GED Science Short Answer Sample Responses

These are sample responses for our GED Science Short Answer practice questions. The sample response for Question #1 is a level 3 response, which is the highest score you can get. The sample response for Question #2 is a level 2 response. Below each of these examples is an evaluation which explains the scoring in detail.

GED Science Short Answer Sample Response 1

The glaciers of the world are shrinking at an increasing rate. As the graph indicates, the cumulative volume change of the world’s glacier mass has more than doubled its decline between 1990 and 2010. It is reasonable to infer that the volume change has continued to drop at an increasing rate since 2010. The decrease in glacier-size is partially to do with natural climate change. For example, the “ice-floods” mentioned in the passage would be unlikely to form today. However, the passage states that the “grand continuous mantles of ice” that make up parts of Greenland and Alaska are continually decreasing, leading to the assumption that the decrease in glacier size is continuous and potentially irreversible.

The melting may partially account for the fact that some glaciers are closer to sea level than others. The passage mentions that the “largest of the Sierra glaciers on Mount Shasta descends to within 9500 feet of the level of the sea.” It may be true that as glaciers descend they melt at a faster rate. This may in part account for the higher glacier melting rates worldwide. However, overall, the data presented suggests that the overall trend of the world’s glaciers is to decrease in size, with no concrete evidence that such decline can be forestalled or prevented.

Sample Response #1 Evaluation:

This response would have received a (3). The author states a clear position of the topic in the first sentence and then supports that main idea with several details from the passage, including data from the graph and two quotations. The logic is clear and the paragraphs flow nicely with no awkward transitions. There are no major grammatical or spelling errors, which indicates the author proofread the response before submitting it. This well-developed response fully develops the prompt with complete support from the passage and graphic, and thus earns all three possible points.

GED Science Short Answer Sample Response 2

Darwin combated the belief that great changes would be necessary to explain the origin of species. He didn’t fully understand the idea of variability, but he contributed to it a lot. Darwin though that it was necessary to comprehend his idea of different species. As the passage states, “His theory of natural selection is based on the fact of variability.” Darwin showed that variability was based on a gradation of tiny variations, one building upon the other. He noticed a “good many small fluctutions” that other scientists had not paid attention to. Darwin was ahead of his time and paved the way for future genetic scientists.

Sample Response #2 Evaluation:

This response would have received a “2.” It does a good job of using detail from the passage to prove a main point: Darwin contributed to variability. However, it does so in a somewhat clunky manner. It would have been better if the author had analyzed the quotations used from the passage in more detail, and organized his or her thoughts in multiple paragraphs. In addition, the word “fluctuations” is misspelled, which indicates a lack of proofreading. This response is only 5 sentences, which is not by itself a problem, but a slightly more developed response would have probably scored slightly higher.

Elementary Teacher Interview Questions and How to Answer It, answer questions.com.#Answer #questions.com

What to Expect in Your Elementary Teacher Job Interview

Answer questions.comWhat questions will they ask you? How to make a good impression on the hiring committee? What decides the winner at the end?

Simply, how to prepare for this challenging experience and walk away with a coveted job contract for an elementary teacher? We will try to answer this question on our website that specializes only in elementary teacher interviews.

Written by Glen Hughins, Consultant at Educational Recruitment Agency Meridian and a Professional Interview Coach.

What questions will they ask you?

(Clicking a question will direct you to a new page, where we analyze and answer that particular question.)

  • Why do you want to become an elementary teacher? (Why did you choose career in teaching? Why did you decide to study teaching?)
  • What do you want to accomplish on this position? (What will make you happy with your daily job?
  • Where do you see yourself in five years time? (How long do you want to work here as a teacher? What are your career plans for the future?)
  • What characterize a good teacher from your point of view?
  • Can you name the main problems teachers face nowadays? (How would you address the challenges we face at schools right now?)
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses? (What makes you a good teacher?)
  • Answer questions.comHow would you approach the students of the first class, on their first day at school? (What would you say? How would you prepare for this day?)
  • What teaching methods do you prefer, and why do you prefer them? (Your best and worst experience with various teaching methods?)
  • Do you think that we should treat all students equally, or we should approach every student individually, taking into account their individual abilities and predispositions to study?
  • How would you improve the study environment in your class?
  • Imagine that a father of a students complained about something which was untrue. How would you react? (What would you do? Did you experience the situation before?)
  • What is your opinion on information technology at elementary school? (Should students use computers? Should teachers use computers?)
  • What is your opinion about foreign language subjects at the elementary?
  • How would you handle the conflict between students? (Have you ever solved a conflict? Have you ever had a conflict with your students before?)
  • What do you consider the toughest aspect of this job? (Is there anything you hate about teaching?)
  • What are your hobbies? (What do you like to do in your free time?)
  • What games would you play with your students, and why would you choose those games, and not other one?
  • How would you win the hearts of your students?
  • When can you start working here?
  • Do you have any questions?
  • Building relationships in the interview

Answer questions.comAs you can see, they will try to assess your skills and readiness for the job with personal, situational, behavioral, and technical questions. On the other hand, people sitting in hiring committees at schools do not excel in HR. It just isn t their main field of expertise . Personal preferences will play a rolein your interview (how important they are depends on the particular hiring committee).

Said in other words, if they like you as a person, you will have a better chances than the other candidates who also meet the basic criteria for the job, and present at least decent answers to their questions.

How can you build relationship in an interview?

Pre-interview research will help you a lot. Try to learn something about the goals, visions, and achievements of the educational institution. Try to identify something which they should be proud of. Then you can talk about it in an interview, showing recognition and respect to the people sitting in the hiring committee. That s a great first step to build some relationship with the people, in the course of your interview.

Demonstrate your teaching skills in a mocked lesson

Mock lessons are very popular in the interviews at elementary schools. Interviewers will give you a simple subject to teach such as basic mathematics, or even just writing letters of the alphabet. They ask you to show how you d teach the lesson, and they will observe the way you explain things, and approach the students. You should always accept to mock the lesson if you did otherwise, complaining about lack of preparation or anything else, they would not hire you.

Try to be yourself when mocking the lesson, show positive attitude, and teach as you would normally teach in a classroom. The key is to show that you can work systematically, prepare for the lessons, and enjoy teaching.

    Specialized guide for your preparation

Success or failure in this interview depends on many factors. Your ability to sell your skills in an interview, your answers to the questions they ask you, the impression you make on the people sitting in the hiring committee, the mock lesson, the quality of other job candidates who compete with you for the job.

If you d like to learn the winning interview strategies, and brilliant answers to twenty five most common interview questions for elementary teachers, consider having a look at my eBook, Elementary Teacher Interview Guide. Step by step, we will address all issues and challenges of an interview. ABOUT THE GAME KENKEN

MathDoku is a mathematical and logical puzzle based on KenKen and loosely similar to sudoku.

Puzzles can be solved by combining the four main mathematical functions of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. To train the brain the puzzles are offered without any instruction. There are important keys to be found but no fixed starting place and no method of progression that can be learned as a strategy. The brain is forced to dart between competing theories. It’s impossible to solve puzzles without the scientific process of trial and error and that’s the rationale behind these puzzles.

KenKen was invented by a Japanese mathematics teacher Tetsuya Miyamoto and introduced to The Times via Robert Fuhrer of Nextoy and Chess Champion Dr. David Levy and recognized for its depth and magnitude by The Times features editor, Mr. Michael Harvey. KenKen brain training puzzles are a trademark of Nextoy, LLC. Toy inventor Robert Fuhrer, founder of Nextoy, discovered KenKen (aka KEN-KEN) in Japan as the original books published by educational publisher Gakken Co., Ltd. as Kashikoku naru Puzzle, and has been instrumental in introducing them to the western world.

    ABOUT US

This KenKen adventure started in late November 2008.

My girlfriend found the game KenKen in a local newspaper. Having both been fans of sudoku (although she was significantly better than me), we immediately took a liking and interest to this new type of game. We played KenKen games as often as we could and always looked for the local newspaper to play another game, especially when we were at coffee shops where newspapers were plentiful and many times free.

This interest rapidly grew into an obsession. Newspaper versions were not enough. A quick search of the interwebs yielded few results and proved ineffective as KenKen printable versions burned a lot of consumables like paper, ink, and electricity (we’re trying to live a little greener). To ease the addiction, we set out to make our own interactive, online version. And in less than a month the initial site, http://www.webkendoku.com/, was born. Shortly afterwards, in February 2009, we were notified by Robert Fuhrer that the use of “kendoku” in the domain name infringed on their trademark of “KenDoKu “. To avoid any legal disputes, WebKendoku.com closed as we transitioned to this new site. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you enjoy this site and the game as much as we do.

But, we could not have possibly done it alone.
