50 Common Interview Questions And Answers

Review these typical interview questions and think about how you would answer them. Read the questions listed; you will also find some strategy suggestions with it.

The most often asked question in interviews. You need to have a short statement prepared in your mind. Be careful that it does not sound rehearsed. Limit it to work-related items unless instructed otherwise. Talk about things you have done and jobs you have held that relate to the position you are interviewing for. Start with the item farthest back and work up to the present.

Stay positive regardless of the circumstances. Never refer to a major problem with

management and never speak ill of supervisors, co-workers or the organization. If you do, you will be the one looking bad. Keep smiling and talk about leaving for a positive reason such as an opportunity, a chance to do something special or other forward-looking reasons.

Speak about specifics that relate to the position you are applying for. If you do not have specific experience, get as close as you can.

You should always answer yes and briefly explain why. A good explanation is that you have set goals, and you have met some and are on track to achieve the others.

Be prepared with a quote or two from co-workers. Either a specific statement or a

paraphrase will work. Jill Clark, a co-worker at Smith Company, always said I was the

hardest workers she had ever known. It is as powerful as Jill having said it at the interview herself.

This question is one reason to do some research on the organization before the interview. Find out where they have been and where they are going. What are the current issues and who are the major players?

Try to include improvement activities that relate to the job. A wide variety of activities can be mentioned as positive self-improvement. Have some good ones handy to mention.

Be honest but do not spend a lot of time in this area. Keep the focus on this job and what you can do for this organization. Anything else is a distraction.

This may take some thought and certainly, should be based on the research you have done on the organization. Sincerity is extremely important here and will easily be sensed. Relate it to your long-term career goals.

Be aware of the policy on relatives working for the organization. This can affect your answer even though they asked about friends not relatives. Be careful to mention a friend only if they are well thought of.

A loaded question. A nasty little game that you will probably lose if you answer first. So, do not answer it. Instead, say something like, That’s a tough question. Can you tell me the range for this position? In most cases, the interviewer, taken off guard, will tell you. If not, say that it can depend on the details of the job. Then give a wide range.

You are, of course, a team player. Be sure to have examples ready. Specifics that show you often perform for the good of the team rather than for yourself are good evidence of your team attitude. Do not brag, just say it in a matter-of-fact tone. This is a key point.

Specifics here are not good. Something like this should work: I’d like it to be a long time. Or- as long as we both feel I’m doing a good job.

This is serious. Do not make light of it or in any way seem like you like to fire people. At the same time, you will do it when it is the right thing to do. When it comes to the organization versus the individual who has created a harmful situation, you will protect the organization.

Remember firing is not the same as layoff or reduction in force.

The interviewer is not looking for a long or flowery dissertation here. Do you have strong feelings that the job gets done? Yes. That’s the type of answer that works best here. Short and positive, showing a benefit to the organization.

Answer yes if you would. But since you need to work, this is the type of work you prefer. Do not say yes if you do not mean it.

If you have not, say no. If you have, be honest, brief and avoid saying negative things about the people or organization involved.

You should be anxious for this question. It gives you a chance to highlight your best points as they relate to the position being discussed. Give a little advance thought to this relationship.

Point out how your assets meet what the organization needs. Do not mention any other

candidates to make a comparison.

Have a good one ready. Be sure and use a suggestion that was accepted and was then

considered successful. One related to the type of work applied for is a real plus.

This is a trap question. Think real hard but fail to come up with anything that irritates you.

A short statement that you seem to get along with folks is great.

Numerous answers are good, just stay positive. A few good examples:

Your ability to prioritize, Your problem-solving skills, Your ability to work under pressure, Your ability to focus on projects, Your professional expertise, Your leadership skills, Yourpositive attitude.

Stay away from a specific job. You cannot win. If you say the job you are contending for is it, you strain credibility. If you say another job is it, you plant the suspicion that you will be dissatisfied with this position if hired. The best is to stay genetic and say something like: A job where I love the work, like the people, can contribute and can’t wait to get to work.

Give several reasons and include skills, experience and interest.

Do not be trivial. It would take disloyalty to the organization, violence or lawbreaking to get you to object. Minor objections will label you as a whiner.

Money is always important, but the work is the most important. There is no better answer.

There are numerous good possibilities:

Loyalty, Energy, Positive attitude, Leadership, Team player, Expertise, Initiative, Patience, Hard work, Creativity, Problem solver

Biggest trap of all. This is a test to see if you will speak ill of your boss. If you fall for it and tell about a problem with a former boss, you may well below the interview right there. Stay positive and develop a poor memory about any trouble with a supervisor.

Don’t get trivial or negative. Safe areas are few but can include:

Not enough of a challenge. You were laid off in a reduction Company did not win a contract, which would have given you more responsibility.

You may say that you thrive under certain types of pressure. Give an example that relates to the type of position applied for.

Probably this one. Do not give fuel to the suspicion that you may want another job more than this one.

This is a personal trait that only you can say, but good examples are:

Challenge, Achievement, Recognition

This is up to you. Be totally honest.

Several ways are good measures:

You set high standards for yourself and meet them. Your outcomes are a success.Your boss tell you that you are successful

You should be clear on this with your family prior to the interview if you think there is a chance it may come up. Do not say yes just to get the job if the real answer is no. This can create a lot of problems later on in your career. Be honest at this point and save yourself future grief.

This is a straight loyalty and dedication question. Do not worry about the deep ethical and philosophical implications. Just say yes.

Try to avoid labels. Some of the more common labels, like progressive, salesman or

consensus, can have several meanings or descriptions depending on which management

expert you listen to. The situational style is safe, because it says you will manage according to the situation, instead of one size fits all.

Here you have to come up with something or you strain credibility. Make it small, well intentioned mistake with a positive lesson learned. An example would be working too far ahead of colleagues on a project and thus throwing coordination off.

Trick question. If you know about blind spots, they are no longer blind spots. Do not reveal any personal areas of concern here. Let them do their own discovery on your bad points. Do not hand it to them.

Be careful to mention traits that are needed and that you have.

Regardless of your qualifications, state that you are very well qualified for the position.

First, if you have experience that the interviewer does not know about, bring that up: Then, point out (if true) that you are a hard working quick learner.

Be generic and positive. Safe qualities are knowledgeable, a sense of humor, fair, loyal to subordinates and holder of high standards. All bosses think they have these traits.

Pick a specific incident. Concentrate on your problem solving technique and not the dispute you settled.

Be honest. If you are comfortable in different roles, point that out.

Emphasize benefits to the organization. Things like, determination to get the job done and work hard but enjoy your work are good.

Be sure that you refer to something that was beyond your control. Show acceptance and no negative feelings.

Talk about having fun by accomplishing something for the organization.

Always have some questions prepared. Questions prepared where you will be an asset to

the organization are good. How soon will I be able to be productive? and What type of

projects will I be able to assist on? are examples.

Questions Answers

Ask questions and get answers How do I find and repair air leak in an inflatable boat, kayak or raft?

Ask questions and get answers If you are losing air pressure, (aside from pressure loss commonly caused by colder temperatures), check the boat over for air leaks. Air must to escape somewhere for air chamber to become soft. No magic here. The best tool to find air leaks is soap, shampoo or dish detergent mixed with water in a spray bottle. Start by checking the valves first. Spray around the valve on a suspected air chamber. If you see bubbles forming, check your valve fitting and base and be sure the valve insert is screwed on tight and pushpin is in correct position. See FAQ below for more help with leaky air valves.

To find tiny leaks on a boat surface, fully inflate the boat until it’s hard to the touch. Put some liquid detergent in a bucket of water and scrub it all over the boat with rag or big wash brush. Watch for elusive or tiny bubbles. When you find the first leak, keep looking. You might as well fix them all at the same time! Remember, the number one cause of slow leaks is due to poorly fitted valves. Unscrew the valve and clean the area. Make sure the little rubber O-rings are still good. They are the cheapest repair possible.

If you have no luck finding a slow leak with air bubbles, inflate the boat to it’s maximum air pressure and try to listen for the leak. If you can narrow the area down, return with a spray bottle to identify the source of the leak.

Divide air chamber surface into imaginary squares, and apply soapy mix to that square and then look against surface to see for bubbles. If no bubbles are appears after 5-10 minutes, then move to another square. Don’t forget to apply soapy water all along seams.

Punctures less than 1/8″ in size can be repaired simply without a patch. Deflate your boat, then clean and dry the area to be repaired. Apply a small drop of glue to cover the puncture and let dry for 12 hours. If you need to get on the water sooner, let dry for 30 minutes and then inflate the boat, inflating the compartment with the repair only 3/4 full. This repair might not be permanent so add a drop again at a later date to make it permanent.

Your inflatable boat comes with a repair kit as standard equipment. It is recommended to do repairs in dry weather. Humidity will decrease glue bond. Cut a piece of repair material large enough to overlap the damaged area by approximately 1″ and round off the edges. Apply glue to the under side of the patch and around the area to be repaired. Too much glue will often interfere with a proper repair. Allow adhesive to become tacky for 5 minutes, and then place patch on the damaged area. Use a weight to apply 3-5 lbs. of pressure for 24 hours. After the patch has dried, apply glue around the edges for a complete seal (dry 6 hours).

Ask questions and get answers What to do if inflatable boat compartments become soft over time?

Ask questions and get answers All inflatable products, including dinghies, kayaks and rafts are tested at our factory. They are kept fully inflated for 48 hours after the SATURN logos are applied to the product tubes. Therefore, it is extremely unlikely that brand new inflatable products are leaking air right out of the box. If air is escaping rapidly from a valve when you inflate your product for the first time, then most likely you are not properly locking the air valve.

Please note, that since air chambers are separated by inner baffles, it is possible that air leak in one chamber will cause other chamber to become soft too. Ask questions and get answersIn this case you will need to pinpoint which chamber is actually leaking air. To do that you will need to deflate other chambers, and inflate only one chamber at the time to the full air pressure, and then see if it will get soft overt time, or if you can find air bubbles anywhere with application of soapy water. If inflated chamber holding air good and no soapy bubbles are observed, then it mean that some other chamber can be compromised. Repeat same operation with different chambers until you will pinpoint leaking chamber.

If air leak is very slow, it might be difficult to immediately detect air bubbles. Try to press on air chamber to increase pressure or leave for couple minutes. If valve is leaking, then you will see small bubbles forming in a place of air leak.

Ask questions and get answers

If you are observing air bubbles around the valve housing perimeter while applying a soapy mixture, there is a possibility that the valve needs to be tightened with a specialized valve tool. Such tools may be purchased or borrowed at It should also be included with your repair kit.

Ask questions and get answers What are the differences between drop stitch air and plywood floors?

Ask questions and get answers Ask questions and get answersOnce inflated, a high pressure air floor becomes as rigid as a plywood floor. You can stand, walk or even jump on it, the same way you could on plywood floor.

If you are planning to inflate and deflate your boat often, then the air floor is your best solution, because the boat folds compactly. It’s a breeze to assemble and inflatable boats with air floor. Just roll out-and inflate.

Assembling a plywood floor is a little bit of a hassle, and therefore we recommend plywood floors only if you keep the boat inflated most of the time. Another advantage of an air floor is that it is much lighter then a plywood floor. Due to it’s lighter weight, the boat can achieve a higher speed much easier then with a plywood floor. Plus, an air floor is easy on your knees and absorbs vibrations better then a plywood floor. Because of these outstanding features, most of our customers prefer boats with air floors.

AP Psychology

This course can help prepare students who wish to continue their social studies education after high school, as well as students who wish to perform exceptionally well on the SAT exam. The level of aptitude in this subject will assist students wishing to excel on the SAT and in college courses.

While there is no official prerequisite for AP Psychology, it is highly advised that students take a basic psychology course before tackling an AP Psychology course. This will ensure that students are familiar with basic psychology terminology and that they don’t fall behind in class discussion. Students should also make sure that they are prepared for the course load associated with an Advanced Placement Psychology course. Most social studies classes include extensive readings of both textbooks and case studies. Students should be prepared to both read and analyze what they read in order to apply it to the class. They should also be somewhat familiar with general Psychology concepts and terminology before enrolling in an Advanced Placement Psychology class.

According to the College Board’s website, this course introduces students to the systematic and scientific study of the behavior and mental processes of human beings and other animals. Included is a consideration of the psychological facts, principles, and phenomena associated with each of the major subfields within psychology. Major topics include the various perspectives from which psychologists view behavior and mental processes. They range from a study of the brain and child development to personality and psychological disorders. Job Interview Questions and Answers for Psychologists

I had a very positive experience with a therapist during my youth. My father suffered from post- trammatic stress syndrome from the war and from being discharged from the army. He was unable to cope with civilian life. As a result, our entire family struggled–especially my mom. It wasn’t until we received ongoing couseling from a caring and qualified psychologist, when I was about 10 years old, that things started to get better. Without that help, I don’t think we would have made it. I owe a lot to this professional. More importantly, I’ve seen the powerful effect therapy and psychological interventions can have on individuals, families and society as a whole. I decided to specialize my studies in Child Psychology simply because I hate to see kids struggle. Additionally, I feel that helping our kids to lead healthing and productive childhoods is the first step to eliminating mental health issues in adulthood.

For the past three years I’ve worked as a therapist at the St. Luke’s Catholic School for Children. While I’ve found the work fulfilling, recently I’ve had a strong desire to transition into a clincial setting where I’m assisting clientele with serious emotional, behavioral, and mental disorders. I’m finding that my knowledge and skill set are not where they need to be in order to be effective in this capacity of clinical psychology so I’ve been attending post-graduate courses in abnormal psychology at the University of Chicago in the evenings to become more versed in the treatments and therapies that are most effective for treating individuals with these conditions.

When I studied clinical psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology I focused my studies on early childhood behavioral development and cognition. For the last year I’ve worked as a school psychologist with a local district helping kids address negative emotional and behavioral issues affecting their ability to interact socially and progress academically. As a byproduct of my interaction with children, teachers, parents and other administors, I’ve found that I’m very effective at conducting family and group therapies–and that I thoroughly enjoy the work. That’s one of the reasons I’m so interested in your organization and position you have available.

Yes. In fact, I would like to know a little more about the scope of services you offer.

In the near-term I’m looking for a position in clinical psychology where I can really provide a positive influence in the lives of people struggling with psychosomatic disorders. As I just graduated from college, my long-term career goals are not as concrete yet, but I see myself working in a similar capacity with a competent organization that is dedicated to helping people improve their lives.

2. When did you first become interested in a career in psychology? How did you become interested in (specific interest area)?

3. What are some of your personal strengths and weaknesses? What have you done to address your weaknesses?

4. What are your long term career goals? 5 years? 10 years?

5. Why should I hire you?

6. What can you contribut to our organization?

7. Why did you choose this career Path?

2. What is your greatest strength as a therapist?

3. What challenges do you thing you’ll confront a therapist?

4. What areas of clinical work to you enjoy most?

5. What type of experience do you have with inpatient/group/family/individual/etc. treatment?

6. What theoretical orientations do you have? What do you think of the _____ approach?

2. What is your opinion of projective testing (e.g., Rorschach)

3. What is your opinion of objective testing (e.g., MMPI-2)

4. What additional assessment training or experiences do you want or feel you need?

2. What clinical relevant does your research have?

3. Describe some of the research projects you’ve been involved with?

2. What are your strengths and weakness in working with minorities?

3. What reading/didactic experiences have influence the way you think about diverse populations?

4. Do you have any specific concerns about working with a particular population of people?

The Twitter migration of 2015

In early 2015, Jud moved part of his online presence to Twitter, under the handle @TheAskJud. It wasn’t before long before the crowds of people following his presence online made the jump to Twitter. His ability to answer many different types of questions, both online and on Twitter attracted many.

His Twitter has been inactive for two years due to an oversubscription of requests. Twitter hadn’t created the tooling for him to keep up with demand. Though there may come a time for him to return, there are no plans at this time.
