WikiAnswers – Why did Germany not invade Sweden in World War 2 #answer #to #life #wikianswers # During the invasion of Scandinavia, Sweden kept neutral, but because much of their income was generated by exporting iron, they continued to sell it to Nazi Germany. Sweden would not help Finland fight off the Soviet attack, but 8,000 Swedes volunteered for the Finnish army. Sensing the impending trouble, nearly everyone in the country pitched in to bolster the Swedish defense lines. The meager Swedish army nearly doubled overnight from volunteers and by wars end tripled from that. Civilians built shelters, scanned the skies for enemy aircraft, donated time and money and made military vehicles and supplies. Germany told Sweden to stay neutral, but “pro-German,” meaning they would have to abide by Germanys demands. The Swedes would not listen to Germanys threats and told them if Sweden was invaded they would blow up the iron ore mines. Although Sweden was surrounded by chaotic war, its citizens led relatively normal lives. However, every Swedish family was affected by it because so many civilians were called into the military reserves. After Germany conquered Denmark and Norway they blockaded Sweden from the outside, forcing Sweden to deal exclusively with Germany. This imposed terrible food and supply shortages, but the resilient Swedes made the best out of a bad situation. They pushed their food production to the limit and used enormous amounts of timber for countless by-products. Censorship was rampant and anti-German and anti-Communist sentiments abounded, which was only compounded when Swedens King Gustav V let Germany move their troops across Swedish land. Hitler did not invade Sweden because he did not want to waste valuable troops in Scandinavia when he had other concerns. The Swedes proved their neutrality by not letting Germany use Swedish airspace: when the Germans flew over Sweden to attack Norway, the Swedes fired back with anti-aircraft guns. The Swedish reluctance to bend under German pressure infuriated Hitler, but he had more important things to worry about–the invasion of western Europe. Hitler did not invade Sweden because Sweden was traditonally a neutral country for over 200 years and Hitler did not want to bother Sweden when he already had Norway, a more strategically located nation. Germany was already receiving iron ore from Sweeden on a cash and carry basis. Germany also needed a neutral country as a conduit for goods and foreign currency, and a stage for negotiations and an outlet to the world. As bizarre as it sounds, some goods and materials were purchased by neutral 3rd countries from Allied nations (the US for example) and sold to the Germans via Sweeden. Why should they? The Swedes were willing to trade freely with Germany, offered no great strategic improvement to Germany should they be occupied, and had a military that was of no threat to any of its neighbors. Contrast this with Russia which had a highly aggressive and expansionist military and political system. Occupation of their territory was Germany’s PRIMARY goal in WWII. Also, Stalin, while willing at times to trade vital materials with Germany was extremely unreliable and would have cut off trade when he thought it would best leverage the Soviet position. Only nations that posed a threat to Germany, one way or the other, were attacked by the Germans. Despite popular mythology to the contrary, Germany was not on a rampage to take over the world in WWII. They were interested in improving their national security and sought to do this via military means. Because of its geographic location it was not strategically important, it had no vital resources they wanted to steal and since the Swedes are Nordics the Nazis did not want to eliminate them. Michael Montagne “since the Swedes are Nordics the Nazis did not want to eliminate them.” People being Nordic did not stop them invading Norway. Sweden actually did provide Germany with iron ore throughout most of the war. The Swedes were cooperative with the Germans (while they were still powerful) knowing full well they were at risk of invasion otherwise. As long as they cooperated the germans had no need to launch a costly invasion. The invasion of Norway was to: Protect the shipping route for Swedish iron from any Allied interdiction. Actually, this question should be in one of the top positions in questions asked. Sweden provided steel to the nazis, the even provided their railways to them when they invaded Norway. There are many documents on the net and documentaries aired on swedish state television regarding the “swedish-nazi” cooperation during WWII. It was not by chance that Sweden was Europes richest nation at the end of WWII. Today, pro-nazi sentiments still exist making Sweden the No.1 country in the world for self-declared nazis pro-capita. they even have their own political party which is allowed to exist despite WWII and despite present and on-going acts of violence and brutality towards non-native/immigrant individuals. Alot is hush-hush and very little is mentioned in the papers. racism is a problem which unfortunately is underplayed. To be factual..there race or neo-nazi related crimes in Stockholm everyday but they are often just reported for the “text-book” crimes that are committed and the fact that the individuals perpetrating these crimes are neo-nazis and in most of the cases are not first-time offenders is simply omitted. Im half Swedish and have been wondering about that question forever. Sweden did help Norway when they were invaded. They made a sort of underground resistance with Norway. If a German pilot crashed in Sweden then the Swedes would put him in jail, but if an Allied pilot crashed in Sweden they would let him walk about freely. My grandfather says he rembered seeing a few Allied pilots at some parties in Sweden. What I dont get is that why would Sweden help Norway and also provide the Nazis with iron because if they got caught things could go downhill very fast with the Germans. sweden had really bad with military units during this time but they played it smart. they took almost all of their units and walkt along the danish line so they germans sholud see thet they had many military (witch they didnt have) and when they had walkt along the line they walked like a D after they had walked with the line they walked back over the land and walked beside the line again :). and german got ALOT of iron from sweden and was afraid thet if they got bad with sweden they shold loose the war becaus they hadent enough iron to built weapons for. The reason Sweden wasnt invaded were because the germans needed their troops elsewhere. Germany had planned to attack Sweden several times during world war II, last time was in 1944 when they planned to shoot Vi and V2 rockets against Stockholm from Norway. As the swedish military grew and became stronger Sweden started to say no to German demands and cutting down on the iron ore export. Ways to contribute: 1. World English Bible But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear: Young’s Literal Translation and the Lord God sanctify in your hearts. And be ready always for defence to every one who is asking of you an account concerning the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; Matthew Henry Commentary 3:14-22 We sanctify God before others, when our conduct invites and encourages them to glorify and honour him. What was the ground and reason of their hope? We should be able to defend our religion with meekness, in the fear of God. There is no room for any other fears where this great fear is; it disturbs not. The conscience is good, when it does its office well. That person is in a sad condition on whom sin and suffering meet: sin makes suffering extreme, comfortless, and destructive. Surely it is better to suffer for well-doing than for evil-doing, whatever our natural impatience at times may suggest. The example of Christ is an argument for patience under sufferings. In the case of our Lord’s suffering, he that knew no sin, suffered instead of those who knew no righteousness. The blessed end and design of our Lord’s sufferings were, to reconcile us to God, and to bring us to eternal glory. He was put to death in respect of his human nature, but was quickened and raised by the power of the Holy Spirit. If Christ could not be freed from sufferings, why should Christians think to be so? God takes exact notice of the means and advantages people in all ages have had. As to the old world, Christ sent his Spirit; gave warning by Noah. But though the patience of God waits long, it will cease at last. And the spirits of disobedient sinners, as soon as they are out of their bodies, are committed to the prison of hell, where those that despised Noah’s warning now are, and from whence there is no redemption. Noah’s salvation in the ark upon the water, which carried him above the floods, set forth the salvation of all true believers. That temporal salvation by the ark was a type of the eternal salvation of believers by baptism of the Holy Spirit. To prevent mistakes, the apostle declares what he means by saving baptism; not the outward ceremony of washing with water, which, in itself, does no more than put away the filth of the flesh, but that baptism, of which the baptismal water formed the sign. Not the outward ordinance, but when a man, by the regeneration of the Spirit, was enabled to repent and profess faith, and purpose a new life, uprightly, and as in the presence of God. Let us beware that we rest not upon outward forms. Let us learn to look on the ordinances of God spiritually, and to inquire after the spiritual effect and working of them on our consciences. We would willingly have all religion reduced to outward things. But many who were baptized, and constantly attended the ordinances, have remained without Christ, died in their sins, and are now past recovery. Rest not then till thou art cleansed by the Spirit of Christ and the blood of Christ. His resurrection from the dead is that whereby we are assured of purifying and peace. Proverbs 15:28 The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, But the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things. Proverbs 22:21 To make you know the certainty of the words of truth That you may correctly answer him who sent you? Isaiah 5:16 But the LORD of hosts will be exalted in judgment, And the holy God will show Himself holy in righteousness. Isaiah 8:12 “You are not to say, ‘It is a conspiracy!’ In regard to all that this people call a conspiracy, And you are not to fear what they fear or be in dread of it. Colossians 4:6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. 2 Timothy 2:25 He must gently reprove those who oppose him, in the hope that God may grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1 Peter 1:17 Since you call on a Father who judges each man’s work impartially, live your lives in reverent fear during your temporary stay on earth. You ve certainly generated a huge response. One thing I ve noticed that I find both interesting and disturbing in many of the answers is the immediate reference to a certain description of President Obama. Perhaps others have picked up on this as well. There s just something about him that makes him different from the other presidents. Gosh, I just can t imagine what THAT could be. Seriously, folks, WHY is that the very first thing that comes to many people s minds when asked what they think about President Obama? What about his accomplishments? His classiness? His coolness? His poise? But nooooo. the first thing we say is, Oh, he was black Really. This is ALL that maters or comes to mind when you think about him? When I think of President Obama, I think of a man of great class. This guy is cool! He has quite the sense of humor. The country s economy was in quite the mess when he first came into office. A certain group of people (Gosh, I can t imagine WHO) put up one roadblock after another, after another in an attempt to make this guy look bad. That s been their plan. Whatever he was for, they were against. It did not matter if some of his plans were actually very good plans that would benefit the American people. Because these were his plans, they were against them. Then they had the nerve to turn around and try to say, What has President Obama ever done for this country? Not a thing! That s been their agenda all along. They wanted him to look bad. But they have FAILED. Despite of all those road blocks, I think President Obama has done quite an amazing job in turning things around compared to how they were when he first took office. Is there still work to be done? Is there room for improvement? Absolutely! The work must go forward. I cringe to think what this country would look like today if the previous president was still in power. One of our presidential candidates has the slogan, Make America Great Again . My question is, Isn t America ALREADY great? I believe it is. No, President Obama isn t perfect. Do you know anybody who is? I don t. You cannot please all of the people all of the time, and I believe President Obama is well aware of that. He has faced a LOT of criticism, probably more than many past presidents. Some of the criticism might be warranted, but I believe a lot of it is not. Some of the blatant displays of disrespect towards him, which I think is undeserving, have been way beyond what other presidents have experienced, and yet, look how he s handled it; He is a man of class. I am grateful to have lived during the time when he was our president. Order of operations Fractions Worksheets #free #answers #to #questions #math answers free # Fractions Worksheets Fractions Worksheets Sub-Topics Welcome to the fractions worksheets page at Math-Drills.com where the cup is half full! This is one of our more popular pages most likely because learning fractions is incredibly important in a person’s life and it is a math topic that many approach with trepidation due to its bad rap over the years. Fractions really aren’t that difficult to master especially with the support of our wide selection of worksheets. This page includes Fractions worksheets for understanding fractions including modeling, comparing, ordering, simplifying and converting fractions and operations with fractions. We start you off with the obvious: modeling fractions. It is a great idea if students can actually understand what a fraction is, so please do spend some time with the modeling aspect. Relating modeling to real life helps a great deal too as it is much easier to relate to half a cookie than to half a square. Ask most students what you get if you add half a cookie and another half a cookie, and they’ll probably let you know that it makes one delicious snack. The other fractions worksheets on this page are devoted to helping students understand the concept of fractions. From comparing and ordering to simplifying and converting. by the time students master the material on this page, operations of fractions will be a walk in the park. Most Popular Fractions Worksheets this Week Multiplying and Dividing Fractions (A) Adding and Subtracting Mixed Fractions (A) Adding Fractions with Unlike Denominators (A) Converting Mixed Fractions to Improper Fractions (A) Adding and Subtracting Fractions — No Mixed Fractions (A) Simplify Proper Fractions to Lowest Terms (Harder Version) (A) Converting Fractions to Terminating and Repeating Decimals (A) Missing Numbers in Equivalent Fractions (A) Multiplying and Dividing Mixed Fractions (A) Subtracting Fractions with Unlike Denominators (A) General Use Fractions Printables General use fractions printables that are used in a variety of contexts when understanding and calculating fractions. The black and white fraction circles can be used as a manipulative to compare fractions. Photocopy the worksheet onto an overhead projection slide. Use a pencil to lightly color the appropriate circle to represent the first fraction on the paper copy. Use a non-permanent overhead pen to color the appropriate circle to represent the second fraction. Lay the slide over the paper and compare the two circles. You should easily be able to tell which is greater or lesser or if the two fractions are equal. Re-use both sheets by erasing the pencil and washing off the marker. Fraction strips can be laminated for durability and cut out to compare, order, add and subtract fractions. They are very useful for comparing fractions. You can also copy the fractions strips onto overhead projection slides and cut them out. Not only will they be durable, they will also be transparent which is useful when used in conjunction with paper versions (e.g. for comparing fractions). Comparing Ordering Fractions Worksheets Comparing and ordering fractions worksheets for learning about the relative sizes of fractions. There are many different strategies other than staring at the page that will help in comparing fractions. Try starting with something visual that will depict the fractions in question. We highly recommend our fraction strips (scroll up a bit). Using a straight edge like a ruler or book or folding will help students to easily see which fraction is greater or if they are equal. We should also mention that the things that are compared should be the same. Each fraction strip for example is the same size whereas if you took a third of a watermelon and half of a grape, the watermelon would probably win out. Another strategy to use when comparing fractions is to use a number line and to use benchmarks like 0, 1, 1/2 to figure out where each fraction goes then see which one is bigger. Students actually do this one all the time since they can often compare fractions by recognizing that one is less than half and the other is greater than half. They might also see that one fraction is much closer to a whole than another fraction even though they might both be greater than a half. We’ll mention one other strategy, but there are more. This one requires a little bit more knowledge, but it works out well in the long run because it is a certain way of comparing fractions. Convert each fraction to a decimal and compare the decimals. Decimal conversions can be memorized (especially for the common fractions) calculated with long division or using a calculator or look-up table. We suggest the latter since using a look-up table often leads to mental recall. Comparing simple fractions. Comparing Simple and Improper Fractions Comparing Simple, Improper and Mixed Fractions Many of the same strategies that work for comparing fractions also work for ordering fractions. Using manipulatives such as fraction strips, using number lines, or finding decimal equivalents will all have your student(s) putting fractions in the correct order in no time. We’ve probably said this before, but make sure that you emphasize that when comparing or ordering fractions, students understand that the whole needs to be the same. Comparing half the population of Canada with a third of the population of the United States won’t cut it. Try using some visuals to reinforce this important concept. Even though we’ve included number lines below, feel free to use your own strategies. Ordering fractions with easy denominators on a Number Line. Ordering fractions with all denominators on a Number Line. Simplifying Converting Fractions Worksheets Simplifying fractions and converting fractions to other number formats worksheets to give students some necessary skills for more complex fractions topics. Learning how to simplify fractions makes a student’s life much easier later on when learning operations with fractions. It also helps them to learn that different-looking fractions can be equivalent. One way of demonstrating this is to divide out two equivalent fractions. For example 3/2 and 6/4 both result in a quotient of 1.5 when divided. By practicing simplifying fractions, students will hopefully recognize unsimplified fractions when they start adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing with fractions. Converting fractions to other fractions . Order of Operations with Fractions . As with other order of operation worksheets, the fractions order of operations worksheets require some pre-requisite knowledge. If your students struggle with these questions, it probably has more to do with their ability to work with fractions than the questions themselves. Observe closely and try to pin point exactly what pre-requisite knowledge is missing then spend some time going over those concepts/skills before proceeding. Otherwise, the worksheets below should have fairly straight-forward answers and shouldn’t result in too much hair loss. Order of Operations with Fractions Decimals . We having been using Odysseyware for our high school students for a couple years now. We had switch from something called Novanet because we kept having problems. Odysseyware was supposed to be better but we are still having issues. Kids can get to the site but then they can not log in or they have trouble doing there work. We have opened ports and websites that Odysseyware requires but we continue to have problems. Our high school is connected via a point to point wifi which could be a bottleneck but we doubt it because our KAP building is connected via fiber back to our servers and they experience the same problems. I figured I would see if anyone else in the spiceworks world is having problem with Odysseyware and see what you did to fix it or if you are still having trouble and just getting the run around from there tech support as well. We are at a bit of a loss as to what the problem may be. We do have firefox installed computers so they can use it but they have trouble regardless of whether they use firefox or IE. Any input is appreciated and thanks spiceheads for your time. We have a 20 Meg connection from our ISP and the last time we requested a usage chart. We never really topped out past 10 Megs of it. So we do not believe it is a bandwidth issue. Our main problems with Odysseyware is as follows. 1. During the morning hours students have problems even getting to the site. 2. Slow downs and lag throughout the day. 3. Not saving answers when students doing the course work. Maybe ask about recommended group policies we should be using or ones that may cause problems. If they have any particular problems with motherboard models. Intel D945GTP is the model our lab uses. Exceptions to URL or ports to the firewall or web filter. Maybe they neglected to let us know something. Have my doubts that we are missing anything here but could be wrong. Math word problems help deepen a student’s understanding of mathematical concepts and help the student relate mathematics to everyday life. Math word problems are now a critical part of the elementary school math curriculum. They are best attempted after a student has studied the underlying skill; for example, our ‘addition in columns” word problem worksheets should not be attempted until students are comfortable with addition in columns. All worksheets are printable pdf files. Addition word problems for third grade These addition word problem worksheets cover both simple addition and addition in columns, as well as some mixed addition and subtraction word problems. These third grade subtraction word problem worksheets cover simple subtraction and column form subtraction. These grade 3 multiplication word problem worksheets cover simple multiplication, multiplication by multiples of 10 and multiplication in columns as well as some mixed multiplication and division. Students should be reasonably proficient at multiplication in columns before attempting the more difficult problems. These third grade division word problem worksheets cover both simple division and long division. Long division questions are relatively simple (numbers 1-100) with answers expressed with remainders. Mixed 3rd grade word problems The following worksheets contain a mix of grade 3 addition, subtraction, multiplication and division word problems. Mixing math word problems is the ultimate test of understanding mathematical concepts, as it forces students to analyze the situation rather than mechanically apply a solution. An answer sheet is attached to each worksheet. The parent has the freedom to change the student’s schedule, provided it stays within the deadline for the course. Parents do not need to notify the academy of a school day that has been missed. If the student will not be working for a week or more, we do recommend informing the academy. Q: Can I use a dial-up or satellite Internet connection if I live in a remote area? A: We do not recommend using dial-up or satellite Internet connections because of frequent reports about the difficulty of transmitting schoolwork. However, if there is no other option, families may try if they can receive a stable Internet connection and are willing to assume the risk that it may prove unsatisfactory. They agreed to buy new seeds: Adam and Ben would go and Charlie stayed to protect fields. Ben bought 75 sacks of wheat in the market whereas Adam bought 45 sacks. At home, they split the sacks equally. Charlie had paid 1400 dollars for the wheat. How much dollars did Ben and Adam get of the sum, considering equal split of the sacks? Every farmer’s part is 1/3(45+75) = 40 sacks. Charlie paid$1400 for 40 sacks, then 1 sack costs $1400/40 =$35/sack.

Adam got $35*(45-40)=35*5 =$175.
Ben got $35*(75-40)=35*35 =$1225.
Answer: Ben $1225, Adam$175

Riddle 9

The Insurance Salesman

An insurance salesman walk up to house and knocks on the door. A woman answers, and he asks her how many children she has and how old they are. She says I will give you a hint. If you multiply the 3 children’s ages, you get 36. He says this is not enough information. So she gives a him 2 nd hint. If you add up the children’s ages, the sum is the number on the house next door. He goes next door and looks at the house number and says this is still not enough information. So she says she’ll give him one last hint which is that her oldest of the 3 plays piano.

Why would he need to go back to get the last hint after seeing the number on the house next door?

Because the sum of their ages ( the number on the house) is ambiguous and could refer to more than 1 trio of factors.

If you list out the trio of factors that multiply to 36 and their sums, you get.

• 1 1 36 = 38
• 1 2 18 = 21
• 1 3 12 = 16
• 1 4 9 = 14
• 6 6 1 = 13
• 2 2 9 = 13
• 2 3 6 = 11
• 3 3 4 = 10

Since the number on the house next door is not enough information there must be more than 1 factor trio that sums up to it, leaving two possibilities: < 6, 6, 1>. <2, 2, 9>. When she says her ‘oldest’ you know it can not be <6,6,1> since she would have two ‘older’ sons not an ‘oldest’.

Riddle 10

This is a famous one. The classic Monty hall riddle!

You are confronted by 3 doors. Behind one of them is a car, behind the two others, you will only see a goat. Now, if you correctly pick the car, you win the car. Otherwise, if you get one of the 2 goats, you don’t get the car.

So, pick any door. It doesn’t matter which one, but we will suppose that you picked door #2, as an example.

Now, after you have picked a door and before finding out what is actually behind it, you are shown a goat behind one of the other doors.(Remember there has to be a goat in 1 of the doors that you have not picked. )

Let’s say you choose door #2, as shown above. For example’s sake, let’s say there’s a goat in door 1. The question and the riddle is. should you switch the door that you picked? In other words, in this example, should you now choose door 3? Or, should you stick with your first choice (door #2)?

There actually is a mathematically correct answer to this riddle: You should indeed change your choice. If you don’t believe me, just try out our free online Monty hall simulation .

Riddle 11

If 9999 = 4, 8888 = 8, 1816 = 6, 1212 = 0, then 1919 =

Look at how many closed areas there are.

• 9999 has 4 closed areas (the top of the ‘9’)
• 8888 has 8 closed areas, the top and bottom parts of the 8 and there are no other digits
• 1816 has 3 closed areas, (top and bottom of 8 and bottom of 6, and it has 2 other digits ( 3*2=6)
• 1212 has 0 closed areas,(0*4=0)
Riddle 12

An athlete is able to jump FOREVER. However, everytime that she jumps she gets a bit more tired, and every jump goes $$\frac 1 2$$ as far as her prior jump. Now, for her very first jump, she goes $$\frac 1 2$$ of a foot.

On her second jump, she goes $$\frac 1 4$$ of a foot, and so on and so forth. The beginning of her journey is shown in the gif below.

How many jumps does it take for her to travel 1 foot?

She will never get to the 1 foot mark because you keep adding smaller and smaller amounts!

Other Good Riddles

Quick summary of riddle: Zeno of Elea (490-425 BC) is known for creating many paradoxes which were debated by mathematicians for centuries. His riddle involving Achilles, the character from Homer’s Iliad and a tortoise went something like:

The tortoise challenged Achilles to a race and Achilles, full of typical hubris, accepted and even gave the Tortoise a 10 foot head start. Before the race started, the tortoise told Achilles that the reason Achilles would lose is that even though Achilles would be catching up, the tortoise would always be moving ahead. Therefore, Achilles would always be covering a fraction of the distance between the two. Let’s say he covered half of the distance in 1 second (5 feet) and then in the next he covered half of the new distance, the remaining 5 feet plus the Tortoise’s new distance. In the end, the tortoise convinced Achilles that he could not win the race because although he would be getting closer and closer, he would still always be covering smaller and smaller fractions of the total distance between the two. Therefore, Achilles forfeited the race. To read this riddle in a modern narrative form click here .

WorkKeys

Educators

If students are going to be adequately prepared for the workforce, they need to understand the requirements for jobs they are considering. WorkKeys helps students determine the skill levels required for various jobs.

An increasing number of states are recognizing the importance of statewide WorkKeys testing, reexamining state standards and the content taught in high school to ensure that they focus on college and career readiness skills. The ACT ® test and WorkKeys assessments are recognized as the leading educational assessments for use in statewide testing.

States Using the ACT and WorkKeys

Public high school juniors take WorkKeys assessments in Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Locating Information under a program called Alaska Career Ready. The goal of Alaska Career Ready is to provide families with a free resource that helps them prepare their students for the world of work. Students are eligible to earn the ACT National Career Readiness Certificate.

Michigan
High school juniors take the Michigan Merit Exam (MME), which includes state-developed tests, the five tests in the ACT with writing, and the WorkKeys Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, and Locating Information assessments. Students are eligible to earn the National Career Readiness Certificate.

North Dakota
High school juniors are required to take either the four multiple-choice ACT tests or the WorkKeys Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, and Locating Information assessments. Students are eligible to earn the National Career Readiness Certificate.

Wyoming
High school juniors are required to take either the four multiple-choice ACT tests or the WorkKeys Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, and Locating Information assessments. The cost for either set of assessments for all students is paid by the state. Students are eligible to earn the National Career Readiness Certificate.

Workforce Developers

Partnering for a stronger workforce

Business executives and economic development consultants work to identify the best locations for expansion and relocation. The availability of skilled labor is a critical factor in making these decisions.

A growing number of states, communities, and organizations are choosing WorkKeys and the National Career Readiness Certificate as the foundation for career readiness initiatives that energize their economic development and workforce strategies.

Together WorkKeys and the NCRC help communities and economic developers:

• Encourage businesses to stay in the community
• Increase the tax base through more profitable business partners
• Decrease unemployment rates
• Improve the quality of life for community residents
• Provide focused education and training to meet both individual and organization goals

Industry Associations

ACT partners with associations and advocacy organizations representing the needs of industry sectors to develop national skills credentialing systems.

Using WorkKeys and the National Career Readiness Certificate as a foundation, industries can build credentialing systems, such as the Manufacturing Skills Certification System, that promote career pathways. After this, ACT research tools and analytic expertise can help inform ongoing skills development. This allows individuals to match their career development with evolving workplace needs.

The Manufacturing Institute

The National Career Readiness Certificate is the world-class market leader in ensuring young adults are equipped with the basic academic skills necessary to pursue additional education, training, and employment in the manufacturing industry. The partnership between the NAM and ACT is critically important to begin addressing the workforce crisis.

Emily Stover DeRocco, former president of The Manufacturing Institute and senior vice president of the National Association of Manufacturers.

The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER)

The WorkKeys assessments ACT has built and refined over almost 20 years of solid research in the workplace will help indicate that our trainees are ready and able to succeed. The assessments and the National Career Readiness Certificate provide a consistent measure of skill levels and help identify specific training needs.

The Center for Energy Workforce Development

It is imperative that we understand what it will take to get potential candidates properly trained and ready to move into entry-level positions as quickly as possible. ACT’s workforce development solutions, including WorkKeys assessments and the National Career Readiness Certificate, as well as their international reputation as a data-driven assessment firm, makes them an ideal partner for CEWD as we begin the process of building tomorrow’s energy workforce.

It was started in 2002 under the name “FAQ Farm: the question and answer co-op” by Chris Whitten. who is also the creator of this WikiTree site.

FAQ Farm was designed to enable anyone to post a question about anything. Then other users of the site could post answers. The questions and answers would be organized and stored in case future visitors had the same question or could contribute another answer. Over time, the Q As organically grew into FAQs Frequently Asked Questions and answers and became free information resources for anyone to use.

In 2004, the wiki software made popular by Wikipedia was customized for FAQ Farm. The basic Q A was still the same. But the new wiki technology made user collaboration much easier. Now you could edit and improve upon answers instead of just adding additional responses to a question. The site began to be known as “WikiFAQs” or “WikiAnswers.”

FAQ Farm continued to grow and improve over the years. By 2006 many other question and answer websites had emerged. The most famous was Yahoo Answers, which helped legitimize user-generated Q A for millions of people.

In late 2006, Chris Whitten approached Answers.com about purchasing WikiAnswers from him. It had become too large for one person to manage. In order to keep growing WikiAnswers would need a larger operation behind it, but Chris was not interested in growing his own company since he likes to work independently.

Thanks largely to the efforts of Answers.com’s Bruce Smith. the company acquired FAQ Farm on November 1, 2006. For the next year Chris Whitten managed WikiAnswers as an employee of Answers.com.

In March 2007 a major redesign of WikiAnswers was released. This completed the transition from the name “FAQ Farm” to the name “WikiAnswers”.

WikiAnswers traffic and usage exploded in 2007. According to comScore it was the fastest growing website among the largest 1,500 US sites. It was the fastest growing large US website again in 2008.

Answers.com gets close to 100 million unique visitors worldwide, the overwhelming majority of those visitors going to WikiAnswers.

March 2009 – 10,000,000 questions milestone.

February 2009 – 9,000,000 questions milestone.

August 2008 – 4,000,000 questions milestone.

Best answer: First, may I thank you, and also congratulate you for posting such an amazing, and appropriate question.

His poise? But nooooo. the first thing we say is, Oh, he was black

Really.

What do you want to know?

Clear your mind, center yourself, and form a mental picture of your question. What do you feel? What do you really need or want? What truly works for you? Take THE ORACLE’s answer as a mirror for your needs. Ask THE ORACLE, consult THE ORACLE, be THE ORACLE, and get the answers you need now. You can ask any YES or NO question.

Instead of an apple a day, maybe a better choice would be an oracle a day. With an oracle, you have a guide that can assist you in making those important life decisions. Why feel alone and anxious when the oracle’s mystical powers are waiting to help you discover a better life?

For thousands of years, people have depended upon an oracle to help them choose the best course of action. When you rely upon an oracle, you can ask questions about the past, present, or future. Find out what you should do about a perplexing personal problem or get the answers to those questions about your career. If there is something that you need help with, the oracle can help you make the right decision.

Belief in the oracle has been a key concept that has spurred many of the most famous people in history to achieve seemingly impossible goals. The divinations that were ascribed to oracles were not viewed as mere ramblings or coincidence. These revelations were believed to come directly from the gods and were taken very seriously. Today there are millions of individuals who depend upon these readings to help them plan their personal course through life.

Throughout history, the mysteries of the oracle have been recorded in most cultures and countries. In some instances, the oracle was accessed via one of the high-ranking priests or priestesses. At other times, there were certain landmarks that were designated as oracles.

Whether an oracle was described as a particular location or a specific person is not as important as its purpose. Oracles are defined as having a direct connection to the highest level of spiritual energy. This mystical portal permits the exchange of ideas and information between our human world and the spiritual dimension.

Divinations are a form of fortune telling, and there are many different ways that individuals can foretell the future. Mediums, oracles, crystal balls, tarot cards, and numerology are just a few of the methods that can be used to help unlock the mysteries of the universe.

Choose the oracle that you prefer and let the wisdom of the ages give you the self-empowerment that you deserve. The readings that are available will provide you with knowledge, enlightenment, and guidance that can build your confidence and self-realization. Your path through life does not have to be a cold and difficult journey. You have the power to make positive changes, and the oracle can lead you in the right direction.

Q: Do you have any notion as to whether or not there’s going to be a “color” limitation to the money? Is it going to be for FTE only, for no FTE at all, or something of that nature? Just want to make sure I weight the budget part accordingly. A: There will be a mix of FTE labor and procurement dollars in the awards; no award will be all procurement, though an award can be all FTE labor

Q: Will the CCT review my concept prior to submission to let me know if the topic is of interest and suitable for CIF consideration, or to critique my proposal so that I may strengthen it? A: This answer has two parts:

If you are concerned that your technology concept may not align with either the CCT-sponsored initiatives or any of the 14 STP roadmaps, recall that the solicitation does indicate that CIF resources may be made available for other topics pending review and acceptance by the CCT as relevant to Ames, the NASA HQ Office of the Chief Technologist, and/or Agency objectives. The onus is on the proposer to show the relevancy of the concept in the proposal. Advance review is not necessary.

The CCT office cannot pre-review concepts without the risking loss of credibility and impartiality. Potential responders should seek feedback from their own management. However, Dr. Langhoff will give informal feedback on all proposals not approved for funding in this CIF cycle, if the proposers seek it.

Q: I am curious to know why the CIF solicitation is open only to CS led efforts? This is ignoring the vibrant ongoing ideas and efforts of numerous non-CS Ames researchers and relegating them to second class citizen status within the community. Why not open this solicitation up to the entire Ames research community and see what innovative concepts are proposed! A: There are several reasons why we are requiring that teams be led by civil servants:

1. The stated goal of the Center Innovation Fund Program is to stimulate and encourage creativity and innovation within the NASA Centers; it calls on “NASA scientists and engineers to lead” projects but encourages partnerships with research laboratories, academia and private industry.

2. The overarching issue that drives the requirement for civil service leads is the paucity of procurement dollars vs. FTE dollars; Centers can distribute a mix of procurement and FTE labor funding, but procurement dollars are so limited it would be next to impossible to set aside awards that are procurement only.

3. Even if we could do so, the CCT office is so small that we would not be able to oversee contractor awards. Our approach enables us to hand oversight of projects to other civil servants who would then be responsible.

4. This is a constraint at all Centers; in fact, the Ames policy may be one of the more liberal in this respect.

Q: In order to calculate the dollar amount for NASA Civil Servants in the budget provided on the CIF Quad Chart template, what labor rate should I use? A: You may use your actual rate (including benefits), if known, or use the Ames average labor rate for FY13: $199.6K. Q: Is there a set minimum number of FTE hours required of the civil servant CIF lead? A: While there is no set minimum on the number of FTE hours for the civil servant CIF lead, there must be a reasonable level of effort by the CS lead (noted in the budget section) to successfully accomplish their tasks and responsibilities indicated in the work description. Q: On the budget sheet, how do I calculate a civil servant’s FTE’s and the equivalent budget ($) based on the number of hours? A: For each civil servant listed in the proposal, determine the number of hours required to complete the tasks for which the CS is responsible. FTE equivalent can be determined by dividing the labor hours by 2080 (i.e. #hours/2080 = FTE). Then, multiply the FTE by the labor rate (including benefits). If this is not known, use the FY13 Center average

$199K/year (i.e. FTE*$199K = CS $budget). Q: If my proposal lists partners, do I need a Statement of Commitment from that partner? What does the statement have to include? A: If your proposal states that you have a partner (either in academia, private industry, other government agency, non-profit, or other NASA Center), you are required to submit a Statement of Commitment from each partner. The Statement of Commitment must come from the partner and include: the partner name; organization; a statement from the partner indicating knowledge of the proposal; a list of the tasks stated as the partners responsibility; a statement of concurrence of those tasks; and a list of any deliverables from the the partner. It should be signed by the partner, and if possible, be on the partner’s organizational letterhead. Q: How do I submit a Statement of Commitment from a partner? A: A partner Statement of Commitment may be uploaded in the same way (and at the same time) as the Quad and Penta charts (An uploaded document may be any number of file types, including Word, PP, etc.). Q: Are both the Penta and Quad charts required for CIF submission? Are there any other requirements beyond the Penta and Quad charts? A: Yes, both the Penta and Quad charts are required. If there is a field that does not apply to your particular proposal, than state so with an “N/A”. Other than the Penta and Quad charts, if you have partners listed in the proposal, a statement of commitment is required from each partner (see above question for further details). Q: Should I budget the work done by a university partner under contract labor (WYE) or under procurement? A: Labor performed by either academia or industry (i.e. any non-government civil servant) should be budgeted under Contract Labor (WYE). (If a contractor’s effort is a fixed-price, this should also be budgeted under Contract Labor. In this case, just indicate fixed-price, and do not fill in labor hours.) Q: How do I budget equipment purchased by a contractor? A: Any hardware or software purchased for the project should be budgeted under Procurement ($), regardless of who procures the equipment.

Q: If a proposal requests .2 FTE ($40K equivalent), does that limit the procurement budget to$10K (so as not to exceed the $50K max)? A: The procurement limit, which includes all contract labor (WYE) and hardware/software procurement, is$50,000. The civil servant labor limit is 1 FTE. These are independent limits. However, since the procurement limit includes both contract labor and other procurements, then if your proposal requests $40K for a contractor, then your hardware/software procurement would be limited to$10K.

Q: Can proposers submit partner letters of support that have been signed electronically? A: Yes. We may ask for a paper copy for the record if the proposal is accepted.
