## GCSE Maths Revision

(Focussed revision for year 10 and year 11)

Prepare yourself to be amazed by numbers in a plethora of different representations. Here you will find angles, fractions, indices, percentages, powers, ratios, statistics and vectors to satisfy even the most enquiring mind.

Such is the complexity of GCSE maths formula and equations that HTML (the language of the Internet) cannot cope with them in text form. Consequently what you see in these maths quizzes is the result of over 3,600 different images and hundreds of hours of work. You had better make good use of them!

Each of the quizzes has a suffix of either “(F)” or “(H)” which signify “Foundation” and “Higher”. We recommend that all GCSE students tackle the Foundation quizzes and the more ambitious high-flyers amongst you wade-in to the Higher ones as well!

### GCSE Maths Revision – Not Easy but it’s Fun!

We can’t pretend to be able to make it a piece of cake to solve complex mathematical problems but at least we will try and make it fun!

42, the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything. This Answer was first calculated by the supercomputer Deep Thought after seven and a half million years of thought. This shocking answer resulted in the construction of an even larger supercomputer, named Earth, which was tasked with determining what the question was in the first place.

## The Question

The Earth was destroyed by the Vogons five minutes before its ten-million year program was due to be completed. One of the only two humans who had survived the destruction of Earth, namely Arthur Dent. pulls random Scrabble tiles from a bag. When his friend, Ford Prefect. lines up the tiles, they spell, ‘What do you get when you multiply six by nine?’ Some readers of Adams have thought that this question was the aforementioned Ultimate Question. After all, it is Arthur who has been led to reveal this answer; Arthur is indeed from Earth; the Earth was the giant computer built to work out exactly what the Ultimate Question was; and ‘what is 6 x 9?’ is a bona fide question.

## Behind the scenes

• Readers have speculated, though, that 6 x 9 does indeed equal 42 when one calculates in base 13. Adams responded thus: ‘I may be a sorry case, but I don’t write jokes in base 13.’

### Inspiration for the number 42

There are quite a lot of numbers to choose from, so why did Douglas Adams choose 42? Basically he wanted a small, ordinary, innocuous number and he picked 42. This message from Adams explains his choice.

Best answer: First, may I thank you, and also congratulate you for posting such an amazing, and appropriate question. You ve certainly generated a huge response.

One thing I ve noticed that I find both interesting and disturbing in many of the answers is the immediate reference to a certain description of President Obama. Perhaps others have picked up on this as well. There s just something about him that makes him different from the other presidents. Gosh, I just can t imagine what THAT could be.

Seriously, folks, WHY is that the very first thing that comes to many people s minds when asked what they think about President Obama? What about his accomplishments? His classiness? His coolness? His poise? But nooooo. the first thing we say is, Oh, he was black

Really. This is ALL that maters or comes to mind when you think about him?

When I think of President Obama, I think of a man of great class. This guy is cool! He has quite the sense of humor. The country s economy was in quite the mess when he first came into office. A certain group of people (Gosh, I can t imagine WHO) put up one roadblock after another, after another in an attempt to make this guy look bad. That s been their plan. Whatever he was for, they were against. It did not matter if some of his plans were actually very good plans that would benefit the American people. Because these were his plans, they were against them. Then they had the nerve to turn around and try to say, What has President Obama ever done for this country? Not a thing! That s been their agenda all along. They wanted him to look bad.

But they have FAILED.

Despite of all those road blocks, I think President Obama has done quite an amazing job in turning things around compared to how they were when he first took office. Is there still work to be done? Is there room for improvement? Absolutely! The work must go forward. I cringe to think what this country would look like today if the previous president was still in power.

One of our presidential candidates has the slogan, Make America Great Again . My question is, Isn t America ALREADY great? I believe it is.

No, President Obama isn t perfect. Do you know anybody who is? I don t. You cannot please all of the people all of the time, and I believe President Obama is well aware of that. He has faced a LOT of criticism, probably more than many past presidents. Some of the criticism might be warranted, but I believe a lot of it is not. Some of the blatant displays of disrespect towards him, which I think is undeserving, have been way beyond what other presidents have experienced, and yet, look how he s handled it; He is a man of class.

I am grateful to have lived during the time when he was our president.

## Let our live telephone answering service manage the calls that you can’t for a low price of just \$39 each month!

• Phone calls picked up quickly in three rings or less.
• Phone script free from set-up or programming fees.
• Operators based in the US accessible at all times 24/7.
• Messages delivered to you through your choice of email, text, or fax.

### Why implement a telephone answering service?

Our service is beneficial for countless reasons, primarily because it gives your customers a way in which they can reach your company, even when you aren’t open. There are very few small businesses that are open at all hours of the day, every day of the week, making it increasingly important that your clients can speak to someone when necessary. When you choose our premier services, you can rest assured that your clients will always have someone to talk to.

Opportunities are missed too often because of unanswered calls. It has been shown that customers always want to talk to a person when they call, and not to an automated machine. For further proof, you can examine a 2011 study completed by Consumer Reports.

The study discovered that on a scale measuring level of irritability from 1 to 10, individuals who were unable to get a human representative on the phone ranked the experience at an 8.9! Furthermore, multi-step processes rate an 8.5 when measured for irritability.

For comparison purposes, there was also a measure taken of aggressive salespeople in the store regarding their irritability. Consumers rated these individuals at an 8.2, demonstrating that even the most pushy salespeople don’t produce an irritability rank higher than that of not being able to speak to a live agent on the phone.

Of course, many people feel as if they can just rely on their voicemail; however, this isn’t the case. In fact, depending on voicemail produces more issues, the primary problem being that the majority of people who call won’t leave a message. If they could easily reach one of your competitors, there is nothing to lose by calling another company.

There are also instances in which the reason for a call may be time-sensitive or in need of immediate attention. When this occurs, customers will often select the first company that they can talk to, meaning that they won’t be your clients unless someone is there to answer the phone. When you use our high-quality live telephone answering service, you won’t have to worry about this problem any longer.

#### Our call center fills in the gaps in your call management

Many people may begin to question just how our service operates. If your employees are unable to answer a call, one of our operators will. By using your script, the operator will then take down the message and phone number to be delivered to you by email, text, or fax. After this point, you can manage these messages in a way that is most appropriate, meaning that you don’t even necessarily have to call each person back either.

If you find that you are consistently overwhelmed with calls or are having a lot of calls during your non-operational hours, our business answer service can help. We can help to prevent your company from losing business to competitors as a result of missed calls, answering your calls for you in a way that is both polite and professional.

With other options ranging upwards of \$100, you can take advantage of our low monthly rate starting at just \$39.

#### No one can beat our services

Our services include US-based operators who are ready to speak to your customers in a courteous way.

When preparing for your next job interview, you ll want to have answers to these common job interview questions. These answers are just a guideline to follow. The most important thing to do is to be honest and be yourself when answering these job interview questions.

## 1. Tell me about yourself.

Perhaps this the most common and famous interview question of all interview question. Tell me about yourself is the gateway to just about anything to wish to say which is why it can be tricky. When asked the question, the interviewer doesn t want to know where you were born or what color your hair it. This question prompts an answer that gives the interviewer a general answer of why you would be good for this job. Your answer may reveal some of your greatest achievements or how your past experience might relate to the job you are applying for.

## 2. Why would I hire you?

For this answer you need to realize that the better answer you give, the easier it is for the employer. It s up to you so give the employer a reason to hire you. This is a great time to tell the interviewer about any past work experience you have. You might say, When I was working at XXX, I did XXX. I feel that experience will allow me to excel at this position I am applying for. Even better, think of a specific example or story to tell about a situation you have been in before and how that could be useful to the company.

## 3. What are you strengths

Figure out 2-3 things about yourself that you really like about yourself and elaborate. Always give an example after you say your strength. For example, you may say you are dedicated. Then you should follow up with an instance when at your last you job, you had an important project due and you worked extra hours to make sure it got done.

## 4. What are your weaknesses?

When answering the classic weakness question. you always want to give an answer that isn t really a weakness. You may say, I don t speak a second language, or when I start a project, I can t focus on anything else until I get it done. This shows that you are dedicated and hard working. You never want to truly bash yourself when answering this question. That isn t the point. The following examples here are easy to discuss and can lead to talking about future growth and learning.

## 5. What is the most important thing to you in a job?

If there is something really important for you to have in a job, be honest and say it. Remember, a job interview is a tool to reveal the best fit for the company. If something is really important to you that the company doesn t offer, it is best to reveal it now.

## 6. What are you career goals?

Employers want to know this to see what positions you might grow into later on if you were to be hired. They also want to know this to see how long you might stay with the company if hired. The company may be looking for a candidate they can groom into their next Senior VP. However, you are only looking for a job to cover you for the next couple of years, it might not be the best match.

## 8. Why did you leave your last job?

Whatever the reason was, tell the story of why is was mutually beneficial for you to leave the company. Never blurt out, I got fired, and end it at that. It makes you look bad and can even make the interviewer feel uncomfortable. Prepare an honest story with a logical reason that doesn t reveal too much personal information or company gossip. If you did get fired, you can use this as an opportunity to discuss what you lessons you learned and what you would now do differently.

Example Job Interview Questions and Answers

Congratulations! You have applied for a job and now you are getting ready for that important job interview. Your English is excellent and you are looking forward to making a good impression on your future (hopefully) boss. Now, you need to make sure that you also have the right type of English for that job interview .

The job interview in English contains specific questions and appropriate answers.

It also requires a certain flexibility in your usage of tenses. This feature provides tips on job interview questions and answers in English.

When you walk in the room the very first impression you make on the interviewer can have a great influence on the rest of the interview. It is important that you introduce yourself, shake hands, and are friendly. The first question is often a breaking the ice (establish a rapport) type of question. Don t be surprised if the interviewer asks you something like:

• How are you today?
• Did you have any trouble finding us?
• What do you think of the weather lately?

Don t be surprised by the friendly tone. The interviewer wants to put you at ease (help you relax). Answer the question without going into too much detail. The language you use should be simple but polite, for example;

How are you today?

GOOD
I m fine thank you, and you?
I m well thank you.

What is most important?

Talking about your experience and credentials (qualifications) is the most important part of any job interview.

Your qualifications include your education from High School on and any special training you may have done in the past. Your experience is any work that you have done that is directly or indirectly related to the job you are applying for.

Remember that your education took place in the past. Therefore you need to use the past tenses, for example:

I attended the University of Helsinki from 1987 to 1993.
I graduated with a degree in agricultural planning.
Etc.

If you are currently a student you should use the following present tenses :

I am currently studying at the University of New York and will graduate with a degree in Economics in the spring.
I am studying English at the Borough Community College.
Etc.

Remember to include any training you may have had when talking about your education. This includes any computer training, correspondence courses, etc. Make sure to mention your English studies. This is very important as English is not your first language and the employer may be concerned about this fact. Assure the employer that you are continuing to improve your English skills by any courses you may be taking, or by saying that you study a certain number of hours a week to improve your skills.

Experience and Qualifications

Work experience is by far the most important topic of any job interview (at least in the United States and Britain). Therefore, it is important to explain what experience you have in detail. Generally, employers want to know exactly what you did and how well you accomplished your tasks. This is not the time to be modest. Be confident, and talk freely about your accomplishments in past employment.

The tenses you should use are the following:

When talking about current employment be careful to use the present perfect or present perfect continuous. This signals that you are still performing these tasks at your current job, for example:

Smith and Co. have employed me for the last 3 years as a salesperson.
I have been creating customer contacts for 6months.
Etc.

When talking about past employers use the past tenses to signal that you are no longer working for that company, for example:

I was employed by Jackson s from 1989 to 1992 as a clerk.
I worked as a receptionist at the Ritz while I was living in New York.
Etc.

Most importantly, you will need to demonstrate your qualifications and skills, which are required for the job you are applying for. The job skills that you have acquired in the past may not have been for the same exact job. Therefore, it is important to show how the capabilities you do have relate to the job you are applying for.

I remember a wonderful example of adapting skills to fit the job desired. I had a student from Moscow who had worked as the manager of an important theater in Moscow. Unfortunately, he had to start from the beginning in New York and therefore wanted to get a job as a rodent exterminator (someone who kills rats!). When asked what kind of experience he had, he replied that, as the manager of the theater, he had had to make sure that the theater was always rodent free and was therefore capable of doing the job well! This is a fantastic example of the type of adaptability most employers in the United States are looking for.

On the next page you will find a list of appropriate vocabulary to use in the job interviewing process. Good luck!

Most [candidates] have no idea why a recruiter asks a particular question, says Brad Karsh, a former recruiting professional for advertising giant Leo Burnett and current president of career consulting firm Job Bound. They tend to think it s a competition to outwit the interviewer.

The reality is that employers have neither the time nor inclination to play games with you, especially when hiring. Your interviewer is not trying to outguess you — he s trying to assess your answers to six key questions:

Do You Have the Skills to Do the Job?

According to Karsh, the employer must first determine whether you have the necessary hard skills for the position, e.g. the programming knowledge for a database administration job or the writing chops to be a newspaper reporter. By really probing into what the candidate has done in the past. an interviewer can tap into hard skills.

But the interviewer is also looking for key soft skills you ll need to succeed in the job and organization, such as the ability to work well on teams or the requisite common sense to figure things out with some basic training, says Terese Corey Blanck, director of student development at internship company Student Experience and a partner in College to Career, a consulting firm.

Every organization s first thought is about fit and potentially fit in a certain department, Corey Blanck says. That means the interviewer is trying to pinpoint not only whether you match up well with both the company s and department s activities but also whether you ll complement the talents of your potential coworkers.

Do You Understand the Company and Its Purpose?

If the organization fits well with your career aspirations, you ll naturally be motivated to do good work there — and stay more than a month or two, Corey Blanck reasons. I don t want someone to take the position because it s a job and it fits their skills, she says. I want them to be excited about our mission and what we do.

How Do You Stack Up Against the Competition?

You re being evaluated in relation to other candidates for the job. In other words, this test is graded on a curve. So the interviewer will constantly be comparing your performance with that of the other candidates .

Do You Have the Right Mind-Set for the Job and Company?

I m always looking for someone who has a can-do type of attitude, Corey Blanck explains. I want someone who wants to be challenged and is internally motivated to do well.

Corey Blanck points out that an employer can t train for this essential trait. But you can hire for it, she says. And if you don t, you ll end up with a lower-performing employee.

Do You Want the Job?

Most employers know better than to believe everyone they interview actually wants the position being offered. They understand some candidates are exploring their options, while others are using an interview with a company they don t care about to hone their interview skills .

So you have to prove you really want the job. says Al Pollard, senior college recruiter for Countrywide Financial. I use the ditch-digger analogy, he says. Many of us can dig ditches, but few are willing to — and even fewer want to.

## THE APOSTLE PETER (SIMON) #any #question #answered

#

The Apostle Simon ( Peter )

It has been said that the apostle Peter was a slender person. He was of a middle size, inclining to tallness, and that his complexion was pale (almost white.) It has, also, been said that he had a short, thick, curled beard, thin eyebrows (or no eyebrows at all.)

Another description of the apostle Peter is that his eyes were black, but flecked with red due to frequent weeping.

Peter was born in Betsaida (in Galilee, Israel.) By profession, he was a fisherman. His father (also a fisherman) was named Jona; his brother, the apostle Andrew. He and his brother (Andrew), along with their partners (the apostles James and John) were fishermen on the Sea of Galilee. Zebedee (the father of James and John) was also a partner.

So firm was Peter’s faith that Jesus gave him the name of Cephas, meaning, in the Syriac language, a rock (Peter is the Greek translation of Cephas.)

The house in which Peter lived, in Capernaum, is still standing; in the 5th century AD, however, a Christian church was constructed over it.

It was Peter who preached to the masses in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost (following Jesus’ ascension to heaven.) His message is recorded in the New Testament of the Bible, the book of Acts, chapter 2.

Peter is, also, the one who prompted the disciples to choose a replacement to take over the apostolic ministry of Judas Iscariot (after Judas’ betrayal of Christ Jesus.)

It was, also, Peter who healed a man, who was over 40 years of age, who had been crippled from birth, with but the words, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”

Peter was called by the apostle Paul a “pillar” of the Church. It was, also, believed by the crowds that the mere casting of his shadow upon the sick was capable of bringing about miraculous healing.

Peter is the one who defended the inclusion of the Gentiles (non-Jews) into the Christian Church at the Apostolic Council in Jerusalem. His ministry was primarily to the Jews, as the apostle Paul’s was to the Gentiles.

After being imprisoned several times in Jerusalem (because of his faith), Peter left with his wife and possibly others. It is believed that he ministered (in Babylon) to the Jewish colonists there. It is, also, believed to be his location when he wrote his first epistle (1 Peter.)

Peter eventually went to Rome. While there, it is believed that John Mark (the writer of the Gospel of Mark) served as his translator (as he preached.) There is a Church tradition which says that Mark the disciple and interpreter of the apostle Peter wrote a short gospel at the request of the brethren at Rome, embodying what he had heard Peter tell. Thus Peter was the source of the Gospel of Mark.

According to Church tradition, the Roman Emperor Nero, publicly announcing himself the chief enemy of God, was led in his fury to slaughter the Apostles. Because of this persecution, Peter was crucified upside down while in Rome.

Concerning the last hours of his life, it is said that Peter, when seeing his own wife led out to die, rejoiced because of her summons and her return home. He called to her very encouragingly and comfortingly, addressing her by name, and saying, “O thou, remember the Lord.”

Of the final days of the apostle Peter in Rome, Italy, Jowett wrote that Peter was cast into a horrible prison called the Mamertine. For nine months, in absolute darkness, he endured monstrous torture manacled to a post. In spite of all the suffering Peter was subjected to, however, he converted his jailers, Processus, Martinianus, and forty-seven others.

Peter met his death at the hand of the Romans in Nero’s circus, 67AD.

In a previous post. we discussed how “clicker” questions are used in large lecture classes as a way to increase classroom interaction and improve student conceptual understanding, and we discussed the “Assessing to Learn ” collection of physics questions that WebAssign provides to support this.

WebAssign is pleased to provide a new collection of conceptual physics questions, the “Physics Clicker Questions ” collection, developed by Lin Ding, Neville W. Reay, Albert H. Lee, and Tom G. Carter of the Ohio State University Physics Education Research Group. Like “Assessing to Learn ,” the Ohio State “Physics Clicker Questions ” are provided as an additional resource, available to all instructors, at no additional cost to students. Consisting of approximately 500 questions, this resource can be used both in-class or outside class as a great way to help students develop conceptual understanding and qualitative reasoning skills in physics.

The questions in this collection have been organized into 160 sequences of related questions in introductory physics. These sequences hone in on student understanding of a particular concept by asking variations of questions about the same situation, in a process the researchers call “conceptual scaffolding.” The questions cover the full range of topics in an introductory physics course, including mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and wave motion.

The collection also comes with instructor resources which can help enhance your classroom experience. These can be accessed by clicking the “Resources” tab. Included in these resources are PowerPoint presentations containing the sequences of questions by topic. These presentations are specifically designed for use with the Turning Technologies clicker system and their TurningPoint software, but could also be used with other clicker systems, or none at all. Also included in the Resources are PDFs of research papers, published in peer-reviewed journals, that give more background on the development and usage of these questions.

You can add these clicker questions to your course by selecting Conceptual Clicker Questions – Assessing-to-Learn under Additional Resources when creating a new course. We encourage you to take advantage of this excellent collection of research-inspired questions.

Do you use clickers in the classroom? Share your tips for this method of teaching with all of our readers in the comments section below!

# What are the answers to questions on WebAssign?

The types of answers on WebAssign vary according to the nature of the question and may involve a number, letter, word or a more complex response. Simple factual answers can be graded either by the instructor or an automated program, whereas show-your-work, essays and other complex answers must be graded by the instructor. Answer keys are available to the instructor to facilitate grading.

## How can you get help on WebAssign?

After a student has completed an assignment, an instructor can respond in a number of ways. A simple mark might indicate a student has answered a question or part of a question correctly. A feedback bubble with comments might contain explanations or hints to point the student towards the answer. The instructor can also provide the student with the answer key along with the graded material. Students cannot access the answer key on their own unless the instructor allows it.

The instructor has a lot of discretion when setting up courses on WebAssign. He can use all or part of ready-made course packs available for some courses through WebAssign. The instructor’s own course material, assignments and quizzes can be added to the ready-made content. The instructor can access and change the material at any time while the course is going on. He can also control the students’ access to learning tools, responses, marks and overall scores.

WebAssign is an on-line homework system used in Math 112, 113, 115, 115B, 140, 140, 140H, 141, 141H, 220 and 221.

Logging into the WebAssign system:

• There are two methods of payment: credit card, or at the bookstore. You will see more information about this when you log on to webassign. The cost is \$19.95 per semester per course as of Fall 2012.

Selecting an Assignment:

• Once you have successfully logged in, you will see an assignment list with information such as how many tries you have to complete each problem and when the assignment is due.
• Select the assignment you want to work on.

Question Types – Within WebAssign there are different types of questions that can be asked, including Multiple Choice, Numerical, and Symbolic. Each type of question should be handled slightly differently.

• Appearance: The question will be followed by a list of possible solutions. Next to each will be a square containing a circle called a radio button.
• Use: Radio buttons only allow you to select one answer. If you try to select more than one, only the last answer you select will be counted.
• Example: Problem 1 of the Assignment WA1.
• Appearance: Like Multiple choice questions, Multiple Select Questions will be followed by a list of possible answers. However, next to each possible answer will be a square checkbox.
• Use: A checkbox allows you to choose more than one answer. To get the problem correct you must check all of the correct answers. If you check an answer and then decide this answer is not correct, simply click on the box again and the check will disappear.
• Example: Problem 2 of the Assignment WA1.

Numerical, Symbolic, and Fill-in-the blank

• Appearance: Numerical, Symbolic, and Fill-in-the-Blank questions will all appear the same on the screen. Somewhere within or at the end of the problem, you will see a rectangular box.
• Use: Clicking in the box will allow you to enter your answer.

How do I know the difference? If the question asks for an answer which is a word, then this is a fill in the blank question. If the question says that you may use specific variables or constants within your answer, then it is a symbolic question. Otherwise, it is a Numerical question.

Things to keep in mind:

• Fill-in-the-Blanks are not case sensitive but be very careful to enter the answer with the correct spelling.
• Symbolic questions are case sensitive. If the question states that you may use the variable “t” if you use “T,” then your answer will graded as wrong.
• Numerical questions accept only numbers. You may not use any type of variable or function within your answer.
• After answering all the questions, submit your assignment. Be aware of the maximum number of times you can submit the assignment (this may vary with the assignment).
• Some of the symbols within the problems might look unusually large or small compared to the text
• The equations seem to be wrapping around and becoming jumbled and unreadable.
• The symbols within your assignments have been formatted to match a reasonable text size. If your computer web browser is not set to this size you may have trouble reading the problems. To change this setting, you must change the text size in your browser preferences. Here is how you would do this in Internet Explorer or Firefox:
• Open the View menu at the top of the browser window.
• Select Text Size from this mune
• Set the text size to Largest
• Open the Edit menu at the top of the browser window and go to Preferences (in some versions of Firefox) or the Options menu in the upper left (in more recent versions).
• Select the Content tab and then go to Fonts and Colors .
• Set the Font Size to 18 (both variable and fixed width).
• Most of the problems within your assignments were created using some sort of formatting table. If your browser window is too small, this can cause the equations to line up improperly. To fix this, you should maximize your window by clicking on the maximize button in the top right hand corner of the window.

### More comprehension strategies

• It can improve students’ reading comprehension.
• It helps students to think about the text they are reading and beyond it, too.
• It inspires them to think creatively and work cooperatively while challenging them to use higher-level thinking skills.

## How to use question–answer relationship

1. Explain to students that there are four types of questions they will encounter. Define each type of question and give an example.

Four types of questions are examined in the QAR:

• Right There Questions: Literal questions whose answers can be found in the text. Often the words used in the question are the same words found in the text.
• Think and Search Questions: Answers are gathered from several parts of the text and put together to make meaning.
• Author and You: These questions are based on information provided in the text but the student is required to relate it to their own experience. Although the answer does not lie directly in the text, the student must have read it in order to answer the question.
• On My Own: These questions do not require the student to have read the passage but he/she must use their background or prior knowledge to answer the question.

3. Have predetermined questions you will ask after you stop reading. When you have finished reading, read the questions aloud to students and model how you decide which type of question you have been asked to answer.

4. Show students how find information to answer the question (i.e. in the text, from your own experiences, etc.).

One Hen: How One Small Loan Made a Big Difference by Kate Smith Milway. illustrated by Eugenie Fernandes (Kids Can)

This fictionalized story of Kojo, a boy from Ghana, who changes his world with a small loan and one hen, is based on a real person. Kwabena Darko lives in West Africa and started a system of micro-loans in villages that would not otherwise have access. How to Heal a Broken Wing by Bob Graham (Candlewick 2008)

Children often see what adults miss, and so it is when Will finds a pigeon with a broken wing on the sidewalk of a busy city. Will and his parents, help the bird recover over time then release it. Limited text and well paced and placed illustrations tell the affecting story.

Pale Male: Citizen Hawk of New York City by Janet Schulman. illustrated by Meilo So (Knopf)

Stunning watercolors evoke the height and breadth of New York City while a dramatic text relates the true story of a now-famous feathered resident, a hawk named Pale Male. The tension between the lifestyle of Pale Male and human residents as well as the fate of Pale Male’s mates and offspring create riveting reading.

I think that’s true for everyone–we are, after all, the ones hearing the text in our heads when we read and think about it.
It seems that the Common Core is trying to balance out the preponderance of text-to-self connections with “Hey, Look! There’s a Text! And an Author! And Skill used by the Author! Let’s take a look at what that is!”—because, truly, kids don’t need a teacher to help them identify text-to-self connections—most of them are pretty clear on what they’re thinking. They DO, however, need teachers to help them with the harder stuff.

My MA Thesis was an examination of American Lit textbooks from the late 80s to 2000 and the decline in post-text questioning was appalling. It all went from challenging, thoughtful analysis in 1989 to, “If you were a Puritan. ” from about 1996 onward.

Agree that we all have personal connections to texts that need to be acknowledged and respected. Also Agree that CCSS is trying to rebalance a long-out-of-whack pedagogical table which has left kids unable to do much OTHER than identify how everything connects to them.

Agreed! I know this is an old comment, but I just stumbled upon it. I’m concerned at the growing prevalence of “Connect to your life!” questions. Seems to encourage narcissism, something that this current generation of students certainly doesn’t need help developing.

## Quick IQ Test – Good Questions #dictionary #thesaurus #free

The Intelligence quotient or IQ is a number describing the intelligence of people in comparison to the rest of the population. The original definition of IQ when measuring the intelligence of children was: IQ is a ratio of the mental age to the physical age multiplied by 100. The mental age was calculated on the basis of the average results in a test in the respective age category.

Types of IQ Tests

There are two types of IQ tests:
1) Verbal – They determine the level of the ability to find the superior concept for presented series of concepts: “dog, cat, lion = animal”, identify the concept not pertaining to a group: “bird, rabbit, monkey, car”, find regularities in series of numbers: “11,12,14,17,21”, solving of mathematical word tasks, etc.

2) Non-verbal – These tests are designed to measure the ability to form cubes, organize pictures by certain time and a logical sequence, build shapes from various parts, etc. Some of these tests are often aimed to explore your abstract, complex or detail thinking.

Keep in mind that when you decide to take an IQ test, you have to be physically and mainly mentally relaxed, and take it seriously, which will allow you to be fully concentrated.

For a number of years, one of my passionate hobbies has been researching paranormal scams. These are situations where an individual claims they can predict the future, that they’ve discovered the secret to antigravity, or that they work for the government and know the truth about whether aliens exist. A common thread in all of that surreal research is that generally, an unnerving number of people are very, very gullible.

That gullibility multiplies significantly when the event being portrayed includes something that appears supernatural or “magical” in nature. Deep down, many people still want to believe in the magic – and when they are presented with the opportunity to believe again, they jump all over it.

A case in point is a website that’s been growing in popularity among the prankster community called Ask Peter, or Peter Answers. It comes complete with creepy Old English font and a copyright line at the bottom that adds to the intrigue, “Peter Answers 3.5 – Virtual Tarot – Original idea: Wizard 666.” That’s right, Wizard 666….oooh, are you dealing with a supernatural entity hidden behind the bits and bytes of this mysterious web page? In this article, I would like to share the answer to the question – how does Ask Peter work?

### How Does Ask Peter Work? The Believer Perspective

First, I’m going to show you how the website works for the person off of the street who knows nothing about the inner workings of the Ask Peter. When you first arrive at the website, you’ll see a very simple web form.

The point of the website is that it’s a sort of electronic “tarot” which will peek into your future and answer your questions accordingly. However, Peter is a fickle psychic, and he must be treated with respect or he won’t answer your question. Therefore, before you ask a question, you must petition Peter with the sentence, “Peter, please answer the following question:” If you’re using Ask Peter alone and you don’t know the secret behind the site, you’ll typically get an answer like this.

Tired? But he’s nothing more than electronic wizardry! Ah, but it’s all part of the show, folks. The magic really happens when you bring in a second person who knows Peter’s terrible secret (after reading this article, that will be you!) The second person needs to type in the petition and question for you, and then you’ll get the answer – which is usually remarkably accurate.

If the person typing the question knows the secret – you’ll get such an answer. In the second half of this article, I’m going to share the Peter’s terrible secret, and welcome you into the secret society of “Ask Peter” insiders. If you enjoy the childlike, magical perspective offered by your blissful ignorance – then stop reading this article now. Otherwise, if you would like a small antivirus shot so that you’ll be immune to this particular scam, then read on.

### Welcome To The Secret Society Of Ask Peter

If you’ve read this far, then you feel prepared for the secret knowledge of how Ask Peter works. Let’s take a closer look.

The ultimate secret to Ask Peter is actually a bit of creative Javascripting. Getting Peter to answer a question doesn’t take reverence and politeness, it takes a very plain period. That’s right – in the “Petition” field, just type a “.” and start typing the answer to the question that you’re going to ask in the next field. At the end of the answer, type another “.” and then continue typing the rest of “Peter, please answer the following question:” To the person sitting next to you, it only appears as though you’ve typed that one question – especially if you’re a fast typist.

So, now you know the secret. Submitting the question that you’ve already entered the answer for and clicking OK will result in Peter providing your answer. The person next to you who’s watching will be astounded and flabbergasted by the amazing accuracy of this virtual tarot. Just don’t be too accurate, as you’ll raise suspicion. Once you’re through, you can proudly claim another Ask Peter believer under your belt. In doing so, you’ve perfectly portrayed the terrible gullibility that runs rampant throughout the world.

Let’s take a closer look at how the background scripting for Ask Peter actually works.

Here, I’ve viewed the source code for the web page. Now, the creators of this website were clever enough to suspect that discerning tech geeks would try peeking under the hood, so they’ve incorporated a few safeguards. The first, of course, is processing all entries through an ASP script called “PeterAnswers.aspx” and that’s a script that you simply can’t see without access to the web server files. However, if you look closely at the form code, you’ll discover an interesting anomaly.

It appears that when each keyboard key is pressed (the onKeyPress event handler), a function is called that returns a character. What character is really returned? If you look at the function for each field, they appear identical, but they’re not. One is named with a leading letter O, two zeroes and three trailing letter O’s again. The second function is named with a leading letter O, a zero, another letter O and four trailing zeroes.

The same holds true for the OnKeyDown event handler – you’ll find two completely new functions disguised to look identical. What does this mean to those of you who aren’t Javascript programmers? It means that instead of one, single function handling the text that gets entered into each field and returning a text value to the field, there are actually four distinct functions handling every individual keypress. This means that there’s a whole lot of TomFoolery going on with the text that you enter into each text field.

The answer, of course, is that if you’re in the “Petition” field, the ASP script returns what you type into the field, but watches for the moment you type the “.” character. At that point, it starts typing the rest of the statement “Peter, please answer…” as it saves each character you’re actually typing into a variable until you type “.” again. Finally, once you click “OK” – your saved text that was stored in a string variable is displayed below in the form of Peter’s Answer.

Now that you know the inner workings of this online Prank, are you more likely to try it out on a friend? Share your opinion about this online “virtual tutor” in the comment section below, and if you do try it out on a friend, let us know how it went!

Whoa! This is more than stumbling on a site, this where I want to be and is the best next web page for the growing Africans that want good change to revive the reading culture among the young ones. With this material I can change the lives of many young minds in my community. This is simply GREAT!

# Why didn t you answer my question?

Why didn t you answer my question?

That s a fair question. I don t answer all the questions I get, and I also don t respond to all the comments that are posted.

It s not that I don t want to. I can t. There are simply too many questions coming in every day for me to address each and every one. I do have to prioritize and select those questions I can answer that will also benefit the most people when I post the answer.

Let me give you some tips that ll help increase the odds.

Use the search box at the upper right of every single page. There are over 4,000 articles (that s four thousand ). A significant percentage of the questions I get every day are already answered by one of them.

Get up to datefirst. Most all solutions assume that everything is up-to-date. That means Windows, your security software, your applications and anything involved at all with whatever problem it is you re experiencing.

Scan for malwarefirst. A surprisingly large number of my answers begin with run an up-to-date anti-malware scan . You can save time by doing that before you ask.

Be clear. Sadly I don t know how to put it more clearly myself. If I can t understand your question you will not get an answer.

Be complete. Provide as much information about your problem as you can:

• Windows version
• Software versions
• Machine make and model
• The exact steps that caused the problem
• Exact error message
• Anything else that might be relevant

I absolutely realize that you might not know exactly everything that s relevant, but I do need a lot more that it doesn t work to go on.

And for the other side of the coin:

It wasn t in English. Sorry, but I only read English.

It wasn t clear. I get a surprising number of questions that are, as far as I can tell, nearly unintelligible. I do my best, but if I can t figure out what you re asking or talking about, I can t answer your question. That includes avoiding most netspeak shorthand and l33t speak.

There wasn t a question. Many questions I get don t actually ask me anything, so there s no need for me to respond. My Hotmail doesn t work is a good example.

The question is incomplete. I need details to help you operating system, specific error messages, what you were doing, or attempting to do, at the time of the problem you might have been having. While I d love to, I just don t always have the time to ask you lots questions in response to your question to get at what s happening. Why doesn t my Hotmail work? is a classic example.

The question isn t about technology. I get a lot of geography questions, political questions, and other random things. I even get the occasional personal advice question. None of those are my area of expertise I do questions about computers and technology.

You mistyped your email address. or you didn t provide one. This happens surprisingly often. If I can t send you email, or my email to you bounces, I have no other way of getting it to you.

The question asks me to do something questionable, or possibly even illegal. I cannot get your password back, I cannot crack your account or someone else s. I cannot hand out activation codes for anything. All such requests are simply ignored.

The question is already answered on the site. Actually I try to respond to these with a pointer to the article that answers your question, but when the load gets too heavy, this falls by the wayside also. Use the search function to find the answers that are already here heck, it s typically what I do myself to locate the article I d point you at.

The question asked in a comment is answered by the very article that the comment is posted on. I ll admit it I just don t get this. There s text near the comment box that says read the article . Yet I get comments posted that are clearly from people who have not, because it s answered by the article. So, I typically ignore these.

I don t know the answer, or I have nothing substantive to add to the conversation. For submitted questions, I typically do not reply if I don t know the answer. I may put the question into a queue for future research. For comments posted on an existing question, if I have nothing to add, I won t. What s great about comments is that other readers often do.

# IQ Test Questions with Answers – IQ Quiz Test

Last updated on 17 Feb, 2016 by Editor

Intelligence quotient (IQ) is an age-related measure of intelligence and is defined as 100 times the mental age. The word “quotient” means the result of dividing one quantity by another, and intelligence can be defined as mental ability or quickness of mind.

An intelligence test (IQ test) is, by definition, any test that purports to measure intelligence. Generally such tests consist of a graded series of tasks, each of which has been standardized using a large, representative population of individuals. This procedure establishes the average IQ as 100. It is generally believed that a person’s IQ rating is hereditary and that the rate of development of a person’s mental age remains constant until about the age of 13 years, after which it slows up. Beyond the age of 18 little or no improvement is found.

Tests that measure the IQs of children are standardized and an average score is recorded for each age group. Thus a child of 10 years of age who scores the results expected of a child of 12 would have an IQ of 120, calculated as follows: (mental age/chronological age) 100 = (12/10) 100 = 120 However, because little or no improvement in IQ rating is found in adults, they have to be judged on an IQ test whose average score is 100 and their results graded above and below this norm according to known scores.

During the past 25-30 years IQ testing has been brought into widespread use by employers because of their need to ensure that they place the right people in the right job from the outset. One of the main reasons for this in today’s world of tight purse strings, cost cutting and low budgets is the high cost of errors in employing the wrong person for a job, including the cost of re-advertising and interviewing new applicants and of reinvestment in training.

How To Increase IQ Level?

As IQ is hereditary, it is not possible to increase your IQ. It is, nevertheless, possible to improve your performance on IQ tests by practicing the many different types of question and by learning to recognize the recurring themes. The questions in this book are typical of the type and style of question that you are likely to encounter in actual tests and are designed to provide valuable practice for anyone who may have to take this type of test in the future. It is our belief that by practicing different types of IQ tests, and by attuning your mind to the different types of questions you may encounter, it is possible to improve by a few vital percentage points. It is these few percentage points that may prove crucial in increasing your job prospects and may mean the difference between success or failure when attending one of the many job interviews that include an IQ test. The tests that follow are not, therefore, standardized, so an actual IQ assessment cannot be given.

# How to Write a Good Answer to Exam Essay Questions

Answering essay questions on an exam can be difficult and stressful, which can make it hard to provide a good answer. However, you can improve your ability to answer essay questions by learning how to understand the questions, form an answer, and stay focused. Developing your ability to give excellent answers on essay exams will take time and effort, but you can learn some good essay question practices and start improving your answers.

## Steps Edit

### Part One of Three: Understanding the Question Edit

Read the question carefully. Before you get started, make sure that you have read the essay question twice and that you understand what you need to do. Underline or highlight the most important words or phrases in the question to help you stay focused on answering the question. [1]

Identify the key words. Teachers and professors use certain key words in essay questions to communicate what they want you to do. For example, an essay question that asks you to “describe” an issue will be different from an essay question that asks you to “argue” a position. Make sure that you identify the key word in each essay question you read. Some of the most common key words include: [2]

• Analyze: Explain the what, where, who, when, why, and how. Include pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses, etc.
• Compare: Discuss the similarities and differences between two or more things. Don’t forget to explain why the comparison is useful.
• Contrast: Discuss how two or more things are different or distinguish between them. Don’t forget to explain why the contrast is useful.
• Define: State what something means, does, achieves, etc.
• Describe: List characteristics or traits of something. You may also need to summarize something, such as an essay prompt that asks “Describe the major events that led to the American Revolution.”
• Discuss: This is more analytical. You usually begin by describing something and then present arguments for or against it. You may need to analyze the advantages or disadvantages of your subject.
• Evaluate: Offer the pros and cons, positives and negatives for a subject. You may be asked to evaluate a statement for logical support, or evaluate an argument for weaknesses.
• Explain: Explain why or how something happened, or justify your position on something.
• Prove: Usually reserved for more scientific or objective essays. You may be asked to include evidence and research to build a case for a specific position or set of hypotheses.
• Summarize: Usually, this means to list the major ideas or themes of a subject. It could also ask you to present the main ideas in order to then fully discuss them. Most essay questions will not ask for pure summary without anything else.

Ask questions if anything is unclear. If you do not understand what the question is asking or if you are unsure about the meaning of the key word, ask your teacher or professor. Do not attempt to answer the question until you fully understand what you are supposed to do. Otherwise, you may end up providing an incorrect answer. [3]

• Raise your hand and wait for your teacher to come over to you or approach your teacher’s desk to ask your question. This way you will be less likely to disrupt other test takers.

Stop and take a deep breath if you get too anxious. It is crucial to stay calm when you are taking an essay exam. If you get flustered, you may have trouble recalling important information or you may make simple mistakes.

• If you get to a point during the exam where you feel too anxious to focus, put down your pencil (or take your hands off of the keyboard), close your eyes, and take a deep breath. Stretch your arms and imagine that you are somewhere pleasant for a few moments. When you have completed this brief exercise, open up your eyes and resume the exam. [11]

Use your time wisely. Some exams may suggest how much time you should spend on each question or even give you a time limit for each question. Having suggestions and limits like these may help you to budget your time. If you exam does not provide a guide for how much time to spend on each question, develop your own time budget at the beginning of the exam. [12]

• For example, if the exam period is one hour long and you have to answer three questions in that time frame, then you should plan to spend no more than 20 minutes on each question.
• Look at the weight of the questions, if applicable. For example, if there are five 10-point short-answers and a 50-point essay, plan to spend more time on the essay because it is worth significantly more. Don’t get stuck spending so much time on the short-answers that you don’t have time to develop a complex essay.

Write as quickly as you can. While you do not want to write so fast that you are not thinking about your answers, remember that you are on the clock. Consider the question and plan your answers well, but then try to write your answers as quickly as you can. [13]

• This strategy is even more important if the exam has multiple essay questions. If you take too much time on the first question, then you may not have enough time to answer the other questions on the exam.

Stay on topic. While it is okay to let your mind wander a bit when you are writing a formal essay, you need to stay focused on the question when you write an essay exam response. Otherwise, you may end up providing unnecessary information and losing points for not including the information that was required. [14]

• If feel like you are straying away from the question, reread the question and review any notes that you made to help guide you. After you get refocused, then continue writing your answer.
• Try to allow yourself enough time to go back and tighten up connections between your points. A few well-placed transitions can really bump up your grade.

Many presentations today are followed up with a question and answer period. To some people this can be the most exciting part of the presentation. To others it can be their worst nightmare. In fact, there are some presenters who purposely avoid the question and answer period all together. Below I have provided a 5 step approach to handling questions along with some additional tips to make your next question and answer session go smoother.

• Listen to the entire question Listen to the entire question BEFORE you begin to answer any questions. Too many people start responding to a question before the entire question is even asked. Not waiting to hear the entire questions can result in you providing a response which had nothing to do with the question. Force yourself to LISTEN to the entire question and make sure you understand the question.
• Pause and allow yourself time to value the question and listener. REPEAT the question out load so the entire audience can hear it. It is important that everyone “hear” the question or the answer you provide may not make sense to some of the people. By repeating the question, this will allow you some additional time to evaluate the question and formulate a response.
• Credit The Person for asking the question. You may say something like, “That was a great question” or, “Glad you asked that question” or even, “I get asked that question by many people”. One word of caution. If you credit one person with asking a question, be sure to credit EVERYONE for asking a question. You don’t want people to feel their question was not as important.
• Respond to the Question honestly and the best you can. If you do NOT know an answer to a question, do not try to fake it. Be honest, and tell them you do not know but DO promise to research the answer for them and DO get back to them.
• Bridge to the next question by asking them a question. “Does that answer your question?”, “Is that the kind of information you were looking for?”. This is critical. Once they respond to you, “YES” you now have permission to go on to the next person. This also gives them one more opportunity to say, “No” and allow them to clarify their question more by asking it again.

A. Ask people to stand up when they ask a question. This does two things: (1) It shows you more readily who is asking the question, and (2) It make it easier for the audience to also hear the question.

B. Have small sheets of paper available for people to write down their questions during your presentation. They may forget what they were going to ask earlier.

C. Allow people to pass the questions to you if they feel uncomfortable standing up and asking the question out loud. This gives the person who truly wants to ask a question an option.

D. Always repeat the question – this does three things: (1) it makes sure you understood the question, (2) it gives you a chance to value the question and think of an answer, and (3) it assures the other people in the audience can hear the question since you are facing them.

E. Always take time to think “before” you answer all questions. This allows you time to think, especially for those difficult questions. Do the same for those questions you readily know the answer for. Responding too quickly to those questions you are most comfortable with will only bring attention to those questions you do not.

F. Have a pencil and paper available for you to write down questions you can’t answer. You select someone to record the questions on paper. This way, you can properly follow up with the person who asked the question you couldn’t answer. Be sure to get their name & phone number or address. Promise to get back to them and DO get back to them.

# How do you get Peter s answers to work?

This is long, but just read it, kay?

Okay, did it generate computer-given answers?
Listen to my story:

My friend was telling us all about Peter at my older brother s birthday party thing.
We didn t believe it.
So, LAST NIGHT at another birthday, they tried it.
Mike, Shade, Trent, Warren, Adam, and Dalen were the boys in the room.
This is just one question they asked.
Mike (my brother), typed in: Any bad news?
Peter replied: Warren, don t go to school on Monday.

So, today, I didn t believe Mike.
He went there, typed in: What is my mom doing?
Peter: Washing dishes
She was.
He typed in: Who s next to me?
Peter: Karlee

PETER TYPED MY NAME.
How did he know that.
THEN, Mike put: Anything you want to tell us?
Peter: I m right behind you.

Then, my other brother, Jimmy, came upstairs.
We asked: What tattoo does my brother have on his stomach?
Peter: Dimesak
(That s what it says).
Jimmy then pointed at a place on this big world map we have and told Mike to ask Peter where he pointed.
Mike asked and Peter said: I don t know.
Then Jimmy said: Oh, it s Chicago.
Sooo. Mike typed: What city did Jimmy point at?
Peter: Chicago.

It does work.
It s very, very hard to believe unless you try it and believe.
And Peter doesn t answer unless you believe.
He only answered to my brothers.
When I asked him questions, he wouldn t give me a legit answer.
Then, Mike asked why Peter didn t like me.
Peter: I m very sexist.

It sounds crazy, and I can understand skeptics.
But, try it if you dare.
It s scary as hell.

Annnd. it didn t work for them until Shade s mom came home.
And my mom was outside and it didn t work.
When she came in, it started again.

So, that s my very long story.
Ask me more if you want to know I guess.

# How to answer 10 tough interview questions

• Story Highlights
• Tell me about yourself is the perfect moment to toot your own horn
• Don’t badmouth a boss or give a laundry list of reasons for leaving your last job
• Let employer know you’re stable and you want to be with company long term
• Next Article in Living

By Rachel Zupek
CareerBuilder.com writer

Editor’s note: CNN.com has a business partnership with CareerBuilder.com, which serves as the exclusive provider of job listings and services to CNN.com.

Key to answering “weaknesses” question is not to respond literally. Identify areas where you can improve.

There’s no worse feeling than when you’re in an interview and the interviewer asks you a question to which you don’t know the answer.

The best way to handle this dreaded debacle is to go into the interview prepared. Familiarize yourself with a few common difficult questions and arm yourself with answers prepared ahead of time.

Check out these tough interview questions and some suggested responses in order to avoid an interview disaster:

Tough question No. 1: Tell me about yourself.

This is usually the opening question in an interview and it’s the perfect moment for you to toot your own horn — not to tell your life history. Your answers should be a quick rundown of your qualifications and experience. Talk about your education, work history, recent career experience and future goals.

Suggested answer: I graduated from University X and since then, I have been working in public relations with an agency where I have generated millions of PR hits for my clients. While I’ve enjoyed working on the agency side, I’m looking to expand my horizons and start doing PR for corporate companies such as this one.

#### Don’t Miss

Tough question No. 2: Why did you leave your last job?

This is your chance to talk about your experience and your career goals, not to badmouth a former boss or give a laundry list of reasons for your exit. Instead, focus on what you learned in your previous position and how you are ready to use those skills in a new position.

Suggested answer: The company just wasn’t a good fit for my creativity, but I learned that organizations have distinct personalities just like people do. Now I know where I’ll be a better fit.

Tough question No. 3: Where do you see yourself in five years?

Let the employer know that you’re stable and you want to be with this company for the long haul. Keep your aspirations to take over the firm with which you are interviewing, own your own company, retire at 40 or be married with five children to yourself.

Suggested answer: I want to secure a civil engineering position with a national firm that concentrates on retail development. Ideally, I would like to work for a young company, such as this one, so I can get in on the ground floor and take advantage of all the opportunities a growing firm has to offer.

Tough question No. 4: What are your weaknesses?

The key to answering this age-old question is not to respond literally. Your future employer most likely won’t care if your weak spot is that you can’t cook, nor do they want to hear the generic responses, like you’re too detail oriented or work too hard.

Respond to this query by identifying areas in your work where you can improve and figure out how they can be assets to a future employer. If you didn’t have the opportunity to develop certain skills at your previous job, explain how eager you are to gain that skill in a new position.

Suggested answer: In my last position, I wasn’t able to develop my public-speaking skills. I’d really like to be able to work in a place that will help me get better at giving presentations and talking in front of others.

Tough question No. 5: Why were you laid off?

This question will become more common as the economy continues to slow down. It’s a tough question, however, especially because many workers aren’t told exactly why they were laid off. The best way to tackle this question is to answer as honestly as possible.

Suggested answer: As I’m sure you’re aware, the economy is tough right now and my company felt the effects of it. I was part of a large staff reduction and that’s really all I know. I am confident, however, that it had nothing to do with my job performance, as exemplified by my accomplishments. For example.

Tough question No. 6: Tell me about the worst boss you ever had.

Never, ever talk badly about your past bosses. A potential boss will anticipate that you’ll talk about him or her in the same manner somewhere down the line.

Suggested answer: While none of my past bosses were awful, there are some who taught me more than others did. I’ve definitely learned what types of management styles I work with the best.

Tough question No. 7: How would others describe you?

You should always be asking for feedback from your colleagues and supervisors in order to gauge your performance; this way, you can honestly answer the question based on their comments. Keep track of the feedback to be able to give to an employer, if asked. Doing so will also help you identify strengths and weaknesses.

Suggested answer: My former colleagues have said that I’m easy to do business with and that I always hit the ground running with new projects. I have more specific feedback with me, if you’d like to take a look at it.

Tough question No. 8: What can you offer me that another person can’t?

This is when you talk about your record of getting things done. Go into specifics from your r sum and portfolio; show an employer your value and how you’d be an asset.

Suggested answer: I’m the best person for the job. I know there are other candidates who could fill this position, but my passion for excellence sets me apart from the pack. I am committed to always producing the best results. For example.

Tough question No. 9: If you could choose any company to work for, where would you go?

Never say that you would choose any company other than the one where you are interviewing. Talk about the job and the company for which you are being interviewed.

Suggested answer: I wouldn’t have applied for this position if I didn’t sincerely want to work with your organization. Continue with specific examples of why you respect the company with which you are interviewing and why you’ll be a good fit.

Tough question No. 10: Would you be willing to take a salary cut?

Salary is a delicate topic. In today’s tough economy though, how much a company can afford to pay you might be the deal breaker in whether or not you are offered a position.

Suggested answer: I’m making \$X now. I understand that the salary range for this position is \$XX – \$XX. Like most people, I would like to improve on my salary, but I’m more interested in the job itself than the money. I would be open to negotiating a lower starting salary but would hope that we can revisit the subject in a few months after I’ve proved myself to you.

1. 10 miles each according to Pythagoras Theorem.

2. Each Cow has 2 eyes and 4 legs and each bird has 2 eyes and 2 legs. Lets call each eye as x and each leg as y. Also each bird is n and each cow is m so:

n(2x+2y) + m(2x + 4y) = 172x + 344y
2x (n+m) + 2y(n+2m) = 172x + 344y
(n+m) = 86 and (n+2m) = 172
n = 86 – m
86 – m + 2m = 172 or m = 86
This implies n = 0.

So, the owner has 0 birds and 86 cows.

6. You can assume that when the fly lands on cyclist 1 they are 50 miles apart. The fly has to travel 50 + x miles at 16 miles/hour. Here x is the additional distance at 10 miles/hour. So the problem is now simplified as

y = 50 + x (distance)
(50 + x)/16 = x/10 (time)
500 + 10x = 16x
6x = 500
x = 250/3 = 83.33
y = 133.33

8. When they meet they are both at the same distance away from London.

The third tap 1/96. And the fourth tap fills 1/6 of the pool in one hour. We need to add all those fractions together:

1/48 + 1/72 + 1/96 + 1/6 = 61/288

So, in one hour the pool will be 61/288 full and it will be completely full in 288/61 hours = 4 hours 43 minutes and 17 seconds.

11. Tommy was the thief. He was not telling the truth. He stole it.

12. If the guy was from the west, he should answer the truth: I am from the west. If the guy was from the east, he also should tell a lie: I am from the west. The answer will always be: ‘I am from the west’. So we know the tour guide was telling the truth.

13. If the horse is brown. then every one is right. This is not the answer. If the horse is black, then every one is wrong. This is not the answer either. Therefore, the horse is gray. To verify the answer, Allan was right, Brian was right, but Charlie was wrong.

The way to solve this is, first all, put down two 4s and reserve 4 spaces between these two 4s. Then you determonw the positions for two 3s. Since you can not put both 3s between 4s, one 3 must be outside of two 4s. After that you just need to try a few cases to find out he answer.

16. (a) 8 Minutes because each monkey takes 8 minutes to eat a banana. (b) 8 Monkeys are required to eat 48 bananas in 48 minutes. Each money will eat 6 bananas.
