias in favor of Judaism.

A recently reported study by meteorologist Carl Drews has suggested a way in which the waters of the Red Sea could have parted “naturally,” enabling the children of Israel, led by Moses, to cross as pharaoh’s army pursued (Exodus 14). Jeremiah 13-16

Chapter 13

1 Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

2 So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.

3 And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,

4 Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

5 So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.

Answers to bible questions

H ere’s our short answers to some of the stickier, trickier questions that come our way from time to time. Try these on your friends as conversation starters.

Answers to bible questions

If God is all-powerful, can He create a rock so big that He can’t lift it?

No. God cannot do the logically impossible, any more than He can act out of character with Himself. God cannot, for instance, create a square circle, stop being good, or cease being God. God can do everything that is possible to do, which includes those acts for which there may be no simple, immediate, apparent, human explanation, i.e. miracles. For further study, see Jeremiah 32:17, Matthew 19:26, Hebrews 6:18, and 2 Timothy 2:13.

If God created Satan, and Satan is evil, is evil God’s fault?

No. God did not create Satan (or men, for that matter) as evil—only with the capacity for evil. (Isaiah 14:12)

Could Jesus have sinned?

Only if He had wanted to sin.

Could Jesus have really ever wanted to sin?

No. Not really. Not ultimately.

In His humanity alone, the answer would be “yes,” which is why the temptations that Jesus faced (Matthew 4:1, Hebrews 4:15) were indeed very intense and real. Nevertheless, though Jesus was fully human, He was not only human. And in terms of His Divine nature—when it came right down to it—He would never, and could never, have actually ever willed to sin. To have done so would mean that He (as God) had actually willed to occur what He actually willed not to occur, which makes no sense at all.

The Bible says in James 1:13 that God (i.e. by inference, the Divine nature of Christ) cannot be tempted by evil.

For further insight, see: Could Christ have sinned? Answer (ChristianAnswers.Net/q-acb/acb-t003.html)

If God is everywhere, is He in Hell?

Yes. Insofar as Divine omnipresence implies access and involves, or interrelates to, the other Divine attributes of infinitude, omnipotence (control), and omniscience (awareness), God is present even in hell. No door anywhere is closed to God. No room is locked. No corner of the universe or reality is off-limits to Deity. The Bible affirms this truth in texts like Psalm 139:7-10, Colossians 1:17, Amos 9:1-4, Isaiah 66:1-2, Jeremiah 23:23-24.

God, however, is not relationally present with, or available to, those in hell. That is, He is not present to bless, deal with, or grant even common grace and light in hell, which explains the terrifying sense of Matthew 25:41, the external extrapolation of a spiritual separation that occurs even now when sin is present (Isaiah 59:2, Matthew 27:46).

Leviticus 11:7-8 says that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean. May I still play football if I wear gloves?

You may still play football. And you don’t even need to wear gloves. Just receive Christ as Savior, read Acts 10:15, and get with the times, for this is the New Testament era, friend. And by the way—most footballs these days are made from cowhide, not pigskin. In fact, one source reports that it takes 3,000 cows to supply the NFL with enough leather for a year’s supply of footballs.

Answers to bible questions

Couldn’t life on Earth be the result of mere chance? Thomas Huxley is reported to have once stated that if enough monkeys randomly pressed typewriter keys for a long enough time, sooner or later Psalm 23 would emerge.

Answers to bible questions

First of all, monkeys don’t type.* But even if they did, chance alone could never adequately account for the growing number of factors being cited by the Intelligent Design movement, e.g. irreducible complexity (Darwin’s Black Box, by Michael Behe), the generation of complex specified information (Intelligent Design, p165ff, by William Demski).

* Instructors at Plymouth University, England, once put six Sulawesi crested macaque monkeys in a room with a computer and keyboards for four weeks. One monkey frequently typed the letter “s,” but the other monkeys ignored the keyboard. One eventually smashed it with a stone and the others then began to repeatedly urinate and defecate on it. —with thanks to columnist Dennis Prager in “Monkeys and Atheists.”
