Sports Administration Degree Programs with Career Info

Essential Information

People who have an interest in sports, but more talent for organization and management than athletic ability, are especially good candidates to pursue a degree in sports administration. A bachelor’s degree program in sports administration integrates concepts from business administration, health and athletics to prepare students for an array of supporting roles in the sports industry. Graduates can pursue mid-management or coordinator positions in schools, camps, sports marketing companies or fitness centers.

A master’s degree program in sports administration addresses the financial, managerial, organizational, promotional and legal challenges of administering a sports facility, sports program or recreation program. Sports administration curricula are structured to provide practical experience through internships and a theoretical and conceptual foundation through academic courses in marketing and promotion, media relations, organizational structure and finance. Senior management positions in sports marketing firms, sports manufacturing companies, consulting firms, professional sports organizations or sports agencies could be explored by those holding a master’s degree in sports administration.

Forensic Scientist Careers, Jobs and Degree Information – Criminal Justice USA #degree

    Criminal Justice USA

How to Become a Forensic Scientist

Forensic scientists help solve crimes by collecting and analyzing physical evidence and other facts found at the scene. They specifically analyze fingerprints, blood, semen, firearms, saliva, and drugs, and may also reconstruct skeletal bones. In addition, forensic scientists write reports, preserve evidence, testify in court, and discuss evidence collection with attorneys and law enforcement personnel. Often times, the scientific breakdown of evidence is crucial in determining an accused person s guilt or innocence in a crime. Therefore, the role of forensic scientists is vital to the criminal justice process.

    Education Requirements

A four-year degree in physics, biology, microbiology, chemistry, medical technology, or genetics, is required in order to obtain an entry-level job in forensic science. Taking classes in law and communication can also be helpful. In addition, experience in a laboratory may be required by some crime labs.

    Special Skills

The field of Forensics requires scientists to work with a wide assortment of people, in situations that are often stressful. Because of this, it is crucial that people working in this profession have exceptional people skills. It is also important for forensic scientists to be good speakers and proficient writers as they will be required to write up a number of reports, and may be called upon to witness in court. Lastly, because forensic scientists must be to handle minute pieces of evidence while looking through a microscope, excellent hand-eye coordination is essential.

    Salary and Benefits

Most forensic scientists work for federal or state crime laboratories. Because they are primarily government run, some medical and retirement benefits may be paid by these establishments.

On average, beginning forensic scientists working at the state level are paid a monthly salary of about $1,900. Those with previous laboratory experience earn significantly more, up to $3,000 per month. Salaries vary from state to state; but with experience, forensic scientists may eventually earn annual salaries between $35,000 and $50,000.

    Working Conditions

Forensic scientists employed by the government are typically able to work a 40-hour work week. However, specific deadlines, and an increasing number of caseloads may require overtime.

Although they spend the majority of their time working a crime lab, forensic scientists are often called to crime scenes in order to examine, analyze, and secure evidence. They may also be asked to testify in court.

Job Outlook for Forensic Science Professionals

Forensic scientists who are skilled and experienced are continuously being sought after. However, because of constant pressure to decrease the amount of funding given to such areas, beginning positions are typically limited, and competition for hire is fierce. Overall outlooks for jobs in this area are fair to moderate.

Sunday 26 October 2003 12.57 GMT First published on Sunday 26 October 2003 12.57 GMT

The small advertisement in a leading business magazine says simply ‘non-traditional degrees’ and gives an email address to contact. When it arrives, the literature for the self-styled Trinity College and University, based at Fuengirola in Spain, gets quickly to the point. ‘We provide a unique service by helping people who have not had the advantage of a college education by converting all your prior learning, academic and qualified experience into a “non-traditional” degree,’ it says.

A degree will help you get ahead in the job market, it continues, adding: ‘We do not ask you to take time off to study further or sit exams, nor do we have any residency requirements.’

All you have to do is to fill in a form specifying what class of degree you would like and in which subject, then send it off with a cheque for the appropriate fee: £125 for a Bachelor, £150 with honours chucked in; £195 for a Masters; and £295 for a Doctorate. Along with your certificate, you receive ‘any study material you may have ordered’ it adds, almost as an afterthought.

For most graduates of UK universities, securing a degree involves at least three years of study and thousands of pounds in student loans. Only universities with a Royal Charter or subject to an Act of Parliament are entitled to award degrees. But there is nothing to stop anybody in the UK claiming a degree from an overseas institution at the minimum expense and effort.

The contact name provided for Trinity College is a Dr A Peel-Bayley. When telephoned, he was unwilling to discuss the qualifications he was offering, and his assistant said: ‘He doesn’t talk to the press’.

In practice, the certificates he issues are unlikely to fool anybody into thinking a degree has come from one of the more famous Trinitys, such as Dublin, Oxford or Cambridge. Under the main heading, the Fuengirola Trinity is described as ‘part of the Educational Division of the UIC, incorporated in Dover, Delaware’. But at the very least, it does enable somebody to boast that they have a degree from Trinity College without lying.

Nor is this the only institution offering ‘non-traditional’ degrees. A number of other self-styled universities can be found on the internet offering degrees on the strength of work experience and other ‘credits’.

In some cases an association with bona fide educational bodies in the UK has been used to provide a spurious endorsement.

Cambridge Shire University welcomes potential students to its website with a picture of an attractive red-brick building with students relaxing on its manicured lawns. But no telephone number or address is given. And although it presents the image of a traditional campus-based university, the small print reveals Cambridge Shire offers mainly distance learning courses ‘that do not require the usual time and on-campus attendance’.

Degrees can be awarded, it says, on the basis of ‘transfer credits’ from previous academic work, ‘life learning credits’ derived from work experience, company training programmes and other sources, with any gaps to be made up from ‘course work study guides’.

Until recently, Cambridge Shire University boasted that it was ‘accredited by’ the United Kingdom Council for Graduate Education and the British Association for Open Learning, among others. But following inquiries by The Observer, Cambridge Shire has had its associate membership of the UKCGE – a reputable body whose members include the UK’s leading universities – withdrawn.

Administrator Elizabeth Long said: ‘They are not entitled to say they are accredited by us as we do not accredit universities.’ She added that Cambridge Shire’s membership had been cancelled following an executive meeting, and that the UKCGE ‘will introduce more rigorous checking of associate members in future’.

Cambridge Shire University’s address is an office suite in New York. Its President, Dr Anthony Alexander, insists the university does have a ‘small campus’ in Los Angeles.

His website also claims to offer studying opportunities at ‘New World College’ in London – but there is no such name listed in the telephone directory. Dr Alexander declined to give an address or telephone number or any details of his academic staff.

He says he intends to market Cambridge Shire in the UK once he has obtained accreditation from the Open University and the Open and Distance Learning Quality Council (ODLQC).

Trinity All Saints International University is another institution offering degrees based on experience rather than study. Although its website states that documentary evidence of such experience must be submitted to avoid fraud, it says a degree is usually awarded just 28 days after application. A Bachelors’ degree from this Trinity will set you back $800; a doctorate $1,000. Although it states that it is ‘chartered in the United States of America and legally incorporated in Wilmington, Delaware’, the only address given is a post office box number in Manchester, England.

Like Cambridge Shire University, Trinity International is a member of the British Association for Open Learning. BAOL says that membership entails a written commitment to support its own customer charter, which means providing a quality customer service.

When contacted by The Observer BAOL’s general manager, Brian Merison, said he had reviewed the websites of both Cambridge Shire and Trinity International and ‘found their using forms of words regarding their membership of BAOL which does not comply with our customer charter’.

But should BAOL allow this type of organisation to be a member in the first place?

Merison says: ‘In general, it is not acceptable for qualifications to be awarded without any programme of study or examination process – in open learning or any other form of learning. There may be exceptions depending on the level of the award and the way in which this is presented.’ He says BAOL is reviewing how it deals with membership of international and online universities.

Trinity International also claims accreditation from an organisation called the International Accreditation for Universities, Colleges, Institutes (Iauci). On its website, that organisation prominently displays the British Council logo, but the British Council says it has no association with Iauci, and after legal advice has written to demand the withdrawal of its logo.

So how big a problem is the buying and selling of degrees? The Department for Education and Skills has issued a ‘Bogus Degree Warning’ on its website, which states that ‘it is an offence to offer a degree which could be taken to be that of a recognised UK institution’.

It is not an offence for overseas organisations to offer degrees accredited from overseas, says the department. However, ‘the UK authorities are unable to vouch for the quality of these qualifications, many of which involve no formal study’.

A spokeswoman for Universities UK says that although it is a problem UK universities are aware of, ‘it is not perceived as a huge issue, because in our view, there are checks in place employers can use if they want to check the provenance of a degree’.

Victoria Gill, adviser to the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development, says: ‘Many more occupations are now moving into graduate careers, so the number of jobs where you need a degree is getting wider and wider.’ But she says qualifications are only a part of the recruitment process and human resources personnel should always check references and ask to see degree certificates. Yet the fact that websites offering degrees without study continue to thrive suggests that they are not short of customers.

Overseas students are particularly vulnerable to being taken in. As Suzanne Alexander, promotions director at the British Council, puts it: ‘Students want to believe that a qualification gives them what they are looking for, which is international recognition and making them employable.’

Not all, she says, know where to look to find out if a qualification is recognised in the UK.

For organisations offering ‘non-traditional’ degrees, accreditation of any kind is a priceless currency. UK academic institutions have an urgent responsibility to ensure that their name is not wrongly used to provide endorsement.

    · A list of institutions authorised to award degrees in the UK is on the DFES website

Exchange Server 2007: Managing And Filtering Anti-Spam Agent Logs

    by Bharat Suneja

Exchange 2007 includes a number of anti-spam agents to filter spam. The anti-spam agents log their actions in (anti-spam) agent logs. The default agent log locations:

    • Exchange 2010: \Exchange Server\V14\TransportRoles\Logs\AgentLog
    • Exchange 2007: \Exchange Server\TransportRoles\Logs\AgentLog

    Agent Log Configuration

You can t change the agent log location. Here are the available config options:

    1. Enable/Disable agent log: On transport servers with anti-spam agents installed, agent logging is enabled by default. You can disable it by adding the AgentLogEnabled key, and setting it to FALSE.
    2. Max file size: By default, the maximum file size of each agent log is 10 Mb (10485760 bytes). You can modify it by adding AgentLogMaxFileSize key and providing the desired value (in bytes). Parsing very large log files can be slower the default max file size works for most deployments.
    3. Max directory size. By default, the size of the directory is capped at 250 Mb (262144000 bytes). You can modify it by adding the AgentLogMaxDirectorySize key and providing the desired value (in bytes). In a high volume environment, you must consider the volume of log files generated in a day, and determine the space required based on how many days worth of log files you want to retain for troubleshooting or to meet your organization s retention requirements.
    4. Agent log age: The age of a log is capped at 30 days. You can modify it by adding the AgentLogMaxAge key and providing the desired value. Logs are flushed when they re older than the AgentLogMaxAge. or if the directory size reaches the AgentLogMaxDirectorySize (250 Mb by default), whichever happens first. If it s important to maintain agent logs for a certain number of days, you must consider the volume of logs generated daily, and raise the AgentLogMaxDirectorySize if required.

Exchange 2007 RTM has only one configuration option for the agent log that to enable or disable it. Exchange Server 2007 SP1 includes the additional configuration parameters listed above to control the max directory size, file size and age of agent logs added.

The agent log configuration parameters can be controlled by editing the EdgeTransport.exe.config file, located in \Exchange Server\Bin folder on Edge and Hub Transport servers.

Note, the key names in EdgeTransport.exe.config are case-sensitive.

    Disable agent logging

To disable agent logging, insert the following key under appsettings /appsettings in the config file:

    add key= AgentLogEnabled value= FALSE /

    Modify agent log configuration

In the following example, we modify max directory size to 500 Mb, file size to 20 Mb, and age to 60 days, by creating new keys in EdgeTransport.exe.config :

    add key= AgentLogMaxDirectorySize value= 524288000 /
    add key= AgentLogMaxFileSize value= 20971520 /

    Parsing the agent log

You can parse the agent log using the Get-AgentLog command from the shell.

By default, the Get-AgentLog cmdlet parses agent logs in the default location ( \Exchange Server\TransportRoles\Logs\AgentLog ). Depending on your troubleshooting and log retention requirements, you can move older files to an another location. To parse agent logs in an alternate location, you must specify the path. In this example, the agent logs have been copied to Z:\Antispam Agent Logs directory:

    Get-AgentLog -location Z:\AntiSpam Agent Logs

    Agent log format and fields

Agent log file names are named AGENTLOGyyyymmdd-nnnn.log. It s easy to decipher yyyy stands for the year, mm is the month, and dd is the date. The nnnn is a serial number, starting at 0001, rolled over when more than one log is generated in a day. The date is UTC.

Each agent log starts with the following header fields:

    #Software: Microsoft Exchange Server
    #Log-type: Agent Log
    #Date: 2010-08-07T00:00:01.500Z
    #Fields: Timestamp,SessionId,LocalEndpoint,RemoteEndpoint,EnteredOrgFromIP,

Here s what an entry in the agent log looks like, as output by the Get-AgentLog cmdlet. Note, not all fields are displayed by default when you use the cmdlet:

    Timestamp. 4/16/2007 12:39:49 AM
    SessionId. 08C948C83FB951AC
    MessageId :
    P1FromAddress. [email protected]
    P2FromAddresses. <>
    Recipients. [email protected] >
    Agent. Connection Filtering Agent
    Event. OnRcptCommand
    Action. RejectCommand
SmtpResponse. 550 5.7.1 Recipient not authorized, your IP has been found on a block list
    Reason. BlockListProvider
    ReasonData. Spamhaus SBL-XBL

As seen in the above output, the logs provide adequate information for reporting on anti-spam activity, as well as for troubleshooting anti-spam issues like messages not being received/wrongly filtered out.

Getting to know the agent logs will make troubleshooting such issues much easier.

    Searching agent logs

By default, the Get-AgentLog command returns all the entries in the agent logs. This can take a long time and results in all entries scrolling by quickly in your shell window. The only filtering options available with the Get-AgentLog cmdlet are start and end dates.

    Filter by date and time

Agent logs can be constrained to a particular date and time the recommended way to perform most agent log searches, unless you want to immerse yourself in 30 days (or 250 Mb) of anti-spam goodness! This is done using the -StartDate and -EndDate parameters, as shown in this example:

    Get-AgentLog -StartDate 4/16/2007 -EndDate 4/17/2007

You can also constrain it further by adding time of the day :

    Get-AgentLog -StartDate 4/17/2007 8:00 AM -EndDate 4/17/2007 2:00 PM

Search messages by recipients and senders

Although the Get-AgentLog command only takes these 3 parameters location, StartDate, and EndDate, you can further filter the logs using most of its logged fields by using pipelining.

To filter the log to show messages to a particular recipient :

To search for messages from a particular sender :

Search messages from a sender domain

To search for messages from a particular domain :

Search messages filtered by a specified anti-spam agent

To filter by the anti-spam agent that acted on a message, e.g. Connection Filtering Agent:

Similarly, you can filter by other agents that write to the agent logs: 1) Content Filter Agent 2) SenderID agent 3) Sender Filter agent 4) Recipient Filter agent and 5) Edge Rules agent.

    Searching by IP address

To filter agent logs by the sending host s IP address. use the following command:

    Get-AgentLog -StartDate 4/15/2007 -EndDate 4/17/2007 | where <$_.IPAddress -eq >

    Search messages blocked by RBLs

The reason field in each log entry specifies the reason supplied by the anti-spam agent that takes the action. For instance, as seen in the agent log entry shown earlier in this article, the agent that acted on the message is the Connection Filtering Agent. the reason is BlockListProvider (i.e. RBL or Real-time Block List , known as IP Block Lists in Exchange Server 2007). The ReasonData field gives you the name of the IP Block List Provider. as configured in Exchange. In the above agent log entry, it is Spamhaus SBL-XBL . To constrain the search for messages blocked by IP Block List Providers :

    Get-AgentLog -StartDate 4/15/2007 -EndDate 4/17/2007 | where <$_.Reason -eq BlockListProvider >

To get a list of all IP addresses blocked by IP Block List Providers :

    Get-AgentLog -StartDate 12/21/2007 | where <$_.Reason -eq BlockListProvider > | ft Timestamp,IPAddress,ReasonData

You can also look for messages blocked by a particular IP Block List Povider :

    Search by SCL thresholds

For messages scanned by the Content Filter Agent, the Reason field contains details like SCLAtOrAboveDeleteThreshold, SCLAtOrAboveRejectThreshold. etc. The ReasonData field contains the SCL value assigned to the message. To get a list of messages above the SCLDeleteThreshold. use the following command:

As shown in the above examples, you can use the Get-AgentLog command and pipe the data to filter it based on the fields logged. You can get more details about agent logs including the fields logged, from the Managing Agent Logging section in Exchange Server 2007 documentation.

    Event 6398 – TimerJobDefinition exception #sharepoint #central #administration #port

    # Anything for sysadmins!

    Log Name: Application
    Source: Microsoft-SharePoint Products-SharePoint Foundation
    Event ID: 6398
    Task Category: Timer
    Level: Critical
    User: domain.local\spfarm
    Computer: server.domain.local
The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPSqmTimerJobDefinition (ID d470d42a-3a3e-46c2-8c54-98a33d11bec7) threw an exception. More information is included below.
Data is Null. This method or property cannot be called on Null values.

This error is obviously caused by the SharePoint Timer Service. This job doesn t run properly because the data is Null. To find the cause of the error you ll first have to find the Time Job that is causing it. In my case it was the CEIP Data Collection (Customer Experience Improvement Program).

    1. Go to the SharePoint Central Administration
    2. Click Monitoring
    3. Then click Review job definitions in the Timer Jobs section
    4. Find the Job that is causing the exception by hovering over the links and checking the GUID in there
    5. Click the job and click Disable

The error should now be gone!

    Many thanks solved my issue

Thanks a lot worked for me.

The specificism of this error null data helped me as none of the microsoft tech net articles relating to Sharepoint health checking referenced this type of error. It is frankly appalling that a Microsoft Data Gathering agent for their improvement program finding no data is reported as a critical error.

In my case, even though this was not having any operational effect at all, my Customer refused to pay citing the implementation as not complete until this alert was resolved. Didn t take long to fix and thanks for the clarity of this article.
